Unpopular Gender Roles RantSo now I'm gonna post something which may be an unpopular opinion in these times of gender in games because... well it seems people haven't solved/gotten over it yet. Well heres how I've pretty much read the situation: female gamers are offended by objectificatio

The root of this problem as I see it is that most of the people who make games are men (or at least male...) and as such they tend to make games which will appeal to men. This doesn't just mean overly-sexualized female characters in games used as sex-objects, it also means that there aren't many good female characters because the men making the games haven't a damn clue about women think, or even what they're really like beyond the limited interactions they've had with them.
So while I agree with the general opinion that the industry as a whole needs to stop falling into the old habits of using unrealistic-one-dimensional-sex-object female characters in games I also think that a big part of that solution might be getting more women into the game studios, especially the writing part. Not only will this lead to better female characters in games but even better this will lead to more diverse stories, and game mechanics. As always thanks to whoever indulged my incoherent thoughts and I hope to get any comments you might have.
