31 year-old female from Fayetteville, NC Sometimes I really want to answer this. But what can I possibly say about myself without sounding like an ego driven bitch. Well, if people really wanna know about me, just ask. | Latest Post | |

Holiday greetings.... You know, the holidays are suppose to be a special time of year. The time when families are joined harmoneously together to give thanks and just enjoy each other's company.
I say HORSESHIT!!! I don't mean this in the way that I hate being with my family, but during the last few years, I've come to realize certain things about the holidays.
Because I'm in the military, I've spent a few holidays in the land of sand. My first deployment consisted of me spending Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years and my birthday in a shit hole. That was 2005. Before then I spent most of those holidays abroad at my first duty station in Japan. Those were fun... being drunk with co workers and partying in Tokyo. I learned that all you need is a good phone call back home to loved ones. Spending time away from you family during the holidays often times makes them realize how much you're a valued family member.
Take this year for instance. I deployed this past August and am still over here. I spent Thanksgiving in a crowded chow hall surrouned by Lt Cols, Chiefs and fellow aircrew members. Now while my first thanksgiving in the desert sucked, this one wasn't too bad. The turkey wasn't dry (or processed) and the ham was very moist and juicy. While the stuffing always leaves something to be desired, I still had my cranberry sauce. It was great. When I asked my sister what she and my mother did for turkey day, she told me they went to her mother in laws house. Hmmm sounds like I had the better end of that deal. Before I left for this deployment, I think my family didn't really fully understand how much they need me around. My sister learned to start doing things on her own and is whining to me to come back soon. My mother can't stay away from toxic men when I'm not around. For some reason, I'm the sane one of my family and the world goes to pot when I'm away. Well, I'll be home in a couple weeks and everyone is going to really appreciate me now.
I know I sound like I'm rambling, and I kinda am. It's the last home stretch for me out here and I can't wait to come home.
Happy Holidays!
