Poke FeverSo I recently got back into Pokemon thanks to a) My sister giving me her old DS that she never used, b) birthday money allowing me to purchase games, and c) Team Lads/IB crew nerding over Pokemon lately, resparking my interest in a franchise I grew up playing.
I'm playing SoulSilver right now, let me know if there's a Gen I/II Pokemon you'd like me to name after you.
Back Home (super long update)Today I finished packing all my shit, hauled it into my mom's van, drove 2.5 hours from Raleigh to Charlotte, unloaded all my shit from the van, and unpacked everything except my clothes.
That's right, I'm home. It's good to be back, and I'm glad I don't have to deal with classes for a while (unless I take summer classes online, which I might need to). I got to see my sister win her last soccer game with her middle school team which was exciting because I haven't actually seen her play in a long time and she's really good. Speaking of my sister, I found her old DS lite lying around and she agreed to let me have it. Only problem is the power cord is missing so I'm going to Gamestop tomorrow to see if they have any. This is good though because I've been wanting to play SoulSilver for a while now since Team Lads has been talking about it so much; hopefully I can quickly convince someone in this house to get it for me for my birthday this weekend so I don't have to buy it. It's also nice because my brother has HeartGold so we can trade and shit, I'm gonna try the ditto method so I can get all the starters with him.
On the topic of video games, I've been reunited with my xbox. I've yet to reactivate my gold status, but I'll probably do so in the coming days so I can play with peeps online. Also I was excited to discover that my brother bought Blood Dragon, FUCK YEAH! I also hope to get the map packs for Halo 4 when I get the chance, but that's lower on the priority list.
So back to this past semester, I'm still waiting on a few grades to be finalized, but here's how things are looking so far: CSC 113: A GC 120: A MSE 201: B SOC 261: C (might get a B, probably won't) *other classes are irrelevant* WOOT!
Remember those projects I wanted to do? -So yeah, hopefully I can start those things I wanted to do before I got so busy with school. The Brohoof Podcast will be transitioning to The Whatever Podcast (name pending), so expect that soon. Speaking of Brohoof, our MLP panel at RTX was approved so now we'll stat actually planning stuff, no matter what it'll be better than last year's panel. -Anime Reviews will be coming back soon. I've watched a lot lately based on recommendations and I can't wait to cover what I can. I hope to try my hand at video reviews, as well as continue my regular written reviews, so that should be fun. -I'll start on Let's Plays as soon as I figure out how I want to do it. As I mentioned, I'll be doing PC games since I don't have a capture card for the xbox, but I just hope to have fun with it. -Oh yeah, I almost forgot about RTX COSPLAY! So I've mentioned before that I want to do a Sokka cosplay, but I'm also gonna try to group cosplay with some cool people. It requires me to get a blazer, so sometime this summer I'm gonna be hitting up the thrift shop with a certain song stuck in my head.
Is that a lot? Yep. Will I get it all done? Hopefully.
All this, and I go back to work on the 19th. Have a great summer everyone!
Semester Wrap UpSo today marks the first day of Exam Week at NCSU which means a week from today I'll be back home in Charlotte! I only have 3 finals this semester, and the first one's not until Monday, so I have a little breathing room to relax for once. I'll need it since next week, though short, will be tough.
Monday: GC 120 final at 8am Tuesday: SOC 261 final at 8am, MSE 201 final at 1pm
These are the classes I'm borderline B/C and I need those B's. Then, as I said earlier, I go back home on Wednesday. Though I'll miss out on Cinco de Mayo, I'll be free to make up for it on the following Saturday when I turn 23 (God, I'm getting old), and then make up for my shenanigans by showing my mom my appreciation on Mother's Day (something you ALL need to do).
Then when that's all done, it's back to work to earn much needed cash for RTX.
Anime Reviews: BonusSo lately I've been talking with friends a lot about anime, specifically with @InternetDave, @TuxedoMob, @Banda, and other members of Hotel Ron. One thing that I though about during these conversations is what anime would compose my "Top 5" list if I ever wrote one. So yeah, I figured since I'm taking a break from reviews at least until I'm done with school, I thought writing and sharing my list would be good filler for this void of content. Without further ado, I present my top 5 anime:
#5: Cowboy Bebop A classic and must-watch for any anime fan. See you space cowboy.
#4: Durarara!! A great character driven story that's really fleshed out and doesn't feel too crowded. I still rewatch it every few months. IiiiiiiizaaaaaaaaaYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
#3: Steins;Gate Fantastic time travel story filled with suspense and emotion. El Psy Congroo.
#2: Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood Great story, animation, and voice acting. One of my top recommendations for someone new to watching anime.
#1: Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion Oh my god. OH. MY. GOD! I could go on for hours about this show (one of the reasons why I haven't written a review on it yet, it'd be way too long) it's just fantastic. And dat ending...
And as a little bonus, here's a few honorable mentions that were just short of my top 5: Sword Art Online Trigun The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
These are my opinions, and clearly I recommend you watch any anime mentioned that you haven't seen already. As always, leave suggestions for anime you'd like me to watch/review and feel free to comment if you have anything you might like to add.
AST: Vocaloid RevisitedSo way back when I started my "Addicting Songs" journals* (now referred to as "AST"), one of my early topics was on Vocaliod. Specifically, it was on Miku Hatsune, an artificial Japanese pop star created using Vocaloid, a program that uses vocal presets to write songs. These fictional pop stars even preform concerts using hologram technology (made popular in America with the return of Tupac), as seen here.
But that was the topic two years ago, and what I wanted to talk about today was how J-pop hits are still being produced through the Vocaloid program to this day. Recently my friend @InternetDave discovered Vocaloid and shared with me a more recent hit using Rin and Lin Kagamine, the second Vocaloid program, called Death Should Not Have Taken Thee. Rin and Lin were designed as a male/female pair that really compliment each other, so much though that their iconic song 'Butterfly On Your Right Shoulder' is one of my favorite Vocaloid songs. 'Death' is also fast and chip-tuny, which is perfect since the song's basically about an old school RPG video game plot.
It's a really fun song that I hope you check out, and if you like it be sure to look up other Vocaloid works (Miku Hatsune, Kaito, Luka Megurine, and others).
* BTW, HOLY SHIT! I didn't realize I've been doing this off and on for two years. Kinda makes me feel bad I don't do these more often.
