Poker Marathon World Record AttemptKevin Pflug is one of many pro poker players that play for real $ on the Pokerstars website. What sets Kevin (aka PokerPoopy) apart though is he's the only player that is going to broadcast on justin.tv as he attempts to attain the world record of most VPPs (a VPP is a VIP Player Point. They are earned on the website by playing hands of poker and can be redeemed for things in the website store, not to mention there are cash bonuses when he hits certain milestones) in a year. His goal is 4 million VPPs. He earns approximately 0.65 VPP per hand. This means he will need ot play 6 million hands in the year, which equates to 16,000 hands a day. To attain this, he will be playing 16-24 tables simultaneously for 10-12 hours a day for over 300 days out of the year.
In my opinion this is simple insanity. If you want to witness the event as it happens live, all year long, just follow this link. If you like what you see, be sure to follow his channel or at least bookmark it. I can only imagine that an endurance run like this relies mostly on the support he receives from his viewers.
DC Universe OnlineAnyone else going to play this game on PC? I'm installing now. I'm planning on making my first character a villain. How about you? What server are you on? Do you want to be friends? Are villains capable of making friends? I guess the closest thing to a friend for a villain would be another villain that hated all of the same people you hate. I really can't stand Superman. Can you?
Let's be super villain "fr-enemies". No heath insurance, no dental. Just blowing things up, causing a ruckus, and hating Superdouche.
How is it...that people like RvB soooo much, but when one of their web admins informs them that the guys prefer people to visit the site or the youtube channel to view their videos instead of streaming it online for whomever on justin.tv, they all of a sudden decide to say, "Fuck you" to the admin?
I seriously love "internet lawyers".
I frequent j.tv and have made some good friends on there. To be fair, the streamer complied fairly quickly, but some of his viewers were saying the channel should be banned before the streamer stops. Don't give up, fight the man attitude. That my opinion didn't matter.
So, instead of being cool to the people you like and admire, they thought it would be better to make them punch you in the face before you ever listen to them?
Kinect Review/QuestionsHey guys, I know it's been a while since I created a real journal. Anyway, I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas this year.
My girlfriend bought me a Kinect this year. I knew ahead of time she had bought it for me, she made it a point to ask whether her "friend" might want a Kinect or Move more. There are pros and cons to both I'm sure, however I mentioned some pros about the Kinect that, after playing with it tonight, I see simply aren't there.
For example, I thought my girlfriend would be able to play games with me. She's in a wheelchair and has very limited arm movement. I did read previously online about one overjoyed mother that found her son who was in a similar situation was able to use the Kinect to play videogames. That wasn't the case here though. When initially setting up the Kinect, it didn't even recognize her. It treated her as if she were part of the furniture. It asked her to "stand in the circle" to help calibrate but it didn't detect her at all. I had her move towards and away from the sensor as well as left and right in hopes it would detect the movement. Nothing. I skipped that part and tried to have her wave at the sensor, another calibration step. Again it didn't detect her movement.
After I played with the Kinect myself I found that the movements it looks for are really grand sweeping gestures. You really have to move your arms around, and be able to hold them in positions that those with disabilities would be hard pressed to replicate.
I was also excited for being able to use the voice commands with the dashboard. I envisioned having starting the 360 up and saying something along the lines of "Xbox Netflix" and having it bring Netflix up, then saying, "Xbox Play Nightmare Before Christmas" and having it start the appropriate selection or at least ask for confirmation of the selection.
Instead, what you are asked to do when you start the 360 up is wave your hand at the sensor or say, "Xbox Kinect". You are then taken to another dashboard. Only this dashboard is stripped down giving you a limited selection of options. Zune, Last.FM, ESPN are some media options available, but no Netflix.
To bring up the guide you have to stand in a certain posture for a few seconds, then it brings you to a Kinect Guide, stripped donwn again. I saw I had some messages from friends. You can read or listen to them, but you are unable to delete them. You can reply using voice only.
I played a bit of Kinectimals, I know the game is really made for kids, so I'll forgive the annoying host. However, the unskippable intro and the LONG tutorial made for a nearly unbearable wait until I was finally able to interact with my wild cat.
Actually interacting with the pet WAS really cool. It's definitely a neat piece of technology. Though I have to say, the Kinect, for me, is really underwhelming. Unless they are planning an update that integrates the Kinect motion controls and voice controls into the regular Dashboard, I can't recommend this peripheral to anyone. It really feels like a gimmick item to me when it isn't integrated into the original OS at all and is given an additional little side OS.
Not sure if I'm going to try to return it or not. Has anyone heard any rumblings about it being integrated into the regular dashboard in the future? The games might be fun, but being a "core gamer" is it going to be worth holding onto this peripheral?
New Project.I've decided to start writing two jokes every day. One for my Facebook status, and one for my Twitter status. Should be a challenging if not interesting project. It started with my Facebook status last night...
"Has anyone suggested plugging the spill with Jay Leno's chin to BP? Even in the off chance that it doesn't work, everyone wins."
Facebook status for today...
"Levi Johnston and Bristol Palin are engaged. It's nice to see them continue their strive for the american dream of getting pregnant at 17, battling each other through mainstream media, posing in playgirl, attacking each other some more, then getting married, while wearing a camouflage vest, for the baby."
Twitter status today...
"Whoopi Goldberg said Mel Gibson isn't a racist and has been a friend. Also, that Gibson Friend #3 was the best paying role she'd had in ages"
Twitter is probably going to be the toughest. I understand the challenge Conan goes through with fitting a whole joke in 140 characters. That last one is exactly 140.
If you're interested in keeping up, here are my Facebook and Twitter pages.
