    • Not Ok - RWBY Season 3 Finale *Spoilers*

      Agent_Cain

First of all. I haven't really been active on here much because I've been dealing with a lot of stuff in my personal life lately. I don't know if I even need the spoiler tag because I doubt anyone still follows me or anything. However, after watching the season finale of RWBY I had to get on here and write something so if you haven't watched it yet don't read any further.

I need to start by saying that Pyrrha was my favorite charter in RWBY and was one of my favorite characters of all time, in any show. I have been struggling with depression for a while now and seeing Pyrrha in action and how supportive she was of her teammates (especially Jaune) always helped keep me together. Her character really motivated me and any episode with her in it always put me in a better mood and helped me cope with my personal struggle. It sounds weird to say it but with her gone I honestly am going to have a harder time keeping myself together.

I was expecting a character to die this episode and I really thought it was going to be Ozpin because of how they left off last episode. I felt they were going to "Dumbledore it" and have his death be the railing cry for all the students. However, I knew Pyrrha was doomed when she kissed Jaune goodbye but I still don't want to believe it and I'm still in denial about it. Her character was an inspiration to me and I wouldn't have been nearly this affected had any other character died.

I saved the finale for today (even thought I could have watched it yesterday) and though I finished it over an hour ago I have just been sitting here staring at my monitor this entire time. I can't remember the last time a character death has affected me this much and its going to make fighting my depression a lot harder. I had a lot of plans for today but now I'm just going to try and unwind from this and keep myself together.

I'm not blaming anyone at RT for any of my depression though or for even how low I'm feeling right now. They have done an amazing job with RWBY, like much of their other works, and I want them to keep working hard on it as I will still be watching it without a doubt. The fact that I loved a character this much is a testament to their creative talent and to Monty's vision. So, for now I'm just going to have to take words to heart of someone else who was always an inspiration to me and keep moving forward.

    • Mixed Feelings

      Agent_Cain

As luck would have it I'm celebrating RT's 11th anniversary by going through one of the most confusing and frustrating emotional experiences in years. I'm still kind of in shock from the whole thing, despite how its something I should have expected. Right now I've just been dreading how terrible I'm probably going to feel once the shock wears off over the next few days. However, despite all these mixed, and pretty much all negative, feelings I can say that the first laugh I've gotten all day was from watching an AH Let's Play. It just goes to prove, which I find entirely fitting given their anniversary today, how wonderful RT has been over the past 11 years and I can only sit here and thank them for all of it. I need more laughs in my life, now more then ever, and am so appreciative of the ones I've gotten today.

    • Back from Basic and Life Update

Well I've officially graduated as an Infantryman and am finally back from Ft. Benning. It honestly feels great to be home after being gone for almost 4 months. I am a National Guard member so its nice that I actually get to stay home now that I'm back (aside from any deployments that may come my way). I do hate to say it though but the class I had was apparently one of the worst to come through there in a long time. A lot of the trainees were very selfish and lazy and it kinda depressed me a lot. However, I am happy to say that there were still some very well squared away and motivated personnel that I had the honor of training with and I hope to see them again in the future. And hearing my Drill Sergeant tell me at graduation "I hope to see you again on the line" made all the struggle worth it. Overall, basic gave me a new perspective on life and has me appreciating the little things even more. I also learned that I am much more capable at overcoming obstacles than I thought and have gained a lot more self-confidence. I joined to server my country but also to gain back the part of me that I lost and I am happy to say that over those 4 months, I found myself again.

In general my life hadn't been going very well over the past few years and I was regularly depressed or just feeling empty on the daily basis. For once in a long time things are looking like they are finally coming together. It all started after I met a very awesome girl last year, who I'm hoping will end up as being more than a friend to me (I've honestly never been happier in my life than when I hang out with her). I finally picked up a good job, that pays me well and that I really love to do. I also proved to myself that I still have what it takes to win now that I've passed my Infantry training. And thanks to my new job, I finally have the money I need to get my own apartment again and will hopefully be moving back out in the next month or two. Also, as if that wasn't good enough I'll be going to PAX East this year, as I usually do, but I'll have about 12 friends from across the country attending with me and I can't wait to see them all. I am not used to having so much to look forward to and it really is a fantastic feeling.

Anyways, I'm really happy about how my life has been lately and with any luck I can finally take it the direction I want and do what I really love with my life. A lot of people in this community have been there for me over the years and the creativity here has always been an inspiration to me. Hopefully, this year I can finally get myself together enough to start giving back.

