June 22, 2015 - Back from the brink

Been quite some time since my last journal entry. A lot of things have changed. Still, some things remain the same.

I am no longer with my girlfriend. We realized it was not meant to be and so have gone our separate ways. I still think of her once in a while, and we still see each other sometimes when we attend our annual Anime North Convention we both help organize.

I have changed jobs again as well. Now I work for a car rental company and am quite fond of it.

I see quite a number of changes to the website have taken place, as well as a number of new videos that have been created since my absence. Don't know if I will be able to catch up on all of them but it is nice to see Red vs Blue still going on.

It's good to see that my account on Rooster teeth is still here and has not been deleted. I see names of people who I haven't seen or spoken to in years. I wonder if they remember me as I remember them. I found out by reading on the forums that there is a new Toronto event upcoming in July, Toronto:Unconventional. I think I will go to it and see if I can't get back in touch with the people I had so much fun with oh so many years ago. Hopefully even get involved with organizing future RvB events in Toronto too. Hopefully, they accept my help.

It has been a while since I had a genuine smile on my face, and after revisiting this site, seeing familiar faces and watching some very funny videos, I am quite thankful I can still do it.

Thanks RT for making me smile over the last 10 years.

      Hail Cobra!

      2013 Day 14 - Achievement Hunting

Work was the same nothing major there.

Went online on Xbox and hung out with some friends and unlocked a number of achievements for Halo 4.

Hopefully this will be the first Halo game I can complete every achievement. With enough help from my player friends this should not be a problem.

      2013 Day 12 & 13 - Weekend Update

So I had to work this past weekend for 2 different organizations.

On Saturday I had to go into my regular job for what was supposed to be a cake walk. No bosses, just me and the other inside sales guy. We were gonna take it easy, listen to a few tunes, and of course help any person that came through the door.

Instead, when I arrived at work I saw my boss there. He had said he wasn't going to show up, but at the last minute decided that he did need to come in to finish some things that he did not want to leave till Monday. That basically shot the easy day that I was supposed to have. I ended up doing a bunch of "busy work" to avoid sitting down and invoking any wrath that could have been directed my way.

I don't mind cleaning, but I reserve that to the last hour and a half of the work day for sweeping mopping and tossing out the trash. It helps the time fly that much faster for that last period. Unfortunately doing it all at the beginning just made the morning feel like an eternity.

Thankfully time is relative to how we preceive it and it eventually passed and I was a free man for the rest of the day.

I used this time to go contact Jessica to see if she wanted to do anything while I was in the area. Unfortunately, she also got saddled with working today.....the dreaded closing shift. So that basically blew any plans to go see Les Miserables with her and any dinner plans after. Oh well, c'est la vie.

I ended up going home and started a marathon of Halo 4 ranking my character up as well as unlocking a bunch of things in the game....new armor, guns, abilities etc...played this well into the night and as I recall i fell asleep with the controller still in my hand.

Sunday morning, I woke up at 9am and started to get ready to go to the other "job". I hyphenated this word here because it's not so much a job than a hobby. I am the guest coordinator for the Anime North Convention. I basically send out all the invitations to potential Guests of Honour and performers our convention will have and do any and all negotiations with agents. I inherited this position, not because of my outstanding work ethic, but because I was the last man standing when the old director decided to step down. When she did, all the staff under her, except me, also decided to leave. They did not want to have anything to do with the con if she wasn't going to be there. Since I had decided to remain, I ended up becoming the new director. The only downfall to this position. It's not payed. All Volunteer. Alot of work yes, but the rewards justify all the hard work to see both fan and guest mingle well and have a good time at the con.

We had a meeting on the Sunday at the hotel. I stopped by a friend who needed a ride. He bought the coffee and we set out for Toronto. I would have picked up Jessica as well, but she needed to be there earlier than when I needed to be. She ended up getting a ride from her sister. Upon arrival I met up with a few people that needed either input or had questions regarding the guest situation. I answered them as best as could.

Let's hope that I answered them sufficiently and don't suffer any consequences or have to clean up any messes.

Jessica again had to work the night shif again, so this time I ended up staying at the con office a while longer and started sending out emails for invitations to our potential guests. I ended up going home around 7pm. My friend invited me back to his place where he was hosting a gaming night and we spend the rest of the evening playing some very terrific games including Flux, Guillotene, Cards Against Humanity, and This game has not been playtested. All these games were amazingly fun, and quite amusing at times. These are games that I definitely need to pick up.

      That was my weekend.

      2013 Day 11 - TGIF

If you know the acronym then you feel the same way I do right about now. For those of you that don't, TGIF stands for "Thank Goodness It's Friday.

