LIVE NOW: The Patch #5

gus Cast & Crew
Podcast 185 (LIVE STREAM) and 1 year of RTAAJust another typical Wednesday with a new podcast...but what's this? This week marks the beginning of our live stream podcast. We stream the recording of the podcast at 7:30PM Central time on Tuesdays for sponsors and that audio becomes the normal audio podcast you've all come to know and love.

This week was our first go at it and I think it went well, but of course there were some issues. The number one priority for us is obviously to improve audio quality. We had some equipment malfunctions that caused the quality to become degraded but we are working on solutions to fix it for next week. We also had some issues with too many people in the chat room talking to us which caused chat to be difficult to read. We're reworking on a new solution for this as well.

I'd also like to take a moment to thank this week's podcast sponsors Shutterstock.com and Audible.com.

The RTAAs hit a milestone this week. It was one year ago this week that we started releasing the Animated Adventures as an official Rooster Teeth video series on this site. This week's RTAA is a story about Michael getting locked out of his apartment. After watching this week's RTAA you should stop by Jordan's profile and congratulate him on working so hard on the RTAA and never missing a week of content. Thanks Jordan!

Suggestions:

1) Use the computer more often (how Jack was using it)

2) Prerecord video commercials of sponsors to give yourselves breaks and better convey their promotion

But this was outstanding, wish I could watch it live but I think my college proffessors wont be too happy if I did lol

I think I going to have to become a sponsor now. I mean.... it's $10 for every 6 months (or $20 a year.)

All in all, I believe it was a very successful launch of the livestream podcast. You guys are already aware of the most critical issues and it's been proven in the past that everyone will work their butts off to make the next round even more enjoyable.

Regarding the chat issue, the custom hashtag on Twitter process is pretty solid at least from how I've seen you guys utilize it. Another suggestion I have is something I saw used on Vokle. I was part of a chat/livestream featuring Felicia Day and she relied on the mods to pick out questions from the chat that she could answer. So if you have chat mods that you trust, it'll take some of the responsibility off from you guys having to keep an eye on questions from the chat.

Looking forward to next week! Fantastic work as always Gus.

Podmaster Gus, Do you think these live streams will have a negative effect on your itunes downloads and ratings, or are a few thousand people a week insignificant compared to your usual amount of downloads? I mean, I downloaded it from itunes anyway after watching the live stream but I don't know how many people do the same.

Request here! Is it possible to post the GMT time that it will be posted? SURPRISE!! Not all of the would be viewers are in America. I would not have made it anyway but it would have been nice to know without having to look up the time zone you guys are in and then calculate the difference.

They should split the chat into 2 rooms, one for discussion and one for asking questions.

I not sure if anyone mention/thought of this but instead of a landline to call in to the podcast when this happens you could try something like skype.

corsair Well crap
Question - would it be possible to record the stream and then offer it up to Sponsors as a type of Catch Up system?

That would be great for us International people.

I feel that this would be awsome if not for one thing. I live in england. 19:30 in texas is 1:30 in the morning in england. I know the largest number of listeners live in the USA but I feel that this is not very fair for overseas listeners (especially sponsors). I would love to takepart in the chat but doing it on a tuesday means that I need to be up early for work the next morning.

This is the reason comments in general are such a pain to read through, sifting through the bullshit of "1st", unrelated topics, and memes. Pointless fucking comments and questions, losers begging for shout outs, fuck em. Ban those motherfuckers for a month from the chat or limit chat to 2 comments per user per stream. Chat has such great potential with the live podcast stream. It would be shame to see it go to waste.

Worst. Pod Cast. EVER! I felt like I was listening to the audio from a poorly produced tv show. I don't have an hour and a half to sit in front of my computer and watch a tv show. I listen to the podcasts while I'm at work so it's all audio for me, I couldn't get more then 20mins in before I was done. The audio quality is the worst its ever been everyone was talking over each other and I missed half of what was being said. In my book this new podcast format is a huge failure.

Ok buddy, they might read this and think they've made a huge mistake spending all their time and money on all the new equipment and give up trying out the new format after week 1 and go back to the old way.

I'm not saying that because one fan complained they're going to change. I'm just voicing my opinion...and if you noticed, I'm not the only one.

I watched about 30 minutes live and then came back the next day. As I am sure everybody knows, audio quality took a big hit. The issue with those "lav" style mics is that they are clipped off on your chest which is a really poor position to be able to pick up sound of someone talking. To pick up anything you have to raise the levels so high that they pick up and blow out the sound from every little movement .

After listening to the audio, let me say that the podcast has some pretty hairy guys. We should rename Jack's beard to something like, "Beardo, Destroyer of Sound."

There are some very nice mics that attach over the ear and rest close to the cheek that should work much better. Just make sure to get some that don't interfere with the beer drinking. :)

what will this mean for the future of animated adventures being able to compare actual reactions to stories that Jordan will animate? It sounds awesome in the future!!

Wish I could see this. Oh well, I guess I only have to use one sense to get my weekly dose of lulz. Because putting a z instead of an s at the end of a plural is "neat" and "hip".

Wow 1 year of RTAA. That doesn't seem possible. Feels like just yesterday JayorDan23 was making these on his own time, asking the fans to help him come up with ideas on what to make the next adventure about. I was lucky enough for him to make a RTAA/DTAA based on the one I suggested about Geoff and his expert parenting skills. Thanks Rooster Teeth and Jordan and here is to more years of Podcasts and Animated Adventures.
