"X-Men: First Class" ReviewI'm going to try something new on the profile and start reviewing films, video games, and whatever else I can find something to say about. I thought that I should kick things off with a review of X-Men: First Class. Enjoy...

Any spoilers will be covered by the spoiler tag.

I'm not hugely into the X-Men comics or characters, but I felt the film was handled pretty well. It's definitely better than X-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men Origins: Wolverine. This is the first X-Men film that wasn't all about Wolverine, and as someone who isn't a fan of that character or Hugh Jackman, this film automatically gets a few points in my book. (Although, he has a 30 second cameo in which I actually bought Jackman as that character for the first time in this franchise. Imagine that...)

The period worked for the film and I dug the costumes. Little disappointed that they didn't have the actual first class of the X-Men, but oh well. Looking at the team initially, it looked like Fox might have put the names of all the mutants they haven't used yet into a hat and just picked them randomly. However, by the end of the film, I grew accustomed to that X-Men team. The Hellfire Club was an alright adversary in this first film and acted as a good catalyst for the formation of the first X-Men team. Hope the next villain in the inevitable sequel is more of a threat to the team itself (fingers crossed for Mr. Sinister).

The Fassbender and McAvoy scenes are the highlights of the film, though I have to say that McAvoy's accent was pretty inconsistent. Kevin Bacon is great actor and plays the villain well, but the decision to make him the Nazi that tortured Erik while he was in the camp kinda takes away Magneto's anger towards the humans. Bugs me a little, but I can live with it.

Oh, and January Jones was smokin' hot. Just had to say that.

I don't like to give ratings to films, so I'll just say you should see it. Don't let the last two X-Men films dissuade you from seeing a decent summer blockbuster. I don't agree with other reviewers saying that this film gives The Dark Knight a run for its money, but compared to Thor, I like both about the same. It's been a good summer so far for superhero films and I hope that trend continues with Green Lantern and Captain America: The First Avenger.

I'll be back in two weeks with a review of Super 8, so until next time, don't go changin'.
