For anyone who doesn't know the "Nuzlocke challenge" is a set of rules you enforce upon yourself during a playthrough of a Pokémon game. They are intended to increase th enjoyement of a usually repetitive Pokémon game and increasing interaction with usually not used Pokémon
The basic rules are: -Any Pokémon that faints is considered dead, and must be released. -The player may only catch the first Pokémon encountered in each area, and none else. If the first Pokémon encountered faints or flees, there are no second chances. -While not exactly a definite rule, the general consensus is that players must also nickname all of their Pokémon, for the sake of forming stronger emotional bonds.
Other common rules are: -Going to options and making the battle style "set", leaving you unable to switch out -Banning the use of potions and healing items, relying only on Pokémon Centers for healing
I have just started my Nuzlocke chalenge on Soul Silver and I am really enjoying the challenge of it. I was just wondering if anyone has played, is playing or is going to play the Nuzlocke challenge. What do you think of the challenge and how do you think it adds to the game also do you have any stories about the Nuzlocke challenge?
I can't say that I've ever heard of this challenge before, but I tend to stay off Pokemon fan sites and places like that. Plus the newest Pokemon game I even played was Fire Red & Leaf Green. I'm going to start this with Pokemon Yellow, hopefully It'll take some practice and a lot of time to complete this one, last time I breezed through it in a day.
I only heard of it after seeing a post on 9gag. I then looked for further information on it and decided to start the challenge. Unfortunately I can't comment on how it has been because I have only been able to play about 20 minutes due to my parental arrangements but I assume it's going to be hard!
This is the first time I've heard of this and as a huge fan of the Pokemon games I think I will give this a go. I'll try to start tomorrow (Australia time) on Black but I'll probably have a hard time fitting it in with school and other things. I'll keep you guys up to date if you care.
I like those rules. It would be very intriguing to try. My only issue is, what if your starter pokemon feints, now you have to let them go lol. And for him, there's no way to catch it again. Or any Legendaries too. I mean, it doesn't happen often that they feint, but it's possible.
I have set up a group for people to post their tales of the Nuzlocke challenge. The set up is that the admins of the group can post their tales in the group news. Anyone else will have to post their tales in the comments but after a while of good story telling someone can be accepted as an admin. Does everyone think this is okay? Also get in touch if you would like become an admin (first come first serve)!
Oh man, I just finished one of these, and they can get pretty emotionally charged. Still, it's quite the experience and you may find it the best way to play pokémon afterwards.
Rest in Peace: Spitfire the Pidgeot (Lv. 3-Lv. 54)
I tried this in LeafGreen a while ago, I died early on but it was a ton of fun.
For those who are worried about losing their starters/legendaries, the way a lot of people do it is just name a box in the PC "Heaven" or something and stick your dead Pokemon in there.
I've heard of the Rattata challenge (All Rattata's all the time in your party) but this sounds too complex and difficult for me. I would cheat right off the bat. Or rather...right off the zubat....hohohohohohohoho
