A DilemmaThe number of people who have told me they like Inception makes me instinctively distrust it. I never saw Avatar on similar logic. I am curious, but everyone being so psyched sets off my radar.

If this was a disease, I would call it "Geoff Ramseyitis"*.

*Also known as "being an asshole".

Well, how did you feel about Dark Knight? Titanic? Because I'd say it's more about the director than it is about popular opinion. I share your sense that popular opinion is often horribly misguided. But look at the directors and think about it this way; Inception : Dark Knight :: Avatar : Titanic.

I haven't seen Inception yet, but I won't hesitate in telling you I need to see it for myself. That being said, I will be really surprised if there are any mind blowing and really new ideas in it. Only gfunk would think that.

By this logic if you were alive in 1977 you wouldn't have gone to see Star Wars.

Aka your logic is stupid.

All I ever heard about Avatar was that the story, characters, and dialogue were shit, but the special effects were awesome. I saw it for myself and found all of that to be true.

Inception is genuinely a good movie. If Toy Story 3 hadn't come out, I'd say it was the best movie of the year so far.

Star Wars is a shitty movie for children. I thought that outside of Heath Ledger, the Dark Knight was pretty awful. The script reads like it was written by a team of 8 year olds.

Inception is very well done and takes some intelligence to fully understand what's going on. It works on multiple different levels* so that most anyone can get something enjoyable out of it. It's intelligent enough to give serious moviegoers something to think about or try to figure out. It has enough action sequences to give die hard movie goers something to cheer about. It has Leonardo Dicaprio for all the love-struck Leo fangirls to squeal about. The casting was one thing that got me. A couple of big name actors but mostly a bunch of actors I had not seen before. And they all played very well off each other. Christopher Nolan did a very good job with directing this one, in my opinion. I definitely think it is worth the trip to make your own opinion. Most people I have talked to said it is their "new favorite movie ever." I'll agree that it is a great movie, but I don't know about "best ever." Definitely among my favorites though.

*no pun intended, as the main point of the movie revolves around multiple levels of dreaming.

Inception's an action flick with just enough of a brain to make it interesting. It's not cerebral, but it's smart and fun to watch, and, really, that's all I'm looking for in a film.

Its got Roger from Angel's in the Outfield and Juno from...Juno...what more could you ask for in a movie?

Oh, Kobayashi from Usual Suspects too.
