No. 1: An Introduction
Hello to anyone who cares to read this. My name is Rigdon. This will be my first journal entry , and what better topic than that of socialism. I met someone recently who claimed to be a socialist. When asked what kind, she replied that she was a Marxist Socialist. I would like to clarify the fallacy in this statement. Nether Karl Marx nor Friedrich Engels was a socialist. They were both communists. According to them, socialism would be the system of government that succeeded capitalism, but was destined to develop further into communism. Communism is a system of government in which the state controls all means of production and a single party, usually authoritarian, holds all power while claiming to make progress toward the greater good. This is not socialism. In socialism everyone would achieve a sense of brotherhbood and actually make progress toward the greater good. People's choices would be their own. However, in today's society, and almost definitely in the future, this ideology can not exist. Greed runs rampant, and our nature dictates that we need too be better than as many people as possible. Socialism is an awesome ideology, but that's all it is. It can not exist.
