It has to be if I am FU.

      Obligatory FU Journal

I came here over 8 years ago for the videos. I stayed for the only type of crazy you can find.

I was introduced to RvB about a third of the way through Season 2 by a friend who tossed me a disc with half of Season 1 on it (he thought I might like it). The next day told him I loved it and asked if there was more. He burnt what was out there and informed me that I would have to keep up with RvB on my own. There was one problem:

      I didn't have Teh Intertubes.

So, for the next 3+ seasons I had to seek out RvB on other peeps computers to get my fix.

"But  Buck, why didn't you have Teh Interbutts?"

Because I had the goal of paying off my house as Priority #1 and shunned luxuries (paid off in '08 - the day that I signed up here).

I have made a lot of friends here since then, and have met many of them. I've seen some go from high school through college and then onto a career. I've seen some go off to the military, some get married, some suffer tragic loss, and some find great success (pretty much on a daily basis).

You see, this place has become more than just a place to watch vids; it has become a very dynamic part of my life, one that I am passionate about.

Anyway, Thank You! for stopping by.

      Buck

Oh yeah, please leave a comment about a thing or two about you and RT if you have a moment.

      BuckeyeDon

So... I guess the game does have replayability.  For me, it's all about the challenge. So, per challenge by @Bryan (I think),  I went for the Soul Level 1 Challenge where you play the game without ever leveling up. The only class you can run is a Pyromancer, which suited me just fine since I just finished running one and was confident that I could complete the challenge if I could get past a few trouble spots (Centipede, Queelag, and those pesky archers in Anor Londo).  That is until it dawned on me that I could not effectively use my favorite weapon.

      The Long Bow of Pharis

Hell, I couldn't even use a standard Short Bow!

      WAT DO?!

Once again, the game forces you to get out of your comfort zone and adapt to something that may be awkward (like first date awkward).  It wasn't too much of a challenge using an axe instead of a sword (I would be missing the reach of Estoc), but learning to use a crossbow was downright maddening.

      Fuck that reload time!

However, adapt I did, and while it was maddeningly slow to reload, it didn't use up my stamina. I also did carry a Short Bow for long distance aiming (switching back and forth), and I did use the Pharis Bow for those pesky archers by plunking them with poisoned arrows.

Queelag was simply a matter of using NPC help while the Centipede was not using NPC help.

Two of the Bosses I had trouble with my first play through are now easy: The Hydra and That Damned Demon With Two Dogs.

The Hydra I simply rush to its front (using a bit of cover and timing) and plunk it from a safe spot.

He With Two Dogs is even simpler:  I fling poo over the wall thereby killing it with poison.

Other restrictions I placed on myself:

Use the clothes I started with (except for the Crown of Dusk)

      No Red Tearstone Ring

No Ring of Favor and Protection

I really shouldn't call these restrictions since I like to travel light (hardly wore my boots) and am too chicken shit to use the Red Ring. And while the Ring of Power seems awesome, I like using different rings at times (with the Doge ring being used pretty much all of the time since I block quite a bit).

One skill that I really need to work on is The Parry.

Anyway, I was able to complete my SL-1 run the other day, and may not play the game much more. There are a few other things that I want to check out, but the game has basically run its course with me.

Thanks goes to those who have followed my exploits and offered advice and encouragement. It is always great to have company when going on an adventure.

All your shirts have been replaced with a flannel shirt with a soft orange glow, a weightless black t-shirt, and a very dirty base-ball shirt that still smells alright. Which do you wear?

      Answered: Oct 20, 2016

I do like flannel, but with a glow? I'll pass. While I do like to stand out from time to time, I want to do it on my terms, not my shirt's.

I'm not into t-shirts much any more, but I do like that it is black AND weightless.

However, the baseball fan in me HAS to go with the very dirty baseball shirt, and I'll wear it with much pride.

Conditions and how green your thumb is made irrelevent, what one plant would you like to grow at/in your living space?

      Answered: Oct 12, 2016

Aloe Vera with Cannabis a very close second.  And yes, I have a very green thumb  and spend an immense amount of time working with the great out-of-doors and have done much with the in-of-doors plants.

As long as the likes of us have the tagging tool, and @capnbirdman is still alive, we shall make full abuse of such features.

