Project: Write A God Damn NovelSo, a few of you know that I've been hyping myself up for a little announcement today and from the title I'm willing to bet that you know where this is going.
As I've said a few times now, I started progress on a novel earlier in the year only with Uni out of the way for now I'm essentially free to have at it but I don't want to do it alone. I want to make sure that I have as much motivation as possible and I want to broadcast how the story is developing without giving too much away.
What will this mean exactly? It means a weekly counter update on how many words and pages have been written with a daily word count goal starting at 1,000 per day (more if I have a writing flow going) which will eventually increase as I get used to the consistency. It will also mean trying to spark constructive dialogue with those of you interested whenever I come across a writer's block. The point of this being to maintain a writing pace that will have a completed draft within a matter of a few months.
(Mini-Updates will also be broadcast frequently via my twitter)
Now, what happens when the novel has been completed and successfully edited? Simple, that's when I start sending out query letters to Literary Management Agencies and Publishing Houses that accept unsolicited material both inside Australia as well as outside. This segment will probably be the most boring as it can take up to 6 weeks (minimum) to hear back from most agencies/houses.
You: Alright, enough with the logistics, what in the hell are you writing about Sean? I'm glad you asked random reader. It's something that starts out as being a little familiar for me and then branches outwards from there. Anywho, I shall answer that question with a blurb for the novel that will be called - The Mars Rover:Meet Virgil Mason, an aspiring wannabe author who works for the Seattle Times. He hates his job, he's not gifted for news writing, he's socially clueless, his writing career doesn't appear to be going anywhere and things are about to get interesting for him. When his only friend Alec commits suicide due to an incurable case of leukaemia Virgil is given a lump sum of cash and sent out on a journey across America. Alec's will requests that Virgil is to meet various strangers from Alec's life to help him better understand the one thing his bright, young mind can't seem to get a grasp on. People.
It's a story about people, about finding identity in modern-day America, what exactly that is and how Asperger Syndrome fits in to western society.
Thanks for reading, I hope this has caught the interest of some of you and I hope you stay tuned. Tell your friends! Well, what do you think?
