I didnt really do a final thoughts post because the forum for the guardians got all messed up with the site upgrade, but a thought hit me hard tonight.
I work a lot of conventions, between 7-9 a year and this being my 9th year doing them. The job comes with many ups and downs but ive never walked away from an event without a new experience. An entirely unique thing of doing RTX is that at the end of the event theres a group of attendees that stick around by the exit of the convention center, and every time a guardian comes out they all cheer like mad. I true rockstar experience. That alone was so kind that it brings the biggest dumb smile to my face every time i think of it.
Ive thought about RTX alot these last few weeks, but it only tonight that i remembered something that brought me to joyful tears. After i came out the door to the roaring cheers of the crowd i stepped aside to talk to some of the other guardians that were also just taking the experience in. I said goodbye to them and started what would be my final departure from the convention center. As i turned and walked i heard "HEY!". i turned to see a girl running out of the crowd, up to me, and as happy as could be, she said 'hey, youre that guardian that kept helping me find things all weekend!' , which i had remembered her face and i had told her where panels and stuff was at. "Thank you so much, i would have missed the panel i came all the way here for if you hadnt helped me" she said. "Thank you so much for saying that, glad you got to it!" "No, Thank you, you guys rock!" and she ran off and practically dove back into the crowd.
She was one of so many attendees that walked up to us and gave honest thank yous, and I wanted to be very clear when i say Thank YOU to all the other guardians that worked this event. My team, my leaders, and especially all the others who i didnt get to interact with. Its only a team effort that made these attendees so relaxed and grateful for all of the work that goes into running these events, that leads them to repeatedly thank and even cheer for us just for doing what we signed up to do.
Roosterteeth will always be close to my heart for having been apart of my life for so long, and its experiences like this that will stand out in my memories forever.
