few years ago now we had a group of 20-25 regulars playing every other weekend, a shit load of fun (never got the whole paintball thing the guns just dont look real). But then our govt. (NZ) went and classed them as a fully automatic firearm, i mean WTF, and so alot of the group didnt want the cops calling so we stopped.(because you had to change them so they couldnt go full auto, and i mean whats the point if you cant blaze every now and then).
Im really glad to see this thread. Im really big on airsoft. Its 100 times better than painball for many reasons. Anyways, i have some advise for some of you. You out there having trouble finding people and places to play. Theres one things i can say. DONT GIVE UP. The best thing to do is to get your friends into it. That will get you going on the sport. Just bug the crap out of em if the ydont believe how bad ass the sport is. Invite people to play with you and let them see how great a feeling it is to have 100's of rounds flying by you just to lite the f'ers up. As for finding playing grounds its hard to say. Having to go to paintball facilities is pretty lame. Not made for the airsoft style of play. Finding someplace out in the middle of nowhere with and tone of different types of cover(natural of course). Ya if you find a place respect it. If you start building bunkers or atleast too many you might get kick off it if you found out and someone doesnt apreciate it. Also respect the sport. Keep it honest and safe. Law inforcment isnt going to bother you if you if they know your good poeple and not gonna do someting wrong. Dont take your guns in public either, or shoot em at cars or normal people. Trust me on this one. its not fun to look down the barrel of a real m4. A lot of cops actually like airsoft, used correctly. Some pd even use it for training. I play with cops sometimes. If you see someone not using airsoft guns right, confront them, doesnt matter who the are. If you can find honest people to play with, it will really help the sport grow where your at. Also do some research into peolple/companies that do custom work. They are great sources of information on play. I play with the guys from Q project, and we have some of the bet games in the world. If you have any questions post em, or email me: jfredric@bluebottle.com
sorry to hear about the govt regulations. That is a problem is some places. Hope you guys can get alot of voices to fight it. That reminds me. If legislation in you state/country is trying to take your airsoft away, speak up. There are actually some some help on this issue. Dont remember what the site was, sorry.
And I am doing just that, trying harder than anything to get the sport more mainstream. Like you said about the paintball fields, I know what you mean, Airsoft is made for tactical simulation, whereas paintball is mostly for just shooting and shooting as fast as you can. I forgot where I had read this, but its true, the guys who spend over a thousand dollars on their markers usually rule the field, but in airsoft, you could spend $1500 on all of your gear, but stil get hit by a beginer with a stock AEG. Like I tell some guys who have flatline barrels on their markers, Hopup is exactly the same, and it comes with a stock aeg, along with full auto capeabilities, but when it comes to a paintball marker, you would have to spend another $50-$200 just for mods to get it to fire full auto, not to mention the expensive motorized hoppers, just so you wont chop your paint as its cycling through (With the exception of the tippmann A5, but even at the price of an AEG, it still only fires semi auto out of the box). Paintball is fine and dandy, even fun at times, if you can afford to pay $500+ for a good marker. I'll just stick with Airsoft, it costs way less, and doesn't look like a glorified watergun.
Airsoft is great. I want to get a airsoft gun someday but Im to cheap. I like the G-36. But a M4-A1 is probably the best. They are a good price, very modafiable, perform well and they are cool.
there are alot of things to consider when buying an aeg. Its important that you get the right gun for you.
If you looking for a gun that you most like the looks of and are willing to sacrifice a little performance if you will. then the gun you pick wont matter. Pick the one that you like the best. Some people do that, and thats fine. If you are looking for a gun that can perform, and is reliable, your choices are a little more narrow. First thing to consider is what type of senerios you will be in. Indoor/CQB vs outdoor and roomy. If you want a good CQB weapon you will want something shorter, and i would recomend a p90, m733 or even a spetz. M4 is about the biggest you could go, but wouldnt recomend it. For outdoor i would only use and m4 series or an ak. The ak will give you a little better performance out of the box and can be upgraded higher than anything else( except for m4, about the same). The ak is the most reliable gun out there too. The m4 on the other hand is not quite as good as the ak but still second best and not far behind. What makes the m4 a better buy for most is the fact that the m4 is more versitile (attachments, etc) than the ak. I'd make my decision on that criteria. The variations on the m4 are important to consider also. the sr16 is a awsome gun. If your not in love with the retractable m4 stock(like me!!!) then i would recomend the sr16. The full stock makes room for those large batteries, that would be external on an m4. If you can afford it a ris is the best option money can buy.
