Right handed/Left handed: There is currently an idea in cognitive neuroscience that helps explain handedness with respect to the last several weeks of gestation and how you were born. During the last several weeks the fetus drops and usually orients with the head down (most of us come out head-first). This position tends to expose the right ear to sounds outside the womb and also allows more room for the right hand/arm to react to stimuli while the left ear is against the abdominopelvic wall and the left hand/arm is more restricted in movement. So if you came out head-first then you're probably right-handed and right ear dominant because that was the side exposed to more stimuli and with more room for movement. If you came out feet-first then you're probably left-handed and left-ear dominant because that orientation would have positioned the left side of the fetus facing the outside world. Ask around to see if this is the case for any of the lefties! No one actually knows yet what handedness really means, though.

The reason most people are right hand is that left handed people were for a long time thought of as wired or evil. The Latin word left was sinister. Many in the medevial aged were force to switch or be a named heretic as it was though to be the sign of the devil. That why I think there is such a disparity between the two, because it was probably 1 out of ever 5 people were left handed way back when with the cavemen now it's 1 in 10, Cultural Darwinism. The real reason reason however is the way the brain is set up, incedently handedness docen't dictated which eye is dominate which is about 60% right 30% left 10% both or none.
