The Faraway FutureCan you imagine a time when we, the people of today, the past 100 years, and the next 100 years, will be the central settings to generations of folklore and mythology? Where our descendants will look back on us and think, "They drove cars? They shot guns? Their strongest weapon at the time was the nuclear bomb?"

It's kinda interesting, when you think about it. Our world, our way of life, being nothing more than stories and legends with creative twists and mystical turns. Where the celebrities of today will be the forgotten names of the past, and the only people who will live on will be those who changed the world.

Just some food for thought.

I started watching Avatar recently, just finished the first season in fact and if it's taught me anything its that if you make a big enough impression, you can even be remembered after a 100 years.

Personally I would love to go down in history, stick out amongst my fellow man because I did something great which defines me as a person. However I think I'll just settle for one day having children and being happy in the knowledge that in 100 years, perhaps my great, great, great grandchildren might one day stop and think about their ancestors, what kind of people we were, perhaps they might discover find a photo album or family tree.

That's where they will see a photo of me, wearing my skull shirt and giving a peace sign.

That's how I want to be remembered.

Since you're the first person to take on the task of giving him a face, before even I had given a description of him in the texts, that essentially makes your rendition of him the official one.

Wow, so my version of John Walker is the official rendition... Damn. That's awesome.

I can only hope my vision of John serves you well throughout your time writing his and Sheridan's stories.

This actually made me want to look at the differences between today and 1912. I read a few interesting things.

The first military use of an airship (Not a plane, an airship) was in 1912. The Italians used them for reconnaissance during their campaign in Tripoli.

The Titanic sunk in 1912, taking 1500 people with it. That incident paved the way for the modern system of emergency response to accidents at sea, and led to important engineering discoveries related to the integrity of ships.

The Royal Flying Corps was established in the UK in 1912. The RFC was the predecessor to the RAF, which is the modern British air force.

The US Marines invaded Nicaragua in 1912 in an effort to keep a dictator who was Pro-US in power.

And my favorite,
In 1912, the Mayor of Tokyo gifted 1,000 Cherry Blossom trees to the city of Washington, DC as a sign of friendship.

Now, keep in mind, 1912 was 49 years after the battle of Gettysburg, 2 years before WWI, and only 51 years after the start of the American Civil War. People who were alive during the Civil War, people who fought in it, were still alive to remember it. As of 2012, there are no more Civil War veterans (there haven't been for 60 years), and there are no more WWI veterans, which occurred 2 years after 1912.

Pretty cool.

>>> 'WHY ARE WE HERE' MODE: DISABLED

I wonder what the food will be like in 100 years...
and what the videogames will be like...
and the RT staff....

I was going to do a thing similar to Cuban, but I'm busy and can't focus right now.

I can, and I do, almost every single day...

It's comforting to think that in 100 years it'll be the ones who invent and shape policy that will be remembered and no one will no who the FUCK Kim Kardashian was.

I've thought about this quite a bit. I've always wondered; what will my great-great-grandchildren be driving? What will they be using for entertainment? How will the world bring out new things and what will those things be?
Will it be more like what you see in Star Wars? (the cities and flying vehicles)
Or more like Halo? Will there be another world war?

My thoughts decide to go to a Thanksgiving buffet every day of the year.

I have not thought about this at all until now. I guess that means I live in the present, just amazed at all the new advances in technology and biology and new discoveries that scientists and people make every day.

I do of course have some idea of what I would like my future to be and I know I would want to be remembered by my friends and family and their family and a speck in the tales told by people I may have met once.