This has been a long week and yet still my work week is not over. I work a 4 hour shift tomorrow starting at 8 and ending at noon. After that, I have the remaining time to myself to do with as I please. I could have taken tomorrow off, but I need the money more. It also helps that after work I can go see my sweetie and spend time with her.

Tonight, I sat back read a few of my new comics that I picked up on Wednesday, played a few rounds of Halo 4 with some of my friends online, and played with my pet cat. (I have been neglecting her a bit too much so I figure this should make up for it. If I find another hairball by my bed, and I step in it, I know that it wasn't enough).

Nothing really was good on television. Not like back a couple decades. We had TGIF Fridays on ABC. I didn't bother even attempting to channel surf. It's. Sunday that I am looking forward to. Gonna catch a few football playoff games and watch the golden globes.

For now, I am gonna turn in and hopefully get some much needed rest before the ratrace tomorrow.

      2013 Day 10 - D&D Session 2

When last we left our heros, we had escaped from a locked dungeon that our "guide", who turned out to be a traitor to his people, had locked us in, only to be confronted by a number of angry dwarf guards.

Our druid, who in the shape of a polar bear, beat down the door and started to pursue our would be jailor. This left us facing down a bunch of angry dwarves who were guarding the dwarven families of the armies our party dwarf was destined to lead. Without their help we would have no way to help end the siege the drow race had put on this community.

Just as we were about to dispatch our foes, a loud rumbling and earth shaking anomaly occurred. It turned out that while we were underground trying to rescue the hostages, the volcano the dwarves town was built upon became very active due to the interference of our God possessed elven NPC character, whom we thought lost to a blazing inferno when we took on the red dragon.

A giant explosion occurred above ground and a beam of light went streaking to the heavens. Its light brightening the murky gloomy darkness the world was plunder into at the start of the campaign. In its brightest section, 100 feet up from the peak of the volcano, the form of our lost comrade could just be made out. She just "stood" there in all her terrible glory, but gave us no heed. Obviously she was conflicted with inner demons of the warring personalities within her to focus on us.

Back underground, we convinced our foes that at this time, if we did not escape the tunnels with everyone, including the hostages, none of us would survive. We put aside our differences, to the dismay of our traitorous guide, and went to free the captives. We arrived to the prison pit area, where the hostages were kept only to discover that the pits were rapidly filling with water and all the prisoners caught within would drown. The rogues went quick to work springing locks. Our bear druid was trying to help people out of the pits because he was tall enough in bear form for people to climb him to freedom. Unfortunately he inadvertently terrified the women and children until we were able to calm them down. In all this commotion, the traitor and his lackies escaped, leaving us with no idea which way out was.

Back on the surface, the other half of the party was dealing with the oncoming dwarf army. Our Dwarf managed to rally some of them behind him, but without the assured success of our rescue plan there wasn't any way to convince the rest. Time was running out for our companions above.

Back downstairs, our ranger figured he could track our prey by scent. Thankfully it worked, and we were able to follow a path through the aqueduct system of the dwarves town to freedom above. We found the best landmark available and relayed a message from our wizard to our Dwarf cleric that our plan was successful. With that proof in hand Our Dwarf informed the remaining army of their liberated families and they turned to our side. The now deposed king retreated from us vowing vengeance.

With that victory securely in hand, we now turned our attention to the next biggest threat. The imminent eruption of the volcano. We are at the moment trapped between an angry volcano above us and a drow siege below us. We figured we could use the aqueduct system to drop heaps of volcanic lava on the unsuspecting drow army. The only problem with the plan was that the control station was in drow territory so we wouldn't be able to control the system. We came up with a plan that would have strike teams engage each aqueduct point we needed at the exact same time, but we would need a very big distraction to get the full attention of the drow army. We would be overrun otherwise. No one was able to come up with anyone, until we all looked up and remembered the light in the sky. Surly if we were able to somehow involve our crazy elven companion into the skirmish, she would be able to cause a big enough distraction. How to get her attention though, we had no clue.

The campaign session ended there........to be continued.

      2013 Day 9 - Comic Day

Well today is Wednesday, and that means it's new comic book day.

With the holidays now behind us, I know that my subscription box at my local comic book store must be quite full. That and I received a call from my friend who owns the place that I need to stop by and pick up some stuff lest he cancel my account. Can't have that. Luckily I have placed some money away for just this sort of thing.

I used to be a big MARVEL comics fan, but I did not like the direction some of the stories were going in. I switched back to my original company of choice, DC comics and I must say that the writing and artwork have me very impressed.

About a year ago now DC relaunched all it titles, yes all including Action Comics and Detective Comics their flagship titles, to new #1 issues. This was the perfect jump on point. Basically we are looking at a somewhat different DC universe, with some aspects to the original.

My Favorite titles at the moment are Green Lantern. And the Batman family of books. These 2 titles are currently and great cruxes in their stories. They did not suffer from too much from the relaunch and have kept up with stories prior to the new #1's.

