For many of us, Bionicle was more than just a line of toys. They were our role models, the igniters of our creativity and curiosity. I was in special Ed as a kid. Number of reasons. One was I couldn't read that well, but then bionicles had books. I loved bionicles, and I knew there was more to them then just the toys, so I got those books, and I read. A lot, and got better at reading than most people I knew. Bionicles helped me learn to read.
They also taught me the dangers of selfish goals and motivations, how a hero is someone who purs others before him/her. It taught me how in order for great goals to be accomplished, we must be together but not one, we must do our part, and if we do that, we will achieve what we were always meant to
In them, I saw metaphors for growing up that inspired me, and I also saw a rich world with culture, history, animals, and a hidden secret that blew my mind when it was revealed.
It was a hell of a thing. And they brought it back for a while. Their reboot was just not the same, but it captured the spirit of Bionicle. The feeling of heroism and nobility that a little child feels when hearing of heroes by a campfire. That is the spirit of Bionicle to me, and they did not fail to make me feel that.
Now Bionicle is over again. I feel many things. I feel let down, I feel sad, but I also feel hopeful, because they ended the reboot in a way that says it might come back. Not only that, but it was one hell of a heroic send off. So while I'm sad the reboot didn't last longer, I'm glad they didn't exactly fail in my eyes.
To unity, duty, destiny. The 3 words I live by, and will always live by.
I'll be back...
