Time for a change.I've been working at the same place for 7 years now and I still make less than $10 an hour. I'm not really happy with what I'm doing mostly because we're treated like children and it's become so redundant that I find myself drifting off at times. That's not good when I'm holding someone's life in my hands. So, yesterday after work I stopped by the office of a man I work with on the weekend and he's over the MLT program at Jackson State Community College and I had a talk about getting into his program and what it would take to do so.

For those who don't know, MLT stands for Medical Laboratory Technician, and I work along side of them every day. They run all the tests that get sent down to the lab for the physicians. It's an Associate's degree and after three years of working and a few more hours of class, you can test to become an MT (Medical Technologist) or CLS (Clinical Laboratory Scientist) which is the same thing, just called differently by the state and the Pathology group that certifies our lab.

What I have to do is just get readmitted to the college since I did a semester 8 years ago and do an academic fresh start to get rid of those F's I got after not showing up to my finals due to Mono. No big deal. I'm just going to have to take Chemistry, Anatomy and Physiology 1 & 2, Psychology, English, and an Elective (probably will do this one online and first). After that I can apply for the program which is 2 years. I will immediately be bumped up about 5 or 6 bucks an hour in pay for MLT and MT is another 4 dollar jump.

It's really something that has to be done. I'm excited that I'm actually doing it, but scared out of my mind about going back to school after so long. It's been 10 years this year since high school. I'm just glad I don't have to take Algebra...
