Today begin the last twelve days of studying I have left this spring. At the end of March I relocate temporarily to do a practical training in my hometown.

This could be a beginning of an end. Soon there will be no more exams, math problems, over-sized lab coats, camera recorded customer service exercises, or reeking n-octanol on my notebook. I'm glad when I'm done with all of that.

Salary is a nice thing but the best part is getting rid of my asshole roommate. But instead of focusing on the relief of not having to deal with her I'm all about the fully positive parts: lately the sunny weather has reminded me of dry asphalt, sneakers, and jogging while listening to the RT podcast.

      I can't wait!

I'm going start my journal with something really tiresome. I doubt anyone is going to mind because I'm not really writing this to be read. But you've got to write something somewhere, right?

So, the Oscar Gala was broadcasted live last night at 3 AM (+2 GMT). This is the first time I've actually seen the whole show because with a new digibox I could watch the recording on the morning.

Last time I tried was during a winter break... probably three or four years ago. Back then I woke up in the middle of the night, turned on the TV and, for some reason, I hadn't anticipated the lack of Finnish subtitles. The volume was really low, so I couldn't really hear anything but my dad did. So, almost immediately I had to give up and go back to bed.

This year for the first time ever a Finnish short film (Pitääkö mun kaikki hoitaa?) was nominated for an Oscar. The film in question is the second ever Finnish film to be nominated. It didn't win the category but I had fun replaying the introduction because the pronunciation of the original Finnish name was so dreadful I completely missed it at first. Sorry, I shouldn't make fun of that because I realize what a pain the name must be to pronounce for someone that speaks a language that in fact is pronounced.

But I wonder if I would have been able to watch the Gala the first time I tried. If I've had the chance to increase volume, I doubt I would have been able to keep up with the speedy English everyone was speaking. This time I did, with ease.

So, even without any nominations or trophies I would have to thank Achievement Hunter and Rooster Teeth for making this amazing content that has made a real difference also in my language skills. Having that I solemnly swear it won't go to waste and in future I'll do more than just listen your plane stories.

I'll see what comes of that.
