Wow, has it been that long? So, it's apparently been at least a year since I've written one of these (although it's colossally obvious that no one reads these). Anyway, I haven't really been doing much the last few weeks (aside from finals), but now that it's summer (although only for another week in my case, considering I should be starting an internship at Arcelor Mittal at the end of May), I've been trying to go back and complete a couple games. Specifically, I've been dipping back into Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, although I barely got anything done in it before L.A. Noire hit a couple days ago, so I guess I'll go ahead and ramble about that for a bit, and call it a journal.
So far (I'm only just finished with the Traffic Desk), L.A. Noire has been pretty fantastic (although I'm really terrible at telling when people are lying). The facial rendering is the absolute best I've seen in a video game (not counting pie in the sky tech demos), and I'd love to see it implemented in more games. Even though it's obviously integral to the gameplay in L.A. Noire, I hope every developer out there is at least looking into it. But more importantly, I hope this leads to more games having actors cast for both their voice and their appearance. I really think that's the huge leap that more game devs need to make to really push the acting in games forward. Unfortunately, that topic will have to wait for another time, as I've got to be going, but here's hoping that I actually keep up the posting on these journals. If not, I'll see you nonexistent readers in 2012.