    • Break from Basic

      Agent_Cain

      Hey everybody,

Sorry I've been out of touch for a while but I've been at Ft. Benning in GA for my Army training. I was originally working towards an military career several years ago but I decided against it since I don't like having to move around so often. However, my desire to serve others has always been really strong so I always felt it tugging at me to go back and try again. So last summer I signed with the Army National Guard. I did that so I will always be based near my home (aside from when I actually deploy to combat). I started my basic training at the beginning of November and I will be graduating in March. Right now I'm on 2 weeks of leave from Christmas (got home today) and will be returning to training after New Years.

Overall, its been a good experience. It can be a bit rough at times but its mostly all mental, although I do need to work on my running a little bit. So anyways, I'll be around for a bit now but I wanted you all to know not to worry if you haven't heard anything from me in a while (and don't for a bit longer).

    • My 5 Years

      Agent_Cain

Well I'm dumb and forgot to post this yesterday but I just hit my 5 year anniversary of being a member of this site. I haven't really been active in the community lately but I hope to change that in the coming year. I've been a fan of RT and RvB for years before I finally joined but it really is cool to think that I joined right when Achievement Hunter started kicking off. It's really amazing to see how far that has come. From a few guides and a couple videos to releasing 5 Lets Plays in a week (and sometimes more) plus boat loads of other content. I'm really happy to have been able to watch all that unfold. Very proud of the AH guys and RT as a whole.

I've been following RvB since Season 2 and it's weird to think that next year I will have been an avid fan for 10 years. I wish I could mention all the things I've loved over those years but you'd be here all day lol. I'm very happy to be a part of this community as it's really changed my life thanks to a few very special people. I've been dealing with a lot of problems over the years and I'm still far from winning but I still smile thanks to a few amazing people, and some of you are members of this community and RT staff. I just had to take this time to thank the people who've literally changed my life. I've been able to thank some of you in person and someday I'll make it to RTX to thank the rest of you but regardless if you've heard me before, you're all getting it today :P

So thanks to @SailorTweek for being so nice to me and being such a wonderful example of how to connect with the community and treat it like a loving family. You make me want to give back. Thanks to @BuckeyeDon for starting me off on my sponsorship 3 years ago (which I have continued to this day save for a month or two between renewing). I've got to pass on that torch someday. Thanks to @Burnie (and everybody that's worked on RvB over the years) for writing such an incredible story that makes me laugh and feel more emotion than most things in my own life. Each season of RvB reminds me how much I want to be a writer. Shout-out to @Ray for being the first Achievement Hunter who I can really relate to, via your honest personality, lifestyle, and unique sense of humor. I've always loved AH but I simply can't miss a video now that you're onboard. An incredible huge wonderful thanks to Blawn...I mean @Barbara :P for just being a constant source of inspiration and keeping me laughing with all your great puns (yes you read "great puns' correctly :P). Your love for the community is infectious; it keeps me going and caused me to meet some great people through your old tinychats, like @Bleu_Ace and @Fthreat (which also let me experience awesome moments like a live talk with Burnie and a great late night chat that ended with @Gavino falling out his chair for no reason). And lastly, I don't know how often you've been visiting lately but thanks to @SgtDestroy for being my writing partner and always being there for me. You're one of the best friends I've got and you know I couldn't have done it without you Ash.

Looking back on everything that's happened over the years, the people I've met and the emotions I've felt, I cannot think of what my life would be like without you people and all of RT in my life. It's affected me so much so that I know I'd be an entirely different person without you and I'd honestly be the worse for it. Burnie has said that so long as people keep wanting RvB they'll keep making it. Well I guess they are going to be working on it till the day I die because I'll never stop being a fan.

    • Xbox One or PS4?

      Agent_Cain

I'll start this off by saying I have been a die hard Microsoft fan for years (well before the Xbox was even a thing). I play PC mostly but I always had a console so I could still have that experience and enjoy some sweet exclusives. I used to always have Nintendo products but when the Wii came out I felt that they were stepping away from the core gaming audience and I moved to Xbox because they seemed to really support my kind of gaming.

