I-5 bridge collapseThis bonkers. If you didn't know the I-5 is the main highway for the entire west coast (and apparently is the only interstate highway to reach both Canada and Mexico). This is gonna create a huge headache traffic-wise.
Apparently they're putting blame on an oversize load that struck some of the overhead beams on the bridge. I'm not a bridge expert, but I kinda feel like they're trying to use that as a scapegoat for a shitty bridge if (what looks like) a minor strike can cause the whole section to collapse.

OH even better, found an article that says "The bridge, built in 1955, is listed by the National Bridge Inventory as "fracture critical," which means that the entire structure can be brought down if even one major part fails". That is so stupid. How do we allow these kinds of structures to be built in the first place?!
We just drove over that bridge a few days ago and it's horrifying to me that there are such low standards on these kinds of structures so heavily used by the public on a daily basis.
