FYIApparently this works for all of the US. I know it is rule at the Casino and the rest of Michigan.
Make sure you license is not expired when going out to a bar or anyplace you want alcohol. Naturally some places don't give a shit. But you are supposed to have a VALID license to buy alcohol.
If it's expired, it is no longer VALID.
So, even if you are in the Armed Forces, you can easily be denied if the place doesn't make exceptions. Or that place can lose their liquor license.
This happened last night.
I as usual for youngin's. Asked to see their id's. One of them offered it even though I didn't ask for it. They were all dressed up for an Armed Forces gathering of some kind. She was Navy and there were a few Marines. Dresses or Uniform.
Like I said, she offered me her ID. It expired. My supervisor had to come out and deal with it. We couldn't serve her. She insisted she couldn't get a new one until she went back into the fleet in June. Her state drivers license was expired as well. Armed Forces or not, we did not serve her.
So keep that lesson in mind. Keep whatever form of VALID id you have on you when you go drinking and make sure it's Valid (Especially if your paying with a Credit Card, they're supposed to check your ID for that as well).
So now when the circumstance comes up and I am asked if I want to see someone's ID when they are clearly of legal age. I won't be polite and say "Of Course".
My answer will be "Only if it's valid and not expired. If it's expired, I can't serve you."