And yeah, not too happy with the current alert system, but I'm holding out hope for the new layout. I am being quite patient for the layout and am in no rush for it. Just knowing they are working on it and taking their time is giving me the peace of mind and patience to put up with our current system.

I just hope they don't roll it out at the exact same time as the release of Season 12. One month before, or one month (or much more) after.

        Just not the same day/week.

For sure. I always loved personal comments! Except I don't like how the alerts are cleared for all personal comments because it can't distinguish between them when you're on the page.

Messages aren't that bad here, but the notification for them is weird.

Yeah Skype is great. Hopefully the new site will recapture what was lost, but it may be too late. Then again, this site can't be everything to everyone.

As long as @capnbirdman is alive and able to be tagged, the personal comments system will be used and abused. Probably.

It died off. DiMono decided to be cute and locked the thread. Sadly, you're the first one in 5 days to make mention of it. We have a Skype chat going on where most of the daily conversation takes place. The Season 11 and 12 threads have had much better conversation anyways.

I've thought about getting the thread unlocked, but there really doesn't seem to be much interest right now.

Life has gotten in the way of me doing any traveling. It's been quite interesting and challenging, and I'll save the stories for when I do get out that way. I will say that this year has been one of the greatest collection of business challenges I've ever faced, and I still don't know how things are going to shake out.

I find the entire situation quite exhilarating, and I may have had a most fortuitous turn of fortune today (not getting my hopes up, but...!).

If things turn out right, I'll be traveling again next year. Heck, even if they turn out 'wrong', I should be able to more easily travel next year.

It did take some time, but I use a spreadsheet for most of the heavy work. I copy/paste each page of the members list onto the sheet, add a bit of coding to prep for the sort, sort, code to sort for duplicates, then sort one last time and add a bit of coding to add the @ tag to each members' name. All in all it filled up about an hours worth of idle time.

For reasons that I cannot pinpoint nor quantify I have great confidence that this is not a fluke. I guess that the pace of the season is what give me hope, it feels as though it is going as fast as Recon with much happening in each episode (even the parts that are filled with good ol' RvB 'dumb').

Burnie seemed to let the awriting slide the last couple of seasons. The little that Miles added last season may have been the best (he did the Carolina flashback-to-York scene at the very least).

either way, eps 1-3 were OK. 4 and 5 got me excited like back in the olden days.

i love Caboose-Church. one without the other isn't quite the whole deal. turns out, Caboose trying to bring back Church works just as well. (or trying to bring in another new best friend)

Caboose took Epsilon with him from Freelancer City and that is (presumably) what was uploaded to Eyeball 3000. I am not of the opinion that what was found in Sheila is what was uploaded into E3K. There were also other AI entities in the Epsi-pod that may not have transferred over (again, my opinion) since we didn't see any evidence of them existing in Season 9.

And yeah, Ohio weather... I love the changing seasons, but the jungle can keep its type of rainy season. Although I will say that the rain has been great for the crops in these parts. The corn is phenomenal and the beans are starting to look pretty good.

Cos-playing, the closest I ever did was some SCA stuff while I was in the service, and have been fascinated by it at conventions, but just can't seem to gravitate to even a single character to cos-play.

Business has been slow this year due to second winter, construction, flooding, second construction, second flooding, and construction/flooding. But the end of it all is near and I'm doing OK to damn near fine.

I'm really loving the return to basics and dumb in RvB, it's what I fell in love with all of those years ago. I really like Miles' fresh hand at the story and the directing.

I don't always have Gold, and I'm considering dropping my home Internet for a few months. I tend to be too busy to play much on the console, so I see no need to spend the money for the premium services.

However, I do like to fire up the console from time to time, and if MS is going to insist that my console check in to play a physical disc (or even a digital copy) they can kiss my ass.

      • Fizz

Despite the fact that there's still much unsure or they're still working on it, most of these changes from the original statements seem for the better. Then again, it couldn't be worse, so those are easy points.

The giving away games part and not being able to play online are my main concerns just now. To me, it'd seem best if they can make a difference between physical disks and online purchased games. This way, if you have the disk, you can still play the game offline, but you can't do this with the digital copy, which you can only share with 10 relatives.

