Title (optional)That last journal is really depressing, so here's a better one.
So what's up with everybody? No one talks on here anymore. At least not anyone that I know. I was going through my comments the other day and thought, "Man, this site used to be so much more energetic with people." Maybe I just need to meet more people. It's kinda tough though since everyone kinda has their own groups. I guess that's how the butcher smacks the apricot.
So I've been out of school for two months now. I've also been unemployed for two months now. I've pretty much been sitting at home (back in Va) waiting for the temperature to rise to watch the grass grow... HAHA! Just kidding..... sort of...
Well, I have done a few things. I've read a few books, I finally bought and beat Mass Effect 3 (still not sure why the ending riled up so many people), made this video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=0XvuKOV4-88&list=... , and have gone to the gym every single day for two hours since December 29th. YEAH FITNESS. I've started to eat better, too. It's kind of depressing but I went back and to snack on some stuff that I used to love and it tasted terrible, so that's good I guess.
What else... I do want to get back into sketching, and I have two ideas right now, but otherwise I'm not sure how to get back into it. Ideas, thoughts, comments, jokes, idioms, conundrums, menage a trois? Wait, what?
So anywho, back to reality. Hopefully I hear back about one of these 17 or so jobs I've applied for.

We're In Canada? So back on August 8th I met Luke McKay at RTX. While I was becoming a piece of art we were just shooting the breeze and I mentioned that RTX was my first RT event. I told him I always wanted to attend RvBTO because it seemed so much more personable and fun. He was saying how great it was and that I should try and go since 2012's would be the last. I told him money was tight and I don't think it was going to happen. He said the same thing since he's been kicking off his business.
Well I thought about that a bit and realized that money, while important, isn't something that will limit me from having a good time. So I decided, SCREW IT, I'm not going to have many more chances after school to travel and meet people. So I bought my wristband. I was trying to pinch pennies and saw an advertisement for free boarding on the TO Facebook group by Kyle Tamminen, better known as raz0rblade. Let me tell you, this gentleman is a Saint and a Scholar. Not only did he let me stay with him for the weekend but he made delicious waffles with fruit every morning. Also I was able to meet Lewis and Ray, two pretty cool dudes, who were also staying with Kyle.
After many years of corny jokes and Good Morning Vietnam quotes I finally met the lovely Britte. This girl deserves an award for all the hard work she did while having a baby inside her. I also met and talked to Jack, better known as Jengaship. Awesome guy who's actually heard of the town I come from!
The whole weekend was fun from the start with me flying into Toronto and going straight to the Imperial Pub where I dove into a beer and a game of Texas Hold 'Em. I was amazed at how friendly and accepting everyone was. Texas Hold 'Em, Billiards, SSBB, meeting and chatting with Gavin, seeing Kathleen and Burnie again, Canadian Beer, Jack & Sweet Tea (the bartenders liked that one), everything was awesome. The one thing that was probably the best moment was when Cassandra(also a very awesome person!) got a bunch of us to play Cards Against Humanity. THIS GAME IS F UC KING HILARIOUS. I don't think any of us has laughed quite that hard.
I was sad that the day came for me to leave. I happened upon another TOer on the metro and happened to have the same flight out of Canada as Barbara. So here I am at home wishing it was all still going on.
But overall I had one the best times I can imagine and it wouldn't have happened without Kyle. So this one goes to you, sir. Thank you for your overall kindness, generosity, and ability to deal with a bumpkin from the sticks who had no idea how to navigate a bus or metro route. I've made an amazing friend out of the experience and I can only hope you feel the same way.
So that was my RvBTO. The perfect ending to a great Summer 2012.
TorontoSo day 3 is technically here. Overall, awesome time! I met Kathleen and Gavin last night and have met plenty members on the site. Sir raz0rblade has been the most gracious of hosts, introducing me to people, helping me out with city stuff, and of course, WAFFLES. Delicious, delicious, waffles...
So up early for moar waffles and getting ready for the day!
IAD --> YYZSo I had an awesome time at RTX, I probably couldn't express it enough through the journal and pictures. I was fortunate enough to get a raise at work this year so I've been able to make some extra $$$. This is also going to be my last semester of college this fall and will have to make some big decisions in the next few weeks. Stay tuned.
So since this is going to be the last time for exploration and adventure. I've decided I'll be attending RvBTO this year! I've been trying to get there for as long as I can remember and I'm finally making it a reality. Big shout out to raz0rblade for being kind enough to let me shack up with him through the event, you rock my man!
