I recently disabled my Facebook account. I disabled it because I was sick of people being fake and pretentious. I was wondering if any of you have disabled Facebook or just don't use it regularly because of the way people are acting on Facebook?
I am constantly removing people, but I just don't talk to fake people as it is, so I don't really have that prob, not to mention I only use it to chat with people.
I don't really use Facebook anymore, as you said it's just a load of people creating an illusion, I also remove people regularly, I really don't want to know that you're going to eat pancakes or that you failed at making a cake. This place is also much more fun.
I find myself rolling my eyes as soon as I hop on Facebook, and it's getting quite annoying. I'll be removing friends at the very least, if I don't delete it.
I deleted myself from it back in October. Returned to the caveman way of life of using email, phone calls and text messages to keep in touch with people.
I feel like I've never been more productive in a long time, I've submitted more scripts and done more revisions in the past 6 months than I have done in the previous 2 years combined!
The only downsides I find are when people find out I don't have a facebook they give me the same look I give to people I meet who don't own a TV added to the fact that no-one will ever remember your birthday.
I feel like facebook can reflect whatever groups of people you choose.
I use it to keep in touch with friends who are out of city, state, country, and to discuss various matters with my closer friends.
Though I have over a thousand "friends" on facebook, I only have ~200 that I allow to show up on my newsfeed. I clean up my friends list by checking the birthdays every day and removing people I no longer wish to interact with.
Facebook is just a reflection of the internet at large: There are some smart people, there are some trolls and there are a whole bunch of idiots.
I've been very tempted to disable my account. I scroll through my news feed and just laugh at the patheticness and stupidity of people. I find Twitter much more civilized.
I just have it to keep in touch with some friends. I usually just delete annoying people or block the stupid images they share from those dumb "Like this image" pages.
I mostly use it for family, posting pictures of the kiddo and stuff. Other than family and close friends, most of my friends are people from high school that have added everyone they knew from high school. I need to do a friend purge soon.
Deleting your Facebook seems a bit counter-productive with people being stupid. It's not Facebook that does it - it's the people using it. Disabling your account just leaves a void that could've been filled stopping people from acting like fucking assholes but now it's kinda just not doing anything. I keep my Facebook, and try to change people in my only subtle ways. I couldn't do that without Facebook.
I usually need to block people who post the most usless things on the feed that just waste my time. Especially the guys or girls who are obsessed with a specific person or thing and constantly post about it. Blocking people seems like the way to go.
I don't really have a problem with people on my facebook wall at all. There are people who annoy the crap out of me on there, but I will just delete them or block their posts so it doesn't come up on there anymore. Then again I only have around 180 friends on facebook, so maybe I have just managed to trim these "fake" people off of there, or maybe I just naturally avoid becoming friends with them in the first place
I have two accounts - One with 600 friends, the other with 60. I use the one with 60 for normal stuff, and the one with 600 if I want to laugh at someone's stupidity.
I still use mine. I never add people unless I either know them personally or know them well through another medium, like a forum (usually a car forum). I don't add people at random or just because they know another friend.
I still use mine, but I rarely really post anything. I just browse the feed once or twice a day to keep up with all my old high school friends who all went to different colleges. Though I am planning on doing a purge of my friends list this weekend probably… But like ChevyCobb, I only add people I know, so I don't really have any problem with them acting stupid or pretentious. The moment someone starts acting that way, or if they post like it's Twitter, then they are blocked/deleted.

I got sick of everyone crying about little things. Meh, my foot hurts. I have a headache. OMG, shut up.
I don't care for Facebook and have deactivated my account a few times before, but something always draws me back. I don't spend as much time on it as I did before, so that's a plus.
Mine's gathering dust. I don't really need it, since my close friends are really the only people I care to keep up with. They know my phone numbers, they know where I live-- no point in checking updates online when I'm already updated. ^__^ Really, the only reason I still have my facebook is because I use it to look at birthdays. >.>
the only reason I use facebook is to ask things for school I think its stupid to have conversations online when you can have them in real life. I only talk with my friens abroad online.
I'm keeping mine, because I have friends that I'm ACTUALLY friends with so they don't act fake and dumb. I use it to stay connected with long distance friends.
i use it now for people i only know or knew personally.. i've gotten rid of the application friends as most were preachy posters.. ugh.. when its just those you know its a hell of a lot more interesting and interactive in a non trolling postive way.
I have a Facebook, but rarely use it. Facebook has turned into a place for people to openly portray their drama as well as showing their inner "child" (in a bad way.). If it's not about someone getting their heart broken, it's someone trying to ruin someone else's life.

I'm starting to think that Facebook is making people lazy in terms of remembering birthdays and making an effort for the friend who's birthday it is. All you seem to need to do nowadays is post a comment on their wall saying 'happy birthday' and thats it... seems a bit lame to me and yet I do it too :(
