Fool Me OnceI pre-ordered Black Ops back when I saw a trailer that had the tomahawk, the ballistic knife, and the RC-XD. It looked as though Treyarch had done some cool things with multiplayer and maybe it would be a good relief from the grief I had from MW2 being hacked and cheap. I played through the campaign and liked it, but when I moved onto MP, I had some concerns. I ignored many of the faults at first because I was giving the game the benefit of the doubt, but the more I played, the more concerned I became. The MP seemed sloppy and unresponsive. Kills were not cut and dry like I had been used to. Most people told me I just needed to get used to it and it wasn't the kind of twitchy shooter I had fallen in love with when I started playing MW2. I listened for a while and then realized that all of those people were idiots. A shooter needs to be responsive, balanced, and fair to play. I need to know that when I have every advantage on an unaware enemy player, I am almost guaranteed a kill and if I didn't get it, that was on me. Black Ops was so sensitive to internet connections that the lag comp would render the game unfair and almost unplayable to a self respecting player who didn't have a 15ms ping.

Needless to say, it wasn't worth continued grief to suffer through the MP anymore just to attempt to entertain myself with those brief glances at fun that would occur when the stars aligned. I called it quits on the Black Ops MP. I tried to play zombies with friends, but most of them either had full parties or had rigid rules about how I had to play in order to reach the furthest levels. They had lost sight of having fun and were instead grinding away for the bragging rights of the highest level reached. Black Ops was essentially dead for me. An occasional LAN party to play zombies is one of the only reasons I put the disc in my XBOX.

Fast forward to today. I watched the trailer for BLOPS2 and was impressed with the plot. The visuals are the same as they ever were, which is fine because we don't need to be obsessed with better graphics, we need to be obsessed with better gameplay. We will see how the MP looks in this one, but I am going to play the skeptic for as long as I can. Treyarch has a style and they don't seem to deviate from it. I am concerned that I will have the same experience with this new one. I will probably still buy the game, but it most likely won't be a pre-order and if I do decide to purchase it, it will most definitely not be at full price.

Fool me once Treyarch, shame on you; This time I will make sure you don't fool me again. I will not bear that shame.

I know exactly what you mean. Although, I am not impressed at all with the Black Ops 2 trailer. I need to know a heck of a lot more in order for me to purchase this game. Multiplayer is what I do, and the entire trailer focused on the "gadgets." I don't like gadgets, I like sniper rifles, assault rifles, LMGs, etc. I like guns. The more realistic the better as far as feel goes; that is what I generally prefer and look for.

I'm not pre-ordering until I can see something that really stands out to me as being "awesome." Not even Halo 4 has anything like that for me yet.

Then again.... I think I'm in a video game rut right now.

I gave up on Call of Duty after the first modern warfare. I actually play Battlefield and love it.
