Final Fantasy XIII Okay, let me start off with a small disclaimer. I can't tell you the last RPG I played. It was probably back in the Sega or PlayStation 1 days, if at all. I was never into the magical games with potions and stuff like that, it just never tickled my fancy honestly.
One day Eric showed me Bleach, a Japanese anime with these very same magical features that I never quite understood. Something about Bleach really caught my eye. I never had watched an anime before, but the voice acting was superb. I really felt like I was watching these characters. It was so hard to believe that you could get so connected to characters especially when they aren't even in full-motion most of the time, just pictures moving. But then I started thinking about old school video games. The graphics weren't believable, even back to the 8bit days of Mario you still felt connected to the characters regardless of how real or fake they looked. The fact that an anime like Bleach isn't the best looking full-motion style story, it makes them put a lot of emphasis on the actual writing / story and acting. I can now say that one of the highlights of my weeks is when I get to watch the latest episode of Bleach. I've watched all 261 to date including all movies and even the OVA's.
So this brings me up to date, where does Final Fantasy XIII tie into all this? Now being more open to this style of game, I watched videos about it. I always knew Final Fantasy games were beautiful, I've watched Eric play them and watched videos and they are always gorgeous. So for one, I wanted to try out this game because I knew it would look awesome on my new 55" TV. Of course I was right, it is probably the best looking game I've ever played..And that's the compressed Xbox 360 version. I bet it looks even better on PS3 uncompressed Bluray. Aside from looks, I am still surprised that I have gotten into the game as much as I have...I am hooked!
I love the fights. The system keeps growing as the story progresses, right now it's getting really complicated and I feel like I need Eric or someone to really show me how they do it, so I have some clue of how I am supposed to be fighting. But regardless, it is full as hell to jump into a battle and kick some ass! And the story is absolutely amazing. Reminds me Bleach. I feel connected to these characters and honestly that's all it takes for me to fall in love with a game, movie, TV series, etc.
I have to thank Eric for turning me on to these types of games and shows. I can tell Final Fantasy XIII is going to be played for quite some time. I can't wait to get the game done and be able to power-up my character completely eventually. I want to get a super weapon or something like that, I'm sure such thing probably exists.
