I dig Heartless Bastards...That's right! But I'm not talking about people...I'm talking about the band. I went to see their live taping at Austin City Limits last night. Very unique blend of blues, rock, and a dash of hillbilly. I liked it! The singers voice is really deep and sometimes almost raspy. They used a violin and banjo in some of their songs. They also brought a guest singer from their side project (Sweet Tea) to sing a song, which was fabulous. Although their musical performance was great, their stage presence was lacking. If you've ever seen the Austin City Limits show on PBS/KLRU, then you know that most of the singers tell how they got into the biz, give background on the songs, and/or multiple other things. She didn't even introduce herself or the other band members. Thank goodness the music was good enough to make up for that, and the constant stops to work on sound issues.
All in all, if you are going ACL (the music festival), you may want to stop by and give them a listen. I think you might like them.
PS - Don't listen to them on youtube. My friend listened to them on youtube before we went and said they didn't sound good. We got there and she changed her mind...said they were awesome. :-)
