Tales from a Mediocre Gamer
I've been playing some more Gears 3 beta this weekend, a few games here a few there, I think I'm up to about 25 to 30 games played so far, and getting better! I was the top scorer on my team in one game! ME! With the top score! I've been having a blast though, and getting the hang of the Lancer and the Gnasher, I feel like I am contributing to my team for a change. Early in the week it felt like I was just being dragged along by my teammates. But no more!!
Just a couple thoughts until I get to story time. I love love love Capture the Leader. Favourite game type so far. Epic's take on team deathmatch is wicked fun, but its just straight forward killing. I like to have a reason and a purpose behind my killing, it's why i prefer Battlefield, and Team Fortress over Call of Duty. King of the Hill is great so long as your not up against a party of friends. If you are, you just seem to get rolled, it feels easier for a bunch of randoms to be competitive in Capture the Leader.
Story time, so this was actually a King of the Hill match, just a whole group of randoms and it was a really fair back and forth fight. This is going to be the game where I topped the boards. So we all spawn on Trenches, and everyone runs down into the middle the first hill spawn was at the raised platform in the middle. I kind of delay myself a little letting the COG forces hit the hill first. A guy starts to cap the hill just as I round the corner, I spot him and rev my Chainsaw REEEERERERERERERE! SAWED! Point captured! Everyone is fighting down below and I just start hitting them with my Lancer downing them and then dropping them from above, they don't realize I'm there as our points tick up and up and up.
We fight on they cap some hills, we cap some hills, but always throughout the map the ROAR of my Chainsaw is forcing the COG back every time I start to flank them while they are engaged with my teammates. A little bit later the hill is in the middle bottom. The COG have secured it and are pushing for the win. So I somehow mange to get control of the platform and we JUST had a mortar spawn, Pick up, set down, LAUNCH! BOOMBOOMBOOMBOOMBOOMBOOM! I take out like 3 guys protecting their hill, as my team moves in for that cap, I put the Mortar back down power it up and take out the 2 guys sniping from the Oneshot spawn!
We're up by 30 points, and have like 20 left for the win when I have the hill spawn right beside me in bottom Grenade spawn with 2 Incendiaries. I grab them, Tag them to the walls as mines and cap the hill. I'm hiding out my Gnasher waiting, BOOM! BOOM! I down and then kill the one guy who had a chance at stopping the cap after those mines went off, and my team behind me Lancering them down. We win the map and I'm tops of my team and I get all these ribbons for all my Chainsaw executions, I must of gotten like 7 or 8 throughout the course of the game at least.