One of the big pro's is the 1 Gold per Xbox thing. Then again, PS has free online gaming, so there's that. Plus I'm mostly the only xbox player at home.

        USED GAMES

"We [MS] designed Xbox One so game publishers can enable you to trade in your games at participating retailers."

This wasn't made clear in the beginning, and it still isn't crystal clear. As of right now, there is not a system in place for you to trade your games in, but MS is working with retailers like GameStop to get a system in place, one where MS will be provided a fee for a used game transaction. You will have your ability to play that game on your console after trade in even though that game will still exist on your hard drive.

"Microsoft will not receive any money from these transactions."

This is not what I've read from official sources (like VP Phil Harrison) nor from direct conversations with GameStop. I will try to do a followup later.

        FIRST PARTY GAMES

"In our role as a game publisher, Microsoft Studios will enable you to give your games to friends..."

MS has stated that you will be able to give a friend a game, but that game can only be gifted once (your friend cannot give that game as a gift later) and that friend must have been on your Friend's List for at least 30 days.

        RENTING GAMES

"Loaning or renting games won’t be available at launch, but we are exploring the possibilities with our partners."

Microsoft and companies such as Gamefly are working on a system to make this work.

MS has stated this since the Xbox One reveal. I doubt that it will be available at launch.

        DRM--WHY?

" install your games to your hard-drive and have your entire library available to play without putting the disc in the disc tray.

This is why the 24-hour check is required.

The drawback to this is not being able to game offline. "

This is why I may not get the Xbox One.

        PRIVACY

"You are in control of when Kinect sensing is On, Off or Paused: If you don’t want the Kinect sensor on while playing games or enjoying your entertainment, you can pause Kinect."

Some people are upset that you have to have a Kinect just to use the X-1. Others feel that it is spying on them, especially since MS signed up with PRISM (the spying program that the NSA (National Security Agency of the US) back in '07. I understand that the Kinect can be used to spy on you and everything that it picks up can by stored by the NSA.

XBOX ONE- A GAME OF CIRCLES

"...you will be able to have a "circle" of friends, 10 people to be exact, that will be able to access your game library ... at anytime (as long as you or someone else in your circle isn't playing it)."

I do believe that this is true and think I have heard this from an official source. This is something that MS should have announced at the X-1 reveal and repeated loudly and clearly since then.

        ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

"...allow all users on one console to have gold by just one user having it."

This is the first that I have heard of this. This would be a huge incentive for a family to purchase an X-1 and go Gold.

Post any question you have here and I will get back to them as soon as possible.

Yeah, the Pumpers played the inflation card, end of the world as we know it card, and other forms of snake oil to get folks to drink the kool-aid and buy into the dream. Once the price bridged $1900, it was time for the Pumpers to turn into Dumpers leaving the kool-aid drinkers holding their bags of metals.

As far as currency and what it is based on, what are your thoughts about the faith-based currency, the USD, now that it is being propped up by the Fed's 'Quantitative Easing Until We Say So' at the tune of $84 billion a month?

      • Doddsoreric

        tits up is fine.

IMO the gold boom (and now bust) was caused by the misplaced belief that the USA would be hit by massive inflation. Some people think that gold price reflects what the real interest rate should be to get growth. As this is negative I actually agree with them now. Either way the evidence of the gold price just now pretty much shows that the gold standard would be subject to such forces. Not a good idea.

'Crash' would have been it going down below $1000, and it isn't so much a matter of putting a positive spin on it, but looking at it realistically.

It's a correction, and going back over the past 30 days, it doesn't even qualify as a correction (and that includes the 'crash' on Friday). Let's keep things in perspective, even I knew that $19XX was absurd. Heck, with Gold at $16XX it was pricey. Right now where it is at is much more in line where it should be (evidence to my belief is that I quit buying Gold when it was $13.XX)

        -----

With Maggie dead, how are you going to get your milk money back?

Hey Buck, life has been good. Busy but good.

I gotta love the fact you are calling the bursting of the bubble a "correction" when lets face it, it crashed. Gold the only thing with "value" no longer has the value it once did. And it looks like it is about to lose almost 50% of its so called value by the end of the year.

