Trick AND Treat

Right now I've finally retreated to my room; my son Spyton is having friends over for Halloween. I had to man the front door from 3 to 7 (official trick-or-treating hours for our town) and then I was in charge of snacks and then acquiring dinner and other entertainment.

So I missed out on a Halloween party I'd been invited to, but I still dressed up, as I remember always thinking it was cool when moms came to the door to give out candy dressed up as a witch or whatnot.

So I dressed up ... well it was supposed to be as a vampire. But my son balked at me putting in my fake fangs or putting on the giant bat wings. He said it would be embarrassing in front of his friends.

AS IF THEY DON'T ALREADY ALL KNOW I'M A WEIRDO BY NOW!!!

But okay, so I just went like this, right whatever:

One bad thing about getting older is you can't really dress up as a fairy princess or Batgirl or Tinkerbell or ... other young things. I was bemoaning this and one of my kid's friends helpfully suggested I could go as the Crypt Keeper. Yes. I'll... keep that in mind. Thanks. A BUNCH!

Anyway, best costume that came by tonight was a teenaged boy with a crazy black wig on and a little toy chair on a string around his neck with a sign that said "Senate Seat" with a price tag on it. Yes, he was dressed as ousted Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich. He was full of win.

I love being in an apartment complex where I don't have to deal with the trick or treaters. Because if there's one thing I hate more than kids, it's kids who think they deserve something!!!

Now get off my lawn!! Wait, I don't have a lawn....

As a fellow resident of the state of Illinois I agree that a Blago costume is in fact full of win.

First off, very nice outfit.

Second, you could still pull off Tinkerbell very well... you've got a fine enough figure, the right hair color and the right shape face to make an awesome Tink.

Third, you are very brave for having Spyton's friends over. I still would have put in the fangs, though... that's one of a parent's rights (if not an outright responsibility) to embarass their children.

It you shaved your head you could easily pull off a Bene Gesserit Reverand Mother in that outfit. They live hundreds of years and have all sorts of cool mental powers.

Oh.... and thier evil. For the most part.

Or maybe add some flight goggles and go steampunk. Victorian pretty much = steampunk and I think that's a major theme at your Windycon this year.

Kudos for you for even dressing up. I have a cold and basically slept through the entire day.... only waking to take another dose of sleepy cold drugs.

Dang!

Shatt3r3d beat me to it.

I was thinking a Bene Gesserit reverend mother, too.

Regardless, it is a parent's right and obligation to embarrass their offspring when they are teenagers. Wear your fangs, drip some blood and put on those giant bat wings. You might even scare a couple of them, and that's always good for a laugh.

I just read HAFT (which is always awesome).

I'm thinking there are some heavy Freudian undertones here. Or maybe there are oedipal overtones. Not sure. Maybe I should have paid more attention when I was reading Piaget in that Developmental Psych course in college.

Or maybe it's just a cigar.
