    • Funhaus Theater Mode RETURNS September 21st!

UPDATE: The Season 2 premiere has been moved to Friday, September 21st.

Cut a hole in your popcorn bucket, because Funhaus Theater Mode is getting a squeakquel!

Season 2 premieres for FIRST members on Friday, September 21st, on RoosterTeeth.com.

This season we’re riffing on eight of Troma’s biggest dumpster fires, including Bride of Killer Nerd, the successor to one of our favorite films of the first season, Revenge of the Killer Nerd. If you haven’t seen the episode, check it out now.

But there’s more! We’re experimenting with “AUX-only” episodes. What the heavens does that mean, you ask?

We’re finally going to riff on big Hollywood TRASH! Yay! However, since even Gary Busey has even his price, we’re taking an approach that allows us to circumvent expensive licensing costs.

In an AUX-only episode, we’ll provide you with our camera and commentary. To watch along with us, simply find a copy of the movie we’re watching, boot it up on your Betamax player (or Xbox, NERD!) and hit play on both pieces of media at the sync point we indicate. It’s our goal to choose films that are easily accessible, and if possible, available across common streaming services.

On a final note; a thank you. We’ve been floored by the outpouring of positive feedback from our first season. A show like Theater Mode is in the Funhaus DNA. Fans of Inside Gaming will remember the old “Mystery Science Theater Edition” streams, and videos like “Ryse: THE MOVIE: THE GAME. That the stars have aligned and we’re regularly able make this type of content is extremely exciting and rewarding. So thank you so much for supporting and watching.

      See you at the movies!

    • Kinda Funny Championship -- A Heartfelt Thank You

This is it. The end of the “Kinda Funny Best Friend Whos-a-What’s-It March-through-May Madness Vote for G.O.A.T Tim Schafer Spooktacular Super Bowl XXVII.”

Let me preface everything below by saying, with complete sincerity: I am honored, flattered, humbled, and privileged to be the recipient of this inaugural first annual award.

As the old adage goes, “Tell me who your friends are, and I’ll tell you who you are.” If this tournament shows us anything, it’s that Kinda Funny is a magnet that attracts great friends. BEST friends.

When Greg first told me I’d be included in this tournament, I wasn’t sure what to expect. Then, I saw the esteemed company I was against, and I was shaken. Needless to say, this tournament featured an incredible group of people (and brands), many that I know personally. Good friends. Colleagues. Creators I admire. Delicious, cheesy snacks I’ve eaten in and around my car.

I’ve never considered myself on the same level as any of these people, so to see myself included among them was surreal. Still is. I was a winner the second Kinda Funny considered me worthy of being in their company.

And that was enough. To be on that placard, in the tournament at all, was more than enough. First round in, I was up against the Commish himself: the incomparable and wonderful Xavier Woods. Then and there I resolved that my tournament tenure would be short-lived. I was happy to be nominated, and even happier at the prospect of losing to someone as kind and supportive as Xavier Woods. Someone who has such a strong and positive presence in the Kinda Funny community.

WELL, THINGS DIDN’T EXACTLY UNFOLD AS I EXPECTED, neither did any of the rounds that followed. I can’t make sense of it, but here I stand -- somehow -- at the end of this tournament. I’m shocked as to how it happened, but I’m grateful nonetheless. There’s more emotion behind it than I can accurately describe, or do so without sounding horribly cheesy. But I’ll say this: the sheer amount of love and support I’ve received over Twitter in the last week outweighs the prestige of any actual title. Fans and voters have made me feel like a champion, and so have my “opponents,” who have been nothing but sportsmanlike and encouraging. I admire everyone on that placard and I’ve witnessed both at a distance and first-hand how much each and every one of them care about the Kinda Funny community. All of them are deserving of an equal honor, if not more.

As you grow older, the idea of a “best friend” loses a certain exclusive superlative, once you realize that “best” can apply to the many special people who have a profound impact on your life and a unique place in your heart. There’s a reason Kinda Funny bestows that moniker to their community members and collaborators. Over these last few weeks you’ve touched my heart and put me on a pedestal I don’t entirely feel worthy of. But I’m so grateful. It’s very difficult for me to see myself with any prestige or acclaim, so I’m very fortunate to be lifted up by you.

Thank you to everyone who voted and sent kind words. Especially to those who kept the mood friendly and positive. You mean so much to me and I’m incredibly moved by the gestures made over the last few weeks, and the outpouring of support. Funhaus and Kinda Funny have the best communities out there.

Thank you to Barbara Dunkelman, a unique and dynamic woman who is the champion to so many, and touches so many lives. She’s someone I care about and I was proud to be in her company at the end. She’s an extremely accomplished individual with an incredible reach and passionate fanbase. I’m fully aware she went easy on me in the final, because she’s ALSO an incredibly tactful person. She’s just the best.

Thank you to Commissioner Xavier Woods for imbuing me with his power going forward. He’s the real champ, in the ring and out.

