pink floydthe name pink floyd came from syd barretts two favorite bluesmen - floyd council and pink anderson. After syd barrett left the band in 1968 or so, the band needed a new main song writer, pink floyds bassist- Roger Waters took on this role. David Gilmor the youngest member of the group born in 1946 (i think) became the secondary songwriter and lead guitarist, also the main vocalist. Nick Mason was on drums and Rick Wright was on keyboard. After Syd left the band Pink floyd had to forge a new identity, they did this by alot of hard work and it paid off. From 1969 to 1972 pink floyd released 6 albums and completed 4 world tours. However Pink floyd realy hit it big in 1973 releasing one of the most susessful albums of all time. this album focused on lifes most important aspects money (money), time (time) and death (the great gig in the sky). Dark side of the moon was almost fully constructed by Roger Waters and is some of his greatest works.
Floyds next huge album was "the wall" believed to be about roger water's alienation from his fans, with a "wall" (being a sortof mental barrier) seperating pink floyd from their fans. in one of the wall's concert tours a huge wall was actually put up on the stage. the wall sold 23 million copied and apparently was the #3 selling album of all time. In 1985 Roger waters left pink floyd to chase a solo career. the bands last tour was in 1994 which was the end of pink floyd. However they are rejoining soon for britains live8 thing on poverty for charity. Also those kids featuring in "another brick in the wall" want to get royalties for the parts they did in the song. and also the band reformed for live 8 which was the first time the entire band had performed for 24 years and they were still good in a non seksual way
and thats the game