Anyways. Glad to see you are putting a positive spin on things. Oh and Thatcher died. That made me happy.

      • BuckeyeDon Crackpottist

Dodds! How the hell have ya been? Life treating you good? Yes? That's cool.

Thanks for stopping by my digital pad, it seems like ages.

How am I doing? It's been a bit of a roller coaster, but what is life without some challenges, right?

Anyway, you, of all people, would be the last person I would expect to have to explain the difference between a 'crash', and 'correction' (especially when it is a well anticipated correction).

I quit buying The Yellow back when it was $13XX because even a hack like me could recognize a speculative run up. Wasn't going to last and the higher it went the deeper the correction (not crash). Toss in Dodd-Frank imposing position limits and increased margin requirements for speculators it is no surprise that The Yellow has lost some of its luster.

It's still 5 times its value as compared to 10 years ago,

One man's 'crash' is just another mans 'buying opportunity'. I expected some sort of deep correction, but not until this summer.

And I am not surprised that speculators have moved away from The Yellow and The White and moved onto something more volatile.

        Like Bitcoin.

        BACON!

How have you been? It's been awhile.

  • Questions answered by BuckeyeDon

I do like flannel, but with a glow? I'll pass. While I do like to stand out from time to time, I want to do it on my terms, not my shirt's.

I'm not into t-shirts much any more, but I do like that it is black AND weightless.

However, the baseball fan in me HAS to go with the very dirty baseball shirt, and I'll wear it with much pride.

Aloe Vera with Cannabis a very close second.  And yes, I have a very green thumb  and spend an immense amount of time working with the great out-of-doors and have done much with the in-of-doors plants.

Such a simple question, but with many possible answers...

    First and foremost:  BACON!

    Otherwise...

If I was simply walking through life, I'd want a lady following me wearing the perfume called 'Opium'.  It is such a wonderful addition to her natural scent.

If I am going  out for the evening and wearing cologne, I'd be wearing Jordache.

If I am feeling a bit randy, I want just the natural body odor of me and my partner.

If I  am walking through the woods, I'll simply let nature do her thing.

If I am lazying about outside, the smell of fresh cut grass.

If I am lazying about inside, Ardbeg scotch.

If I am at the race track, the smell of burnt rubber and gasoline.

If I am going to bed, the scent of fresh sheets.

    ...

So hey, I gues I've never realized just how in tune I am with aromatics!  But again, at the end of the day, or at the beginning, or in the middle, or during the night, BACON (with a hint of fresh brewed coffee).

The Tesla Files (if such a thing were to exist).

The Mercury/Apollo Missions (with 'Behind the Scenes' footage and such)

    1940 Olympics

    Dream Series: Asimov's Robot/Empire/Foundation Saga

The thing is, with YouTube, you can get pretty much everything for free. I pretty much don't pay to watch anything broadcast today, nor catch free TV. I do have Internet, but no Cable, Dish, nor External Antenna to catch local stations. What little I caught of the Olympics this years was through casual happenstance.

I've probably spent about $400 on RvB (maybe more, but not much), but that is a series that is still available. I do have an unopened box set of the original Blood Gulch Chronicles though (which is no longer generally available).

    Living:

    Author: Stan Lee

    Work: #1 Spiderman

    Reason: Self-evident.

I've been a Spiderman (Technically, it's The Amazing Spider-Man) fan since childhood (born in '61) and Stan Lee is still doing his thing. I don't keep up with the comics at all any more (except in passing), but I still have great memories of looking forward to reading Spiderman at the store (didn't have the money to purchase my own copy). I'd also keep up with it in the Comics section of the newspaper (that section is what inspired me to learn how to read at a very young age).

    Dead:

    Author: Tesla

Work: The Inventions, Researches, and Writings of Nikola Tesla

Reason: I posess the book, which was a gift from a dear friend

I was torn between Tesla, Faraday, and Einstein (I'd go with an anthology of those, and others) and had considered Paul Dirac. Each of these visionaries have made great contributions to the world in which we live in, and I work in. If I worked with rocket science, I'd have Newton right up there. And yes, I had considered Hawking over Stan Lee, but I just couldn't resist having Stan (considering that I just saw Dead Pool for the first time Sunday night and he did a cameo).

