This week's Rooster Teeth Community question was inspired by the one and only @Supafitz
Today I conquered The Water Temple in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Yes, yes, I know, I do deserve a round of applause, but more importantly, I was reminded of my first play-through of the infamous dungeon. Every sound in LoZ brings back a memory from my childhood, as do many other game remakes, like Halo Anniversary or Sonic Generations. So this week, I thought we could each share some of our favorite gaming memories.
What is ONE level that you played over and over again as a child because you loved it so much?
Please be sure to post the NAME OF THE VIDEO GAME in bold at the top of your comment to avoid spoiling anything for readers (or you can use the spoiler font if you want, doesn't matter). Lets see if any of us share the same fond memories, and be ready for next week when we'll talk about the video game moments we despised!
My answer: CONKER'S BAD FUR DAY
Level: Enter the Vertex
Chainsaws, machine guns, and teddy bears. Conker's Bad Fur Day was the SHIT back in the day (seriously, there's an entire song about shit that's featured in the game). Yep, Conker's BFD is probably one of my favorite games of all time (and is filled with the classiest of high-brow humor), and the last level of the game featured an elaborate parody of The Matrix that was JUST. SO. AWESOME. My little brother and I played it to the point of memorization and it was STILL fun. Sure, Microsoft rereleased the game for the Xbox, but it just wasn't the same. No sir, my hat goes of to the furry, red squirrel from 2001. Here's to you and your chocolate bars, buddy!

