So yesterday I just bought all 3 Mass Effects. I have never played them but I have always heard great things about them. Listening to the RT Podcast also made me want to play them and check it out. I also heard that Mass Effect 3 was great but I need to play the 1st two games to understand the story. So I am now embarking on a marathon to play through all of them. I started on 1 today.
My favorite series! They are all pretty fun to play. The first one's combat is a little wonky, but its story telling is superb. Also some of the achievements in mass 1 can be a pain to get if you care about those.
Main advice for later games is to branch off from soldier class and play with the tech and biotic sorcery a bit, makes it more varied to play.
My only advice is don't rush through the the games, especially the second one. I have seen quite a few people who decide not to do the missions their squad mates give them in Mass Effect 2, just so they can finish the game and it comes back to haunt them at the end of the game.
I'd say take your time as well, but also don't use any guides for your first playthrough; just do what feels right. Part of what makes ME a great franchise is seeing the "reapercussions' of you actions in the next game. Even if you make mistakes just keep going on, so in the next playthrough its much more enjoyable when you make the right decision. Also you can come to the ME3 thread and talk with us there.
This is actually probably the best thing to do. Seeing some of the results from what you did in the previous game are really cool, because it makes the story seem that much more your own. So just do what feel natural to yourself. (or to the character your rolepaying as)
Thanks everyone for the advice. I will keep you updated on my progress..
Well I played about 5 hours yesterday, Then some friends of mine called me up and I went to his house and drank with them. I am lvl 11 I believe, and the latest achievement I did was Found Liara in Artemis Tau Cluster. Not that far, I know, but the game does have my attention at this moment
All of them are good, but one has THE shittiest save system of any game I have ever played, save it often, and you'll have no trouble. They are good games, a nice blend of FPS and RPG, although I found as you progress it focused a little more on the FPS side, but that's props just because of the way I was playing.