Great question! Thanks for prompting my muse!

My current one, which sounds like a regular phone ring, along with a voice to tell me who is call, or the number of the caller if the caller isn't in my list. I would have to either leave the phone in the car when I go to the theater, or simply shut it off.

    /looks at user name/

Of course the first thing that comes to mind is THE Ohio State Buckeyes logo. However, after some pondering, I'd have it decorated with some things Electronic. On one side, I'd have [Michael] Faraday and the symbol for capacitance and on the other side I'd have [Nikola] Tesla and the symbol for a coil. On the bottom would be the symbol for resistance thereby giving me the three symbols for the components (RCL) for creating a resonant circuit. If there is appropriate room, I'd toss in the symbols for a crystal and a transistor. I would love to have a coaster/stand where whenever I place the shot-glass on it the base of it would light up and a light would shine and light up the shot glass.

    ...

    I guess I have a new project!

Movies: Star Trek immediately comes to mind. I'll be going to the theater to catch the next one. I don't have high expectations for it, but I've been following the franchise since it first aired.

TV Show: I had been avidly following Star Trek: The Next Generation avidly, but when Gene was no longer the driving force behind it, it became more soap opera-y and less science fiction action/adventure. The Britlandish show 'QI' really grabbed ahold of my interest and I'd watch past shows online at every evening meal. However, as far as keeping up with shows on actual TV, I don't even watch TV at home (haven't in years).

Online Show: I've been chasing Red vs Blue since the middle of Season 2.

Comics: I used to have a collection of The Amazing Spider-Man and still enjoy Calvin and Hobbes to this day. There's something truly timeless and epic with Calvin and his trusty sidekick Hobbes. I'm finding myself chuckling just thinking about Calvin's antics and their adventures.

Books: By far, at the very top of the list of ALL the things I've followed (regardless of specific medium) is Isaac Asimov and his Robots/Foundation/Empire works. The man was a master craftsman with presenting a series of epic stories and tying them all together. And I don't know which is more immense: His biography or his bibliography or his world wide accolades.

Honorable Mention: Most Honorable Mention goes to Tolkien's 'Middle Earth' works. If it wasn't for Asimov putting out more Foundation/Robot/Empire works in the latter parts of his years, Tolkien would be the run-away favorite.

Curiosity of Personal Note: I ran a Dungeons and Dragons world continuously for about 15 years with (generally) twice a week sessions. It's hard to get immersed into someone else's world when you are immersed in your own work. And it wouldn't have been possible without the input and creativity of a band of others.

If I can fill my shopping cart with ALL of the things: Provident Metals will have no Precious Metal inventory.

If it needs to be more singular, I may go with a lifetime all inclusive cruise package with someone like Windstar Cruises.

Perhaps a large enough endowment to pretty much make me a permanent student/faculty member of ETH Zurich – Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich

I'd be interested in getting a Lifetime Luxury Suite Package for the Detroit Tigers

But at the end of the day, and keeping in the implied spirit of the question, I'd have to get a lady-friend of mine a CD she lost long ago on a bike ride. Carole King - One on One. It is something that she would cherish forever

Rooster taking the time out to tell me in no uncertain terms that why a number of his fellow workers were no longer coming to me was that I wasn't spending enough quality time with them and their equipment. They felt like I was simply mailing in the service and didn't care that I wasn't charging for a basic bench check.

They wanted to pay me to spend quality time with them on not just a professional level, but also at a personal level (I had gotten to know these guys well over the past 20 years).

Rooster is a 'tell it like it is in no uncertain terms' kind of guy, and he pulled no punches when we had our talk. I'm so glad that he handled things the way it did because it left such a strong impression on me that I immediately went to taking more time with my clients and apologized to them for not being so attentive of late (I had been dealing with major life issues and was greatly distracted).

Thanks to Rooster not worrying about hurting my feelings, I returned to being the customer service guy that had made me successful in the first place. It wasn't that I was providing bad service, just not the level that they wanted and needed.

I absolutely do drive and would be lost without my wheels. I've owned over a dozen vehicles with my '68 Mustang as my absolute favorite. I miss my '85 Dodge conversion van, my '73 Ford pickup, and my '98 Neon (in no particular order). I am currently driving an '05 Taurus and am looking for a n old pickup.

