RvBTO: The Finale
I never wanted to have to write this journal.. which for me, is possibly the most accurate definition of bitter-sweet.
This weekend is RvBTO. If you've been following me for any amount of time, it is likely you know what this is. In case you don't, here's a summary: RvBTO (or Red vs. Blue Toronto) is a fan-created event in Toronto, Canada that began in summer of 2005. It is the first RT fan event and has been happening every summer since its birth. It's a weekend that brings together members of the RT community to celebrate Red vs. Blue, Rooster Teeth, and most of all, the friendships we have created on this website.
This coming weekend marks the 8th and final official RvBTO. It hasn't quite sunk in yet due to the craziness of this past year. I can't even begin to describe how this annual tradition has impacted my life, or how it is responsible for some of the best times I've ever had. I can't count the number of life-long friends I have made from attending every year. I can't imagine my life without it.
7 summers in a row, soon to be 8, I traveled to Toronto to spend the weekend with the best people in the world. 7 years I've spent anticipating each event and basking in the memories of years past. It is what sparked my love for this community, and as a result, I am where I am now- trying to show everyone who signs up here how amazing this community is, and how valuable these friendships can be.
Something that only a few people know is that the day I announced that this year would be the final RvBTO is also the day I found out I was being offered a position at Rooster Teeth. I don't know what that really means, but it just shows that when one door closes, another opens.
Whenever someone asks me about my experience with RvBTO, it's hard to put into words. Even sitting down at a computer, having time to think and type, I still end up rambling and can't quite explain it. The best I can do is to pretend RvBTO is a person, and say thank you. Thank you for giving me the best memories I'll ever have, the best friends I'll ever have, and for helping me become the woman I am today. Thank you for shedding light on what my true passion is. Thank you for paving the way for other events around the world, allowing people experience the joy that this community brings. Thank you for being a light in my life for the past 7 years.
Let's send you off with a bang, shall we? Bring it on, RvBTO 2012.