Thank you to Tim Schafer, Geoff Ramsey, my brother Adam Kovic, Shuhei Yoshida, Brandon Jones, Alfredo Diaz, Dan Ryckert, Brian Altano, Mike Drucker, Fran Mirabella, Chastity, Grimecraft, Lorne Lanning, Sean Finnegan, Hunter Pence, Rahul Kohli, Burnie Burns, Anthony Carboni, Tonedeff, Sisqo, Dave Fennoy, Troy Baker, Napa Smith, DiGiorno, Hot Cheetos, Oreos, Wing Wings, Portillo’s, Taco Bell, and La Croix. Double thank you to Taco Bell, actually. They know why.

To Kinda Funny, thank you for being wonderful people, and thank you for thinking the best of me. I love you guys, and I can’t wait to come back.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart,

      - The True Champion, Tim Schafer (as seen wearing an Elyse mask)

P.S. I’m still not convinced that this wasn’t the product of some grandiose prank or troll -- when it comes to light that it in fact was,  in your face, Andy.

    • Funhaus Changes in 2018

      Dear Funhaus Community,

We’ve spent a great deal of time over the last year talking internally about the future of Funhaus. A future wherein we continue to make the type of content you’ve grown to expect and enjoy, while at the same time striving to bring you even better shows and content.

It is our goal to maintain the same level of transparency with you that we personally demand from our favorite creators. So it’s in that very spirit we now share with you our 2018 content strategy: Quality Vs. Quantity.

What does this mean? A couple less videos per week, to be honest. It’s an entirely different workflow for us and a shift away from our usual production output which traditionally demands pushing ourselves beyond our natural limits. This year we want to work smarter.

Going forward we plan to re-focus on making fewer, up-produced pieces of content. Taking into account analytics and your feedback, we’ve narrowed in on what a fan-favorite Funhaus video resembles. “Avatar,” “Talking Stalkings,” “Surfers Vs. Skaters,” and “Weed Shop,” are all good examples. Moreover, these videos exhibit shared qualities: extra attention and time in pre-production and post-production, live action interstitials, crazy visuals, costuming, elaborate bits, and an over-the-top commitment to having fun and going all-in. These same considerations also apply to more “basic” gameplays like “Hitman” or “Alekhine’s Gun.” A comment we regularly see is “I LIKE WHEN YOU PLAY GAMES, THOUGH!” We still are! But now with more time and thought that can really reinvigorate and give added value to the final video product. Basically, we want to give you MORE and feel excited about it.

This is the pledge we now make to you. In 2018, we’re going ALL-IN. It means making fewer videos, sure, but hopefully it also means more videos that will leave you breathless and in tears from laughing so hard, or taken aback by a style of editing, animation or comedy unlike anything you’ve ever seen in a Funhaus video. Cutting back on 3-4 videos a week means that the videos we do make will have more time and attention in post. Consequently, team members who edit will have more breathing room and space to flex some creative muscle.

You may be wondering what criteria helped shape our new content slate. On the one hand, we looked at what types of videos we enjoy making, and by what means we derive the most satisfaction as creatives, comedians and producers. But for the most part, it’s come down to taking an introspective, critical look at our content and discerning what’s working and what isn’t (which is something we do regularly, regardless). As such, some of the shows that garner lower viewership will be put on indefinite hiatus. For example, Comments Show has a small, niche audience, but doesn’t pull in big numbers. However, that doesn’t mean that you won’t see elements of Comments Show and other pulled shows materialize in different formats. So hang tight.

Paid, sponsored videos will continue to be made, which is relatively self-explanatory. Shows like Filmhaus, Dude Soup, Open Haus that are extremely viable financially for the channel. But even some of this content you may see follow a more seasonal structure.

Here’s our new posting schedule. This applies to YouTube, unless otherwise specified. At first glance you’ll notice that the Monday slot will now alternate between seasons of shows, as we start up the first season of Wheelhaus (giving Demo Disk a well-deserved break).

GTA will be once a week now, alternating between co-op and single camera gameplays. And who knows; maybe when Red Dead Redemption 2 releases it will rotate in that slot as well.

Dude Soup will stream live for RT FIRST Members on Tuesdays now, shifting the YouTube posting to Thursday.

MONDAY - Demo Disk, Wheelhaus, or an entirely new series (seasonal)

TUESDAY - Open Haus, Dude Soup Live on RoosterTeeth.com for FIRST Members

WEDNESDAY - GTA Co-Op OR GTA Race / Death Match

      THURSDAY - Dude Soup (YouTube)

      FRIDAY - Co-Op Gameplay

      SATURDAY - Comedy Gameplay, Filmhaus

      SUNDAY - Comedy Gameplay

Now here’s the amazing, exciting upside to all of this. Quality Vs. Quantity also means we’re working on BALLIN’, swag-heavy, DANKER THAN DANK new stuff! Big budgets and big ideas, some of which are dream projects for many of us. These are the ideas that we’ve talked about making, and, thanks to all of you, these dreams are closer to a reality than ever before. Our audience deserves the best product we can deliver and we’re honored to have the opportunity to make you all laugh and feel entertained. Now we’re takin’ it up a notch. We’ll continue to roll out information about these upcoming projects as soon as we can. It’s safe to say that many new shows will be viewable on RoosterTeeth.com, and/or for FIRST Members, if not across all platforms.

