I'm a Software Tester for a wholly-owned subsidiary of The Allstate Group.

I don't really mind the job (company T1 line + not much work = t3h w1n), but I'd rather be doing something else.

I'm considering polishing up my html, css, php and sql "skills", learning asp and starting a web design company. Not likely to happen anytime soon, though.

I work for the www.indiana.edu Indiana University Radio/Television department. I do computer and digital broadcasting support. It is a good job – I get paid well, I get 36 paid vacation days a year and there isn’t too much stress. I also have a smoking fast internet connection (OC-48 to a backbone provider) and plenty of time to post on the RT forums.

I do Software and Network support for what shall remain a unamed Copier Manufactuer. This means I spend most of my days when I am in the office, Browsing forums, Playing Warcraft 3 and or Diablo 2 and of course calling people who leave messages on the help desk. I have my own office, which rules. And somedays, like yesterday, I work from the home office (even though the real office is only 7 miles away), that way I can do the same thing all day, the only difference is I can do it in my boxers, and drink Rum and Coke for the afternoon.. they can't smell alcohol over the phone!

My dream job would be the same as my real job, just that I would get paid a lot more....

Dammit!

Meaning what? You're either starting your first or second year? I'm kind of confused on how you can confuse what year you're in... unless your school doesn't have a set class schedule like Vanderbilt.

We have set class schedules, but we don't have to take the bar RIGHT when we graduate. I can take the bar whenever I want... I can even take it now, but it would pwn me. The year difference is due to whether I want to take a year off to travel or whichever.

thanks! It wasn't always this way.... It's all about getting transfered to the field office where you are your own boss, and your real boss only calls you once a month. It just so happens I got the transfer , and the field office is in San Diego.... NICE!

I pretty much have found my dream job. I am head of the support department (got promoted after only 3 months) in a small company which does mobile markteting stuff and software development. Besides the technical support stuff I develop software and administer about 60 Windows and UNIX servers together with the other guys in my department (6, including me).

What small company has 60 windows and unix servers on their network...? that sounds fairly big to me.

carmunity.com has...

Most of them are used for mobile applications, like text messaging, multimedia messaging, mobile video streaming and so on.

I work for a land surveyor, pretty decent job considering I'm 16. Either sitting around pretending to do work at the office, lying to people on the phones('Oh, the boss isn't in the right now.' 'No, I don't know his cell phone number.', etc), or going out in the field and holding a rod, spraying things with spray paint, or writing shit in a notebook. My boss also provides free snacks, breakfast, and lunch. Pretty good deal. Only downside would be the people that sneak up on you at jobs and start asking what in the hell you're doing.

That makes more sense.. I was thinking... gee 60 servers.. they must support about 2000 clients... but if they are mostly for web services, that works.. Do you have to do any desktop support? i know a company who is fairly small... about 20-25 clients, and 15 servers, but like your company, only 2 servers are for internal use, the others are for web services for customers.

We only have one Windows 2003 Server which is our domain controller plus we have like 30 clients running Windows XP. The rest is mostly for running various mobile services. We currently serve over 4 million text messages per month using our servers and we have recently developed a Java-application for mobile phones that allows video streaming on most modern cell phones. The company really is pretty small, we have about 25 people working here.

i'm an Air Force cop, working on a primarily law enforcement base (as opposed to nukes, etc). i run a mids (6pm-6am) flight of 35 ppl. i'm ultimately responsible for maintaining discipline and security within the installation. we have exclusive jurisdiction (thank God), whick means i have full authority over civilians as well as military (YAY!!)

it's my dream job (ther than my 100 acre farm for retirement). it's military and cop mixed together.

In reply to dragonfyre, #28:
Navy food sucks! OMG Air Force chow, now that's something to look forward to.

Ask any Air Force mechanic which food is better, Air Farce or Navy
They would all say Mc Donalds! It was across the street from the dorms hehe
in my experiences, DoN has always had the best food. Army is average (but you can't beat their chili-mac), AF is a little above Army.

places i've been, in no particular order for reference:
Ft Jackson, Ft Pickett, Ft Belvoir, Ft A.P. Hill, Ft Bliss, Grand Forks AFB, Randolph AFB, Lackland AFB, Ali Al Salem AB, Holloman AFB, Sierra Army Depot, Norfolk NS, Port some-crap-i-forgot Kuwait (Navy), Hickam AFB, Ft Lewis, Camp Arifjan, Camp Doha, Djibouti (Marines), Diego Garcia