I cleared out my box to appease my friend and also picked up some gorgeous bishoujo statues. These statues are of the female characters of both the MARVEL and DC Universes done in the pretty girl japanese style of artwork. I have been collecting these for a while now and am just missing a few of the Variant statues. I intend to buy a couple display cases in order to properly exhibit them but until then I am keeping them in their respective boxes.

In total I dropped about $580 at the shop, easily being the biggest purchase of the day in both dollars spent and merchandise purchased. Gonna have to save up again if I intend to make a buying spree like that again.

Well, off to go indulge my reading skills and get caught up with a bunch of stories.

      Until next time......

      Hail COBRA!

2013 Day 8 - The start of a new week...Or...How not to get ahead at work.

Well, technically that is. This may be the second work week of January that we are in, but it is the official start of the 2nd week of 2013.

My Horoscope said that it would be a 5 star day for me and to make travel arrangements with my "spoiuse". Since I am dirt poor and unmarried, I am thinking dinner and a movie with the girlfriend. Yes the paper said travel, it just never mentioned how far or for what to do.

Didn't have all that much to do in the morning. Considering I did all of today's morning pickups yesterday, so I ended up staying at the branch doing busy work like sweeping, mopping and dusting. I served the occasional customer at the counter and filled out some orders that needed to be processed, then was scolded that I was going beyond my station as to what I could do.

Why is it that if someone shows the slightest bit of ambition to try and get farther up the corporate ladder by doing a task not normally assigned to them, and proving they can handle the responsibility, the people above you stike you down and scold you for going out of line? I thought that if I could show what I am capable of, that I would get recognized and maybe a thankyou. No, instead I get told to not do that again and to just stick to what I am good for (Even though they know I can do the job). Just goes to show, that even when you try to play the game, you can't win if you aren't even allowed on the field to participate.

Ah well, just gonna play with the cards I am dealt with, and look for the right opportunity to go all in.

Patience, as they say is a virtue. To tell the truth though, I don't know how more virtuous I can be when nothing wants to go your way and everything you think is right, is wrong,....

Hmmmm I am thinking Guns and Roses with a side order of Poison for tonights music choices......

Knocking on Heavens Door and Every Rose has it's Thorns.

      2013 Day 7 - A Matter of Context

Have you ever had an email or a letter from a person that had words and phrases you read, but did not understnad the context? Ever have a Conversation with someone, where you say something and they misinturpret your meaning with something they think you mean as inappropriate? I am sure everyone has done it, hell even I have.

You'd think in today's society we could get by with simple conversation. That words are words and they are not to have any hidden meaning, double entendre, or mean any harm to the person being spoken to. Unfortunately the sad fact is, that we live in a world where "political correctness" has everyone strung up from their short and curlies. People having to watch what they say less we insult someone or saying something as innocent as "nice dress" and that being taken as an insult as "wow your too fat for that."

Do words have power? Yes, the spoken and written words do have power, but only if we allow them to.
What's the old saying? Sticks and Stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me. We've are drummed that as youngsters, but now we are taught that words can be used to hurt and abuse. Again only if you let them.

We need to stop dancing around the points we try to make with each other and just say it how it is. Will it hurt feelings? probably, Can we find the correct words to use? Most likely, but don't be aftaid to ask the person point blank what is on your mind.

I have been told by a number of friends and co-workers of some of the issues they have with me. Some were straight to the point, some left me quite clueless. But it's the people I respect the most that just come right out and say what is bothering them. Will I feel resentment and hurt, sure at first, but if they are really my friends, then there comments are there to help me understand what it is they are trying to get across. How I choose to take those words and letters in context, do they mean to hurt me, do they mean to help me, do they mean anything at all. is up to me.

Sticks and Stones people, sticks and stones..........

      Hail COBRA!

2013 Day 6 - Much to do about Nothing

Today was a pure lazy day where I could sit back and do absolutely nothing! I don't think enough people realize how comforting it is to just sit still, stay at home, stay in bed, loaf on the couch, etc etc etc....

People who need to constantly do something in order to keep from thinking unwanted thoughts don't understand the concept of not thinking. It doesn't take any effort at all, in fact it takes absolutely NONE! That is the simple beauty of it. Hell even when you are doing tasks, you don't really need to think to yourself in order to get things accomplished. A simple example? Petting your cat or dog. You just do it habitually. Sure the initial thought of petting your animal is required, but after that decision is made you don't have to do anything else.

If the world had more days like this, I feel life would be simpler. Sure nothing would get done for one day, but that would be one day of peace and quiet for everyone.

That is my thought of the day, and after this, I don't plan to have any other thoughts until tomorrow when I have to return to my routine of working.

      Hail COBRA!
