Happy 4th of July, America!I'm glad you're all independent and stuff. To celebrate this momentous day, please enjoy our classic RT Short whereupon me and Burnie ponder the origin of Independence Day, among other things.
kintama there would be classes that cover american history not sure if as a specific subject but definitely not in the Australian high school system, though considering i'm not surprised. As for at uni possibly it wouldn't be something that would fit into my degree so i wouldn't know
I showed this to my Soc. class 2 months ago and they loved it! I love RT so much, I find myself advertising it as much as I can. (IE: Doing a PPT on Burnie and making a big RvB trailer for my Computer Class.)

Well yes; that's basically how they all died. Thomas More refused to accept King Henry VIII's second marriage, and was tried by a panel including Thomas Cromwell and Thomas Cranmer (although it took years to get it out of him; he was too loyal to actually say it until they got somebody to lie in court so they could hang him. He only announced it on the scaffold steps). Thomas Cromwell fell out of the King's favour soon after, largely (we think) because of the mess he made of More's accusation and trial. Everybody hated him so much that they got the worst headsman they could find, got him drunk the night before and blunted his axe. It took 40 hits, before the guy had to finish him off with a butcher's knife. Thomas Cranmer lasted much longer; the first Grand Primate of the Church of England (having converted from Catholicism to move with the times), he then tried to convert back to Catholicism under Mary (after she made him watch two of his friends burn at the stake) but she was having none of it. He was tried in (Ironically) St Mary's Church in Oxford and burned at the stake in Broad Street. He apparently placed his right hand in the fire first, declaring that he'd never truly meant to convert back to Catholicism.
It's a thoroughly interesting period of history, and I'd highly recommend that you watch Robert Bolt's play/film about it 'A Man for all Seasons'

JJBrazman- I'll admit its war profiteering, and its pretty much an accepted fact that WWII brought the USA out of the great depression. Also yes, if we were going to fight for our own survival it certainly was a lot easier with the UK as a jumping off point for the allies to invade Europe (it'd be next to impossible without that). I'm not discounting the people or nations involved in ALL of the allied effort OR saying all our motives were right, nor were the end results (opening the nuclear Pandora's box). However, I'll maintain the fact that the USA's capacity to gather raw materials, manufacture the tools of war, and deliver those tools with well trained men to the enemy was second to no nation on Earth (at the time). That's definitely something we've lost, and many Americans lament it.
As for the comments about the original level of rudeness in my comment, I'll admit I was quite drunk at the time (it being the 4th of July) and Ben fucking makes me angry. Also, I said I wasn't dumb American, but I can completely admit to being a loud pushy asshole sometimes. Cheers :)
All is forgiven. Being a proud Australian (my intelligence level is debatable so I won't mention it) myself, I too know the strange allures and tricks the wizard of booze can play on ones mind. May you enjoy your coloured explosions and re-painting everything red white and blue good sir.
I don't get why they did this. I would like to see you quiz them on British history. It's so much more that it would be harder to remember everything seeing as England has been around for thousands of years.
Honestly, I don't remember being taught anything about the Britts other than how it related to America specifically, so if this was reversed we would probably know almost nothing. It's the American way.
AMERICA RULES!!!
AMERICA ***** 5stars england 1* star ... thats somthing england would say thier so dumb

Still a buttload of history though.