So watch out Toronto, Canadian hospitality is about to meet Southern hospitality!
RTX 2012 Recap (VERY LONG)Wow, RTX 2012, what can I say? IT WAS F UC KING AWESOME! I really don't know where to begin. The event as a whole was one of the coolest things I've ever been part of. Everyone was so social and nice and that goes for the crew and the fans. Pictures are posted, so check it out!
So Day 1, I took a ride over to the convention center with DoomKvlt and wolfofmibu (who are pretty cool cats) around 7 am and registered for the event. I decided to leave the line for the Exhibition Room to wait for the RT Panel. That was probably the best decision I made throughout the entire event. We waited a long time, but we ended up being right up front during the RT Panel and Halo 4 Panel.
So we saw the keynote speaker first which was Freddy Wong and the man is hilarious. It cool to see how he started in the internet movie business and see where he is now. After his panel the RT Panel began with Gus, Burnie, Geoff, Joel, and Matt. They started with questions then showed us Episode 6 which is, if you haven't seen it yet, monumental! After that the guys attempted a Skype call to Elijah Wood which was supposed to fail but actually failed in a different manner. So what did that mean? It meant Elijah had to come out on stage! That was an amazing surprise! after that we got another sneak peek on an up-and-coming episode.
So on came the Halo 4 Panel hosted by members of 343 Industries and Certain Affinity including Frank O'Connor. We got a look at the new and improved Forge Mode which is bringing amazing improvements like being able to lock objects and magnet mode which lines up objects (sorry, no undo button). All I can say is, the other improvements/additions will make custom games EXTREMELY fun again. After seeing that and some new weapons, we got to see Jack and Geoff test out the very first Halo 4 HORSE map. Hilarity ensued.
Once the Halo 4 Panel ended I headed over the main hall where I jumped into the shop line which was about a mile long (PS, my feet and shins really hurt...). I picked up a Project Freelancer poster and a nifty Achievement Hunter pint glass. I proceed to make my rounds and met Monty, Geoff, Kara, Kathleen, and Shannon, all of whom are extremely nice.
I then went to the Women of YouTube Panel which included Grace Helbig, Hannah Hart, Jenni Powell, Justine Ezarik, Milana Vayntrub, and Stevie Nelson. There's something sexy about good looking women who talk about gaming, boobs, and alcohol. In all seriousness it was a really cool panel touching on women working in a very male dominated setting.
So that ended Day 1 for me and I proceeded to checkout downtown Austin on a Saturday night which is one giant party! I managed to catch a good live band in a Rebels Honkey Tonk and also witnessed topless mechanical bull riding. With extremely hot girls. Who were topless. Multiple times. I then walk around and there are a ton of bars and clubs. Now I know why one of the RT offices was on Congress.
I got back to the motel around 2 and woke up at 5 for the RTX Exclusive filming. It was divided up by badge number. I got mine late and was in the last section dubbed 4000-4500. Each group was designated to a certain block on Congress. So Day 2 starts and I get there and see Burnie, Matt, Marshall, Lindsay, Brandon and Chris in the street with a camera and Joel on the side getting some makeup from Kara. I thought, cool, they'll start here and move up. Turns out the entirety of the main shot was done on that block! Watch out internet, I'm about to get famous!
After the shoot I walk to a neat little Coffee and Crepe cafe with DoomKvlt to get some breakfast then mosey on over to the convention center. There were only two waiting lines this time. One for the main hall and one for the second RT Panel. I decided to wait for the main hall this time to try and get in on some Halo 4. Once we get in I immediately gave up on playing Halo 4 (sadface). I ended up walking around and met Gus, Kerry, Joel, Sean, Yomary, Chris, Luke McKay, Matt, Jason, and Burnie. I then watched Joel and Gus get showered with money, which was donated to Child's Play, and then get beat in Halo 4 by Mega 64 and by Team Girls (totally just made up that name).
Now I'm back home after an amazing weekend in Austin. I will definitely be going back, if not for RTX 2013, but definitely to see more of the city and maybe sneak in a tour at the Rooster Teeth office. Thanks to the cast and crew who brought this all together and thanks to DoomKvlt and wolfofmibu for sharing the motel room. You guys rock!
So that was my RTX 2012 experience? What did you guys do this weekend?
The Captain
P.S. - I had a photo taken with Joel and Sean but it's corrupt I'll at least have the memory. I also have two more photos to come.
