I am back, and very disappointed to see no one posted in NSiD (or any of the other forums I watch, for that matter...)

John CarterSaw John Carter. Cant say I was overly impressed with the storyline (so many holes/contradictions) but I would like to take a moment to love on the alien races (the green one, not the stupid human-with-makeup one). The tharks (big four armed, tusked green guys) were really well thought out. For one thing, FEMALES DIDNT HAVE BREASTS! I cannot stress how stupidly happy that made me, finally! On top of that, they actually had four arms. Which makes sense, since just about everything else on the planet had extra limbs as well (Avatards take note). Consistency! Not only did they have four limbs, the art directors made the extra limbs WORK (Ive tried making humanoids with extra limbs, its hard to do it believably).The tusks were a nice touch, and the design team rivaled Bioware in its ability to make unique individuals without changing anything that wouldnt logically be different. Theyre all big, green, and have the same number of limbs, but each one was unique and recognizable. Thats impressive. As far as the other species go, I liked the lumbering rhino mounts, and the dog thing was FUCKING ADORABLE even though it made no sense.
One oddity I noticed was colors. Greens and blues dont make a lot of sense on a fairly monochromatic planet. The other downside (Bioware take note) was that, even with all their changes, the tharks were just...too human. Even the non sapient creatures were too relatable to really feel alien.
Of course, thats because they HAVE to be relatable, but Im still waiting for Hollywood/game companies to pump out a truly alien creature.
As far as the actual movie, its all kinds of fun if youre looking for a mind numbing CGI fest, but I would wait for the DVD release if youre a plot Nazi. :)
