New Android AppHey guys and gals,

I've just released a new Rooster Teeth android app.

I know there are a couple of these our there already and they are pretty good. But they haven't been updated recently and with the new website around the corner, I'm sure an up to date app will be nice.

So I am releasing this when it isn't full done because I want to take a queue for the game industry, help me out as it is being developed and there will be a better end result. I will try to make quick updates and add new functionality all the time.

What is it this app?
Right now I have news pages for both Rooster Teeth and Achievement Hunter.

Coming up:
I will be working on getting videos from the site (not youtube)

Check it out and give me some feedback. There are a couple bugs that I am trying to work out.

The link is here (It just got uploaded so if the link doesn't work yet check back in a bit)

Thanks all

I got it :P. Very simple, can't wait till I can actually watch videos though. (Also, you should make it so that it changes the top-left icon to whatever channel you're on I.E. make it the AH emblem when you are on the AH feed). Cheers, and good luck to you on your future programming endeavors.

Updated the app.

Videos can now be opened from news posts with attached videos.

Made image loading faster, working on making general loading faster.

Fixed a bug where the refresh button wouldn't work properly.

A couple minor UI tweaks.

In reply to Zarash, #1: I know this would be hard but you souls make it so I could go on the forums and talk like this in the app

You should make it open source. I'm a career mobile application developer, and I'd love to contribute.

I'll think about it. I would need to clean it up a lot and add some comments.

By the way, the website changed recently, I don't know when, but the app was broken for a bit. This has been fixed as of last night.

If anyone finds any bugs, feel free to let me know.

Are you scraping, or is there an API somewhere?

I'm scraping, it's all well formatted except for one type of post that is a bit annoying.

Hey all,

I would like to thank everyone, I have just passed 500 installs of the app.

I'm going to be working on it over the next couple of weeks to make it a bit better, possibly adding TheKnow.

I'm here asking for any suggestions on how to make it better. I have gotten some suggestions to make videos embedded, how do you guys feel about that? Personally I think that using the youtube app is fine.

Thank you again,

Very nice. RESTful JSON API. Very useful for mobile applications.

Maybe I just missed it, but where/how to I get an API key?

You need to register on the register link I posted. There you'll get your key!

I'll check it out, are there APIs for the RT or TheKnow sites?

They aren't there yet, I was thinking about doing those as well, but I'm a bit busy atm.
They are kinda on my schedule though.

Hey guys,

I just updated the app, it now has The Know as well.
Check it out and as always let me know what you think.

So by popular request the app now supports embedded video. I'll be looking into adding podcasts, as well as fixing a couple bugs in the coming weeks.

Also if you get the chance, please upvote my post on reddit to get more users.

For a couple months now I've been thinking on building an app as well, but the amount of apps already available put me off a bit. And now an official app is available, so it even makes me think it's not as good of an idea as it was before, but despite that, I'm whiling to help with anything. I don't have a lot of experience, but I'm currently studying CS, so I might be able to do some work. One feature that I always thought a RT app should have is a download button for video or audio versions of the content, more specifically the podcasts. During commute it would be easier to have the podcasts downloaded to the phone instead of having to use a data connection (expensive were I live). I haven't had the opportunity to test the app, but I'll give it a go for sure ;)

That is most definitely the next feature that I would be adding. But I haven't been working on the app as much since the official app came out. Most people are moving to it, even though this app has more features.

Exactly, that was what made me think it wouldn't be a good idea to start a new app right now, but if your app has more feature and is more advanced than the official one, it might get Adam's attention :p