I could go in any direction with this thing, but the one that came to my mind first is the N64 version of Rainbow Road. The track was so huge and the music that played in the background was awesome. I would play the track over and over again for the first drop, just so I could hit the bounce and see how far I would fly. Trying to dodge the chomp-chomps that would come at you about 4 or 5 times a lap, I considered it a great achievement if I made it through a race without being eaten by one.
Not so much a level, but I can still see the map of GTA:San Andreas in my head, and can mentally visualize my way through all the highways from Los Santos to San Fierro to Las Venturas and back to where I began, in both car and plane.
Aside from that, the level Silent Cartographer was my most played specific one, because it was the demo for PC, so I sat and played that for hours on end.
I loved the little turtles, how they looked when you used the hammer to turn them on their shells, and also the noise the hammer made when you hit things with it. It was just the perfect little pop! I would run around just bopping things with that hammer. Also to be noted my love for killing those turtles did not translate into real life violence. When I see turtles in the road I tend to pull over, get out of the car and carry them to the other side. It's only in the video games that I show no mercy.
Urgh no, never turtle rock. We used to name the dungeons based on what was in them / where they were so the Palace of Darkness became the Turtle Dungeon.
Spyro 3: Year of the Dragon - The skateboarding level I played that level so many times dude. SO MANY. I could do every trick that there was. I got high scores so high that.. That low scores were all like, "Man, those scores are just huge." But seriously, that level was so much fun. A friend and I spent an entire weekend just playing it over and over, trying to get higher scores. Makes me wish my PS2 was still working so I could play it again.
Yeah! Dear lord, how could I forget that. He is a cheetah that is a hunter. What's his name again? If I was any dumber I would have thought his name was fucking Chester Cheeto
After running and losing to the Combine for a large portion of the game and seeing the evil of their violent, oppressive regime, it was great to lead the rebellion and get some payback for all the awful things they had done. This level kicked off the rebellion that was probably the most satisfying sequence I have ever played in a video game.
Truly an awesome moment. HL2 really does offer a surprising range of memorable levels. One minute you're driving an airboat, the next you're trudging through Ravenholm...*shivers*
I agree, the variety of environments and gameplay elements combined with the amazing atmosphere really provides a universe that draws you in and gives some of the most spectacular moments in gaming history.
Kingdom Hearts II I must have played the level where you have to defeat 1000 heartless at least 7 times each in a different play through and in different ways, it was just so much fun an it made you seem like the most powerful mother fucker on the planet
First of all, Props Miles, I spent MONTHS playing that game over and over and over again. For me: Super Mario RPG Gino's Forest and The Tower Princess Peach was kept in I remember spending hours in this game, but I loved the music in the forest. Just spent hours walking around there, and then even MORE time looking for easter eggs in the tower princess peach was kidnapped to (spoilers, also I can't remmber the name of the bad guy). EXCELLECT game though.
I played that level so many times throughout my childhood, I just loved fighting in the canteen-like area and then crawling through the little dark walkways and sprinting for the escape pod, so Epic!
I could easily play this level over and over again. Taking Johnson's sniper rifle then hopping up on buildings and acting like a super sniper. I could run across the rooftops, do a speed run, or play the level through it's entirety like it was meant to be played. Halo 2 wasn't the first game I owned but it sure is hell is my favorite game of all time.
Halo Combat Evolved: The Silent Cartographer me and my friends invented a game called Warthog Derby we would get the two warthogs and crash them into each other because if you do it right you can go flying and then when they get thrown from the vehicle you run them over until they get back in the warthog. I remember flying so freaking high it was awesome.....and i was glad i was able to do it in anniversary too
Knights of the Old Republic I'd go hard and power through the game on the highest difficulty, doing every mission, every side quest, and would finish all the character development conversations. The moment you hack down Malak and watch the medals get pinned on you, I would go again.. and again... and again. I forget how many times I really 100%ed it...far too many.
Once I got my hands on the second one, Same process.
I'm pretty sure there's another game that overshadows this one but I definitely played this level a lot because it was the first game that had awesome sword controls.
Totally agree with you that Conker's Enter the Vertex was amazing. Showed it to all my friends but no one cared. Also totally agree that the Xbox version didn't live up to it. The multiplayer in Conker's BFD kept me entertained for hours. Then I got older and understood all the single player jokes.
I don't know why but I just love sniping the guards in that level on top of the dam. That is really the only reason I'll go back to play it over, and over, and over again. I'm a big fan of first person shooters and it was this game that really spawned that addiction. Even though I'm a terrible sniper in all the other first person shooters, I'm always a lethal killer with the sniper in GoldenEye.
Level: the last level were you fight Magneto on Avalon
I loved X-men when I was a kid (and still do ) so the entire game was awesome but fighting Magneto in a level based off a recent comic event was the best. It was like being able to play part of the story of a comic book. And nothing was better than using Wolverine to defeat Magneto. So epic
Spyro the Dragon in general. I played through that game so many times the disc stopped working and I needed a new copy.
Either that or Final Fantasy V in World 2, I loved the battle against the four crystals. It was so difficult for me but I had a save beforehand that I would go back to and just fight them again and again.
I played this game (and beat it) over 9 years ago. Last year I picked it up and remember where EVERY SINGLE THING was. Every boss, enemy, missile upgrade, health upgrade, etc. It's funny how the brain remembers things that, huh?
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Level: Green Hill Zone Because even though its the first level it was still the best. You knew where to find the chaos emeralds and the background music (www.youtube.com/watch?v=SF9ZLNxHaBY) was a song everyone knew what it was when they heard it, and you would try to get as many coins as you could in that level and scream as loud as you could when that ONE enemy hit you.
Even to this day I still play this game. One of the few games I had for my SNES back in the day and I played the hell out of it. Every level had awesome music that made me come back to it again and again. If I had to choose just one it would probably be Area 3. It had a swimming part, a part where you had to wall bounce and the boss at the end was made entirely of eyeballs! 'Nuff said. Have a look. Area 3
This was my second choice. I was the only one in my circle of friends who had an Xbox, and EVERY TIME they came over, they wanted to play Assault on the Control room. I have that place memorized.
I can easily play the Water Temple in my head, I know EVERY Square pixel in that level

The Pillar of Autumn
When i hear the song start i instantly want to play Halo for as long as possible on my PC. I love that game so much.
I don't have a specific level. I enjoyed those games so much. I would play them almost everyday when I was younger.
Level: Rainbow Road
I could go in any direction with this thing, but the one that came to my mind first is the N64 version of Rainbow Road. The track was so huge and the music that played in the background was awesome. Mario Kart Double Dash!
BABY PARK.
it's brutal when you play against good players on a small course like that. But SOOOOOOO fun

Level: Follow Freeman!
After running and losing to the Combine for a large portion of the game and seeing the evil of their violent, oppressive regime, it was great to lead the rebellion and get some payback for all the awful things they had done. This level kicked off the rebellion that was probably the most satisfying sequence I have ever played in a video game.

I always felt an obsession with my chaos so I really had to grind!
Just searching for all the riddles and riddler trohpies

Area 3
Assault on the control room
I loved this level solely on the fact that you can steal a banshee from the Covenant and end the level early.
(Also, Banshee steal ftw!)
Level: The Covenant
This is more like LATER childhood, but growing up is stupid so I'm still considered in my childhood. The Covenant
It was so cool to see the pelicans and phantoms fly in, disperse, and land on the beach to fight with a spartan laser. good times

The Elite 4. It's always satisfying to walk up to "The 4 strongest trainers in the region, and their champion" then kick their asses.
Beating Red, the King of all Kings.
