Now that we've handled that, let's get on to the story.
Some brief history about my mom; she loves historical books. They don't have to be pure fact, but anything that takes place in ye olde times is right up her ally. Her favorites are books that take place in medieval times of England, Scotland, and Ireland.
Well recently my mom became the proud owner of an iPad. They're a match made in heaven, the iPad and she. Oh the fun they have; playing games, checking emails, and reading books. The latter seems to be the most enjoyment my mom is getting out of her new acquisition.
Well to try to get to the meat of the story, my mom calls me today to complain about the new book she bought. She goes on about how she thought it was about the Scottish war for independence and would involve the tales of the Scottish Braves and many battles fought, tears shed, and dreams realized. However, as she got deeper into the folds of the pages, she began to realize that the book was not at all what it seemed.
The following is a verbatim recounting of the conversation I had with my mother today about said book.
Mom: "I just don't get it! This book doesn't make any sense!"
Me: "Wait...what book?"
Mom: "The book I bought yesterday on my iPad. It's supposed to be about the Scottish war for independence but it's not making any sense. It's getting kind of supernatural."
Me: "Supernatural? What do you mean? What's going on in the book?"
Mom: "Well the main character is talking about having to find others like him and stuff. And he keeps saying that he's immortal."
*few seconds hesitation as the word 'immortal' stirs something in my mind in relationship to Scotland*
Me: "Mom...?"
Mom: "Yeah?"
Me: "What's the name of the book?"
*sound of a book being closed and turned over to see the cover*
Mom: "Highlander."
She was completely serious and had no inclination that the book she held was more than just a novel counterpart of a T.V Show and Movie. This was a genuine moment of completely media ignorance.
And this...was arguably one of the greatest moments of my life.
