My Review on the Wind Waker HD AnnouncementTo me, this doesn't sit well as an announcement. I'll explain why.
Back on the Nintendo 64, Majora's Mask followed up as a direct sequel to Ocarina of Time and as such had to have been put on the same system to tie with gamers who played the previous title.
The problem that Majora's Mask faced was the hardware limitations - as the most complete Zelda experience I've seen to date, to have itself stuck on the same system as it's prequel really limited it as to how much it could have accomplished delivering it's message.

With The Wind Waker for the Gamecube and the ability to play it on the Wii, given it's backwards compatibility, it was faced with being an incomplete game that delivered it's message very well given the graphical style that it was set in. It worked for it then perfectly, so why bring it back now for the Wii U? 'Because of the Gamecube's lackluster install base'? Nonsense. The Wind Waker sold the console to a lot of people and for those who couldn't get the console but could get the game, the already well-established Wii install base was there to pick up for it.
Majora's Mask however has to face the test of time with it's message never having been delivered well enough across to the audience. A lot of us can see it for what it is, but it is much more worthy of the jump to the Wii U. Expecting it to come out on the 3DS is actually a thought that somewhat upsets me - first, we'd have to wait until after the release of at least one new Zelda game for the 3DS, which I highly doubt will be reusing assets given from Ocarina of Time 3D, but to potentially receive a remake of Majora's Mask on the 3DS, once again stuck on the same platform as it's prequel and after having to wait until after a new Zelda 3DS release, it seems most likely that it would suffer from having many reused assets from Ocarina of Time 3D, years later and a new Zelda 3DS game (or more) after it's release.
This is why I am disheartened.
The Wind Waker may be an incomplete experience in need of completion, but who's to say that the missing gaps will be filled in this time?