I 'accidentally' created a unique world in Dungeons and Dragons, and most of the credit goes to the players.

I was tasked by a recently acquired friend to teach friends of his how to play the game (I had never even met these people). He was unable to attend the first session but coordinated the meetup. I was go to The Blue House (I would recognize it by color alone) and go to the side door. I would know I was at the right house if the window in the door had the Blue Oyster Cult symbol on it). I was then to simply knock and walk on in as though I belonged there. Characters were created and the basics of game play were established and some basic combat was had.

I was asked to return for another session, which I readily accepted.

My friend was able to attend the next one, and was quickly brought up to speed. I emphasized to everyone to take notes and ask questions, and to have anything of importance documented by me (for future reference and authentication of a character having an item/spell/whatever). We were ready to get the actual game going, when my friend asked:

"What is the name of the town?"

    'It's irrelevant, it's just a town" I replied.

    "How do you spell that?"

Thus, the world of Irrelevant was born, and for 15 years it grew and blossomed and took on a life of its own, with its own stories (which became back-stories years later), legends, and mythology. We basically did this twice a week, until my life had become too busy and the world too much for me to properly handle.

We still talk about this to this day... and it's been well over a decade since we played.

I've been able to recapture some of that game creativity in our Mafia games. I ran a series of games that culminated in one of the best Experimentals games. I even left breadcrumbs to the past games that would give clues to the nature of this game (two years in the 'making'), and it wasn't until the very end that they figured out the nature of the theme. The game had various twists and everyone had a special role, and I have to say that the players were the ones who carried the game to the great success that it was.

As far as creative hobbies goes, I've gotten into photo-shopping for a bit here on RT when Suppi and DaProphet had their Staff Wars going on. We would have a Staff member to use, and would post an image that had to have only that staff member in that pic. Any other staff member and you would be eliminated. You couldn't post two pics in a row, nor the same pic twice. I really learned how to use SeaShore during that time and then transferred that skill into charting Commodities (tech analysis can be more of an artistic ability and less than a technical one than what one would think).

Another way I've allowed my artsy side to show is through my spreadsheets. Not only would I bling them out for my own enjoyment, I'd use them to format text to allow me to creatively express myself in forums. Unfortunately, with the new site, I cannot do that here anymore.

One of my current ways I artistically express myself is through lawn art with the mower. I've always taken a bit of pride in how the lawn is cut, and the patterns you can come up with. However, 2 years ago a woman wanted something unique done to her yard and laughingly said she'd like a question mark put in. I told her I could make it so, and have maintained it since then, and recently added a raised outline to it which makes it pop out even more.

Watching you do your fan art here reminds me of some of the things I've done here and I wish I would have kept up with my 'Where in the Blue vs Red World' series where I schematically mapped out when and where each character of RvB was.

Sorry for being so late in responding, but I've been busy with life in general and Dark Souls in particular.

    Thanks for asking and listening!

I have favored wizardy types at times, and on occasion a necromancer. However, I've never played WoW. I tend to favor the Thief-type classes and my preferred weapon is usually the bow/sniper type of weapon.

I started playing Halo a few months after launch and played it dedicatedly up until Halo 4. I was all into doing Vidmaster Runs in Halo 3 and Endure challenges with anyone with a bit of skill. For a minute I became SLASO junkie and may go back and try to finish Cortana at the least and the other three to have them all under my belt. We even have a couple of Vidmaster Runs CLASO style.

However, the one game that has been able to draw and keep me away from pretty much any other game franchise is the Elder Scrolls Saga. A friend of mine tossed me a Morrowind disc many moons ago and finally one day I tossed it into the console and fired it up. I find myself a prisoner on a ship and then tossed into a processing station where I can create my character and am given a package. Then my ass is shoved out the door and I'm told to 'Have a nice life!'.

I look around and ask myself "What do?"

It was then that I really appreciated what Bethesda had created and have been hooked ever since. I just recently finished the main quests in Skyrim, which I've been playing since launch (basically five years and four months).

Now I'm grinding it out in Dark Souls.

Speaking of which, I here it calling me.
