I have a wired xbox 360 controller and yes I do have the driver already for the controller my question is HOW DO I GET THIS TO WORK. What program do I need and then how to use the program I have downloaded ControllerMate so if someone could tell me how to do this on ControllerMate that would be great.

If it's the same as pc which it very possibly isn't, you just plug it in. It should light up and when you play a game compatible with the controller it should just work.

From the title, it seemed like you were giving a tutorial.

Maybe next time use a "How do I" or add a question mark at the end.

When I tried to play skyrim on it I plugged it in and the driver recognized it then I started up skyrim and it only let me play with the mouse/keypad I even checked the 360 controller option in the game and nothing happened

Try this for PC:
www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-us/p/xbox-360-con...
On the Support tab, select your version of Windows and download the Xbox 360 Accessories Software.

When it's installed correctly, pressing the Home/Guide button on the controller pulls up a little battery meter in the middle of the screen (looks like a 360 achievement notification). Games that support the controller will detect it automatically.

Also if you're using a wireless controller with the USB charging cable, it will not work. The cable only carries power, but not data. You need either a standard wired controller or the wireless receiver:
www.microsoft.com/games/en-US/Hardware/Controll...

I don't know about Mac, I doubt it's officially supported.