      THE TEAM

“But if you’re making fewer videos, what will the editors DO?!? Won’t their fingers grow stiff and slow from a lack of content to cut?!?” The answer is a resounding NO. Because they already have stiff, arthritic old man hands. Especially Bones. And Matt Peake. But especially Bones.

Changing things up has exciting implications for the entire team. First of all, you can expect to see a more diverse cast on camera. Less time editing = more camera time for the Bungalow Boys (someday we’ll get to “Bungalow People.” Someday). Second, we can all start working on grander projects and really tap into our collective creativity. Don’s got a big, beautiful brain, under that big, beautiful hair. We want to keep growing a happy, productive, creatively fulfilled team and we want that to be reflected in the kind of content we make.

In late November we bid good-bye to The Bungalow. We’re still transitioning to a new, communal office space, but in the coming months you may start seeing different backgrounds in videos and new sets. This is a good thing, something that we’ve been working toward for a long time, for many reasons. For one, it unifies our team. And two, Rooster Teeth is helping us implement spaces engineered for and more conducive to our work purposes.

This February, Funhaus will be entering its fourth year. We may not be in our infancy, but compared to Rooster Teeth proper we’re still learning how to walk. Our history, connections and culture are developing, and we invite you to be a part of that. In 2018 we’re paying special attention to community. Maybe not in videos, per se, but we hope this will manifest in other respects. Live events, Funhaus TV chat (more on that below), in our existing communities (Reddit, Twitter), and other new and emerging platforms. Community IS and ALWAYS WILL BE the pillar of Funhaus.

An ambitious 2018 project we CAN talk about, is “Funhaus TV” (working title). Some of you got a taste a few weeks ago. The basic idea is to host a video stream on the FH channel that runs 24/7 and syndicates our entire back catalogue of videos, unless otherwise interrupted by us livestreaming brand new content! It’s also an extremely fluid, ever-present space where we can test new ideas, do weird shit, and transition shows and ideas that don’t necessarily have the makings of a successful VOD (like Comments Show!).

We hope that Funhaus TV’s chat will also serve as a community hub and hangout. We don’t typically interact with chat during streams (for recording reasons), but now we’ll have a designated place where we can gossip in real-time, e.g. “Did you SEE Adam’s new haircut? It looks exactly like his old haircut. What a great guy!”

Basically Funhaus TV will be our creative playground. So stay tuned.

      WHAT’S NEXT?

We’re going to continue being transparent and open with you. You’re the reason we’re here, and the work and exciting projects mean nothing if you’re not around to share them with.

We love our community and we can’t wait to bring you even better content and comedy this year.

If you have questions, comments, sweet Kool-Aid recipes then please, Tweet at us. We WANT to hear from you!

Happy Holidays, Happy New Year, and thank you all for watching! You, as the audience, are our first priority, so we want to do right by you!  benson

    • Twits & Crits Returns For A New Season!

      Ho Ho, Dear Adventurers!

Our Funhaus Dungeons & Dragons show Twits & Crits returns for Rooster Teeth FIRST members this fall. And listen up ya bafooks, ‘cause there are some big CHANGES happening! (Change = scary, right? BE BRAVE!)

Going forward, Twits & Crits will post to RoosterTeeth.com every other week.

On September 14th we kick things off with a 2-hour special that concludes the events of the story arc you’ve been following for the past three seasons.

Then, on September 28th, we are premiering Twits & Crits: The League of Extraordinary Jiremen. Or T&C: LXJ, as we’ve been referring to it. God, we are SO fucking cool.

Needless to say, we at Funhaus are huge fans of The Dark Universe (a.k.a. The “DUCU”), so the prospect of creating our own coalition of the macabre is super exciting. Playing with existing genre and horror tropes is gonna be a good time.

For those who are already fans of the show, all of your favorite characters ARE returning. So don’t go flipping any tables just yet! Dirik, Myri, Racsan, Shattercock, Decker and Grimo are about to embark upon a new adventure, and there’s something oddly refreshing about that. At least for us. The comedic potential is RIPE! We're already a few episodes into production and having a blast.

That being said, if you’re never watched Twits & Crits, now’s the time to start. T&C: LXJ is a nine episode mini-series with a fresh start and conclusion. It doesn’t require a deep background of previous seasons to know what’s going on or who the characters are. You can jump right in and not feel helplessly uninformed.

      September 14th - thrilling 2-hour conclusion of Twits & Crits Seasons 1-3

September 28th - premiere of Twits & Crits: The League of Extraordinary Jiremen.

      Shall we begin?

So, are you actually Canadian? Or is your character in 11LR because of how much you seem like you have in common with Barbara? I'm not looking for clues, it's just amusing to me that I wondered this before 11LR because of how similar you and Barbara seemed to be; especially in terms of how you are both funnier than most of the people usually around you, and probably something else that I can't place my finger on. Either way, thanks for the lols!
