It has begun.

The first batch of year 2012 has started, these are Jalapeno and Habanero, Should be about 90-100 days before harvest, and should produce something like 400-500 peppers.

I've also got some seeds coming in for Bhut Jolokia, as well as the Trinidad Scorpion.... We'll see if i can get them to harvest this year, it'll be rough, considering I live in an apartment.

Mmm...Trinidad Scorpion peppers

I feel sorry for Michael already, no doubt he'll have to eat some for our entertainment.

Trinidad Scorpion just doesn't taste good. I had a chicken glazed in it, and it didn't have the same kind of flavor heat that habanero and ghost chili have.

Anything above a million i expect this to be the case; Even ghost chili doesn't taste all that great.

I grow both Jalapenos and Habaneros as well. Our summer finished and we are in autumn now so mine have all finished. It was my first year trying. Grew a fair few of them as well! I grew a few other variesties as well with a fair bit of success.

Hey Adam, my dad grows peppers/chilli's, (not as hot as your, but still packing something.
and one of my friends thought he would be hard core and tried to eat one, and his mouth litterally caught fire.

Do you order your seeds from somewhere? I am having trouble finding Bhut Jolokia pepper seed locally in Oklahoma. I have been wanting to grow some for awhile.

There's a pepper store here in austin, as well as a few retailers online I've grown to trust. (Online order seeds are often bad, they can just send you 72-cent Jalapeno seeds, and you don't know until its too late. )

Great start. I've got about 10 different varieties going this year so far. Habs, Scorpions, 7 pots, Bih Jolokia, and some others. The lowest is supposed to be around 300,000 SHU. Good luck with yours.

You are correct; the pepper (generation one) isn't effected, but the seeds that come from Generation One's Peppers will be, so when you plant those next year and grow generation two, you can have hybrids.

I'm curious because i plan on doing the same; purposefully cross pollinating ...

I saved seeds from a Chocolate Hab and a Carribean Red a buddy grew and planted them this year. I'm interested to see what comes from them since he didn't do anything to keep them from crossing. It's always a chore trying to raise exotic breeds, but hopefully it will be worth it.