When the Xbox One and PS4 were first hinted at I was 100% sure I was going to buy the new Xbox because of the great experience I had on 360. They started talking about how it is an "all in one" entertainment device and I just got more and more excited. I stream a lot of content and I don't even use cable and I've honestly always wanted somebody to make a device like this. I was all set to give Microsoft my money until they started to talk about all of their "features" and then I had to question if I really wanted to give them my money. Always on connectivity, not being able to easily trade used games and to have to pay a fee to install them (even after you already purchased it). Devs not being able to self-publish (which would normally prevent games like Minecraft if they hadn't bent rules just for Mojang). I was also concerned about the always on Kinect as well.

Microsoft later came out with some statements about the Kinect, saying you can actually turn it off. This makes me feel better but they still haven't been 100% specific about how its works. They then came out saying that the used game and always on connectivity issue would be up to the devs of each game. Then they said your Xbox would have to connect every 24 hours just to make sure you're not a pirate, or every hour if you're on a friend's Xbox (because having friends clearly means I'm more likely to steal). They kept changing their words on everything and honestly none of it sounded that great. Even after the Xbox One reveal I still wanted direct answers to those questions. I figured I'd understand it all after E3 and could finally make my decision.

I watched E3 yesterday (both the Sony and Microsoft Press conferences) and Microsoft showed off some sweet games and they all looked awesome (really want to get my hands on Halo 5, Quantum Break, and Titanfall) but they never addressed any of the concerns I had. They spent the entire time showing off games, which is awesome, but they never bothered to clear up the console features and it honestly seemed like they just wanted to avoid that conversation all together. I was still starting to lean back to MS because of the awesome game line up but I wanted to see what Sony had to offer (who was being very quiet about all their features).

Sony opened with stuff about the Vita and their entertainment offers (which was ok but didn't get me too excited). Things started to pick up when they brought out the PS4 and they finally showed what it really looked like. The game line up looked good but I was still slightly learning towards Xbox One until right at the end Sony delivered their knockout punches. PS4 requires no internet connection, you can trade and play used games however you want, devs can self publish, and its all $100 less than Xbox One. I hate to say it but as much of an MS fan as I am I'm 90% sure I'm going to be buying a PS4 now. Just as I moved to Xbox when Nintendo left the core gaming audience, I feel that now I'm going to have to leave Xbox for Playstation.

What are your thoughts on this? Anybody change their mind because of E3? or sticking with your original decision?

      Agent_Cain

I suspect if you are reading this you already know about it but I decided to post a journal in the hopes that I might reach a few people who haven't heard. Long time community member KnucklesDawson (David Dreger) has been reported missing. We are asking people to spread the word about it as much as possible, especially for those in the local area of Vancouver BC. More information can be found over at this journal: roosterteeth.com/members/journal/entry.php?id=3029620

SailorTweek has pretty much been heading the community response to this and has several more journals regarding updates and more information. Please refer to them for ways to help and for information updates.

Too true, this is why legitimate, deeply woven stories and characters are important, and why I am growing to to ignore generic action movies in favor of dramas.

Oh yes, my friend. Penny Arcade is my second love to RoosterTeeth (And Mega64)! Jerry's writing influenced me to try to exploit the english language at any given opportunity :P I simply love them both, and I wish they would recommence the old podcasts. I like PennyArcadeTV as well, but the podcasts just kicked so much ass because they were raw and unfiltered!

Penny Arcade is simply beautiful to me, the perfect gamer's view on video games, a viewpoint which is rarely seen, to be honest.

No problem, it's good for me too! Yes, Evangelion is an excellent series, I highly recommend you watch the 26 episodes. There is quite a bit, particularly near the end of the series, that focuses on exactly what you speak of.

Perhaps it is just escapism, but having personal feelings mirrored in an on-screen character just feels medicinal, although at times depressing, as oftentimes watching them overcome their problems just makes it feel worse to still have issues. Even so, it makes us feel... not alone.

This is why I listen to the Drunk Tank every night when trying to sleep through my insomnia, it clears my mind from problems, and just lets me be a passive acquaintance.

The "You are my accuser" is one of my favorite bits. I also really like the way the music and Tucker running on the ruins turned out. I'm very pleased to hear that you caught some of those links! I really like the slo-mo scenes that I included...they fit to the timing of the music (or at least, I think so!) Some of them fit, some of them might not, and some of them might need a little defending...but I'm happy with the way that one turned out. it was difficult to fit music to action with footage that mainly consists of bobbing heads *LOL*

Ha, well I've already tried the military option and that really didn't go the way I planned... and anything aviation can be stressful, I've definitely been there. I've thought about other career choices, but any time I see a plane or a helicopter, I have always had a wish to be flying it myself.