My friends and I are huge into airsoft...it originally just started out as me and a few friends, but then i got a whole bunch of them into it. We all started out by playing with cheap pistols...but a few of us have expanded a bit. My one friend has an MP5, another friend has a sniper rifle...and I bought myself an M4. We don't play with gas or electric guns though....we all use single-shot spring loaded guns. I have two broken pistols, a Firepower Raider and a Sig Sauer P230; clip sizes 15 and 20 respectively. I don't need em anyway...my M4 is perfect....great distance (i can get exact later) and is insanely accurate.
The place where me and my friends play is perfect...it's public land that houses around had used to dump so trash and burn it a while back. So you kind find tires and pieces of wood everywhere whcih we used to make small bases and bunkers. The area we play in is huge though...it has everything too (minus caves which somebody mentioned earlier). But we have hills, open valleys, different forrests, small rivers, tall grass. Words don't do the place justice...just kno that it's beyond perfect to play in. It allows for so much strategy and flanking oppurtunities (if done right and smartly). In fact, if it wasn't for the area we play in, me and so many of my friends probably wouldn't be playing at all.
Going away to college though kind of hurt my regular play...it's hard to set up a game with everyone spread across the state. However, a few guys at college started playing in the hallways (lol) so i might just have to bring my M4 up there and show them a thing or two ;)
There was a guy who came down for a game with us who had a Steyr AUG. One of the most comfortable weapons I have ever held, well, next to my P90! He also had an SV Infinity 5 inch by WA. God, that was one of the nicest pistols I had ever seen.
Pretty nice. We started out with springers, then I bought the P90 last year around this time, which perpetuated the start of our team. Damn, My P90 is almost a year old!
Probably the fact, that with an AEG, you can fire full auto, and you can upgrade it, depending on the model, to fire an excess of 500 FPS. Now, on gas pistols. The most apealing thing about them, is that whenever you pull the trigger, it fires, and it has a bit of recoil, although nowhere near the force of its real steel counterpart, but enough to bring a smile to anybodies face! Fire a KSC Glock 18C, and you will know exactly what I'm talking about.
i have an infinity 5in svf and a glock 18c. glock fires faster but my svf NEVER jams (wa makes such great pistols). Same cant be said for my glock. but both are great to just let a clip go.

ya ive heard that the steyr is the most solid feeling gun out there. I wish someone i knew had one...EVERYONE USES M4'S AND AK'S but can you blame em
Heh, nobody we play with regularily has either the M4, or any form of the AK, everyone has a completely different gun, so you see a nice variety in a skirmish.
But somebody said in this thread that airsoft is better than paintball because in paintball it's just rapid shot, trying to hit something. So...if you have an aeg..then how is that different?
I'm not saying that electirc sucks...i'm just trying to get some perspective
When it comes to airsoft, it is more specifically made for tactical simulation. Being that it is a replica of an actual firearm makes it more suited for that sort of thing, thats why some police departments use them to train instead of paintball markers
Yes....but wouldn't a single shot take more skill than an automatic? In my opinion, it takes more skill to get that kill with one well placed shot, than just setting your gun to auto and just spraying bullets at your target. Because most of the time when I play, if you're sneaking up on somebody, you better make damn sure that your one shot hits them, because you're not gonna be able to get off another one before they start shooting at you. I mean, granted, it doesn't take too long to cock a gun, but I still think the single shot adds another level of strategy to the game.
The one thing, i think, that makes airsoft worse than paintball is that airsoft works on the honor system. However, i'll always choose airsoft over paintball.
There are events where only springers are used. We do that sometimes around here, and it does take a little bit more skill, but average springers have crap range compared to an AEG, although I would think the HK 33 by KSC would still have good range. Very clever! When it runs out of battery power, you can use it like a springer.
And the honor system? hard to reply on that. I have never played with a person who has cheated in a game, or is not trustworthy. I don't think very many people like that play airsoft.
You paying too much attention to the full auto option. The way good players play is without it for the most part. 1 to 3 round burst too. Full auto isnt a way to hit someone like in paintball. Its a way to keep someones head down. so you buddy can move up on him and get a clean shot on him. Its all about tactics in airsoft.
when its windy...you need to let more than one round go if you expect to hit anything also.
