Better late than never?
I'll admit, I haven't watched a single episode of RvB, or anything RT related in... oh hells.. years? I think the last time I can remember doing so was ... you know, I can't remember.

Anyways... I logged back on out of sheer curiosity and am amused (and pleased) to see my account has survived the trials of time and updates and all that. So.. well.. figured I should update, not that anyone even remembers me anymore.

Whoo boy... in the last 3 years eh?

I got a job in Austin working for a biotech company doing Phase 0 in vitro studies on possible new drugs. I worked there for 2 years. Almost to the day. My interview was on July 7th 2006, and my first day was that next Monday, the 10th. My official final day was June 30th, 2008. Just 10 days shy of a full 2 years.

I left because I was going back to school to get my Ph.D. I applied to.... too many schools in the fall of 2007/Winter2008 and got 4 interviews in return:

1) University of Georgia - Genetics
2) University of Kansas - Molecular Biosciences
3) Vanderbilt University - Interdisciplinary Program (think all the biological sciences put together)
4) University of Kansas Medical - Interdisciplinary program

From those 4, I got 3 acceptances. Though one was to one I didn't get an interview at.

1) University of Georgia
2) University of Kansas
3) University of Hawai'i - Cell and Molecular Biology

All three were good offers and it hurt turning two of them down. Really really hurt. A lot. I wish i could have gone to all three. But in the end I chose to go to UGA.

So, as a reward to myself for getting in to grad school, I took a 2 1/2 week vacation overseas. Completely alone. I spent time in London, Dublin, and Athens (I figured if I was going to spend 5 years of my life in Athens, Georgia.. I might as well see Athens, Greece while I could)

Came home... spent 2 weeks packing, and on August 1st 2008, I started the 1049.6 mile drive to my apartment in Athens.

As of now I've officially passed my first two semesters. I'm currently doing a 4th rotation to see where I want to end up working for the next 4-5 years.. and I probably will stay in the lab i'm currently in, if they'll have me.

I still live alone. Except for 2 cats that keep me company, and occasionally keep me from teetering over the edge into insanity. Sadly, they don't do much for insomnia.. which is why it's nearly 5am and i'm still awake. Stress does nasty things to a body.

Other than that, nothing much else to report. If anyone is still listening of course.. .
