LazyOK - so I have been really lazy about reading and commenting on journals. I'm still here, just not completely here. I spend a lot of time on Facebook's Mafia Wars. It's a dumb game that I'll probably be giving up soon. I spend way too much time on there and it's JUST A GAME! I have to keep saying that or I forget it!

MIke had an accident at work (2 weeks ago this Friday) and lost his job last week. So we are on the hunt for something bigger and better. Everyone is always telling him he looks like a cop so I think he is considering going that route. He went to the Texas Workforce Commission (ie unemployment office) and got some good info for Veterans programs and they really helped him out with his resume and the start of the job search. I am impressed with his efforts so far - it's probably not easy to not want to sit at home all day and goof off. He has the GI Bill for about 5 more years and they give Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) - not sure if I got that right or not, but money to go to school, and if he can get that and unemployment and tuition for the training program he wants paid for, then we won't be doing too bad. It'll be tight for a while but I've been there before. Not what I told my date. LOL

Take care everyone and hopefully with the start of football season, more of my old friends will be here at RT and make this a more enjoyable site for me. Happy Tuesday.

I would encourage him to definately used that GI money...As soon as I lose weight I want to join so I can get the money for the GI bill. BAH is a blessing too. What rank is he?

In reply to La_bella, #2:

An E-4 - he lost a rank when we met 7 years ago and didn't try for it again since he knew he was getting out.

Coppin is good! And in Texas, theres a LOT of jobs open. The best route for him in texas at this point would be to pay for the academy himself (out of pocket) and get TSCLEO certified. As soon as he gets that, he'll get offers left and right!!!

Only problem is that some agencies like Dallas require you still go through their academy...but most places just require that you are TSCLEO certified...

Thanks Drum! There is a academy that the Vets told him about for Central Texas, that starts in September (for 6 months) that is$1500 before any equipment charges and the GI Bill would cover it. It's full for August though so he has to wait til Feb. There is an evening only class as well as an all day one. I told him that I think he would go crazy in the all day one (like high school) so he would probably do better in the night classes. It runs from Mon - Thurs - 6pm to 10pm and almost all Saturdays from 8-5pm.

Welcome back! I hope he's okay and good luck with the job search. Not an easy time to be looking but I've always believed where there's a will, there's a way.

I hope Mike is doing ok, and good for him for starting to search for a new career right away. If you're looking for more info on police training and financial support, military or otherwise, you might want to visit your library. Libraries have lots of job resources, and they also collect information from community organizations and governments about different programs.

Good luck to Big Mike. If you ever need anybody to bring up a few cases of Hefe-Weizen, to lighten up y'alls spirits from time to time, well, you know who to call.

Say, D-Bo, owes me $20. He said, he was going over to the 'lasha-apso' whorehouse, and he never paid me back.

I'm having the worst time catching up! I've barely posted, and I'm trying to read and comment on most posts. Hoping to tackle it next week when I'm off work.

It's nice that you took a moment to catch us up, it's appreciated.
