We drove in Wednesday evening, many thanks to @SynOfGrave for letting us crash at his place!
Thursday was full of getting ourselves checked in. I was with RT Sidequest as a Spectre this year so I helped out with booth setup, and then had to get ready for the Cocktail Party/Charity Auction. I worked registration, where it became apparent we cannot spell special guests’ last names to save our lives… (Particularly Brandon, Chris, and Josh’s. Whoops sorry guys…)
Got a lot of compliments on my outfit, which I really needed. I don’t do fancy dress very often, and it was my first time with that outfit, and I’m SUPER self-conscious about fancy clothing. So I was glad I got the confidence I needed pretty early on. (And thanks to @niriall and the others, who helped me learn how to do makeup. I suck at girly things, I swear)
Everything seemed to go very well at the auction. I don’t know how much was ultimately raised for the kids, but I believe the naked cardboard Gus alone went for 500. Damn guys!
Met and hung out with some awesome folks during my break, including @lambency (who gave me a Neo card and chibi Bumbleby buttons!) and @SailorGirl81 who I got pictures with as we became total dorks with fake swords. (I both look forward to and dread seeing how those turned out. Oh boy XD)
Basically crashed into bed that night cause it was honestly the most exhausting day….and RTX itself hadn’t even started! (And curse you, stupid lady stilts!)
Lined up early Friday to get into the RT store to get what I needed from there first thing. While in line I saw a kickass Wash cosplay who I spent the next couple days trying to find to get a picture. Spotted him in the first hour of RTX… and immediately lost him.
Spent most of the day wandering around a bit and checking out cosplays, trying to get something to eat, checking out the Expo hall. It was basically my rest day. Saw Meg in the main hall and got a selfie with her and a chance to bid her a farewell. After that I was killing time till I got to the RWBY Music panel. I wasn’t able to go to the concert Saturday, so I wanted to be sure I went to their panel. (Got awesome front row seats.)
Actually got a lazy evening to hang out with @Myshu and SynOfGrave when they got off Guardian duty, and had a snazzy dinner where we were quite out of place. But dang that was a tasty short rib.
Saturday I was up bright and even earlier to grab a crepe breakfast and get in line for the LGBT Panel. Guys, it was wonderful, and I am so thrilled I was able to go. The room was PACKED, and one of the speakers was there to represent asexuality, which was such a pleasant surprise. A lot was also said about bi-erasure, which as a bisexual woman I greatly appreciated. There were many moments that almost brought tears to my eyes, and the video Patrick(1 of 3) showed finally succeeded in doing so. Awesome job guys, and thank you!
Had booth duty with SideQuest in the afternoon. We had some gorgeous shirts and pins this year, as well as beer glasses and more bandanas!
Got myself to the Cards Against Humanity panel in the evening. No way I was missing such a fun play through of my favorite game. And it did not disappoint.
Had to get to Buffalo Billiards to set up for Barlympics after that. Boy that was…a thing which happened. That was a lot of drunk people. I’m not a go-out-to-drink sort of person, so let me tell you, it was a new experience. xD
In case anyone is curious, Orange (Funhaus) Team won by a lot.
Sunday I had to get up EVEN earlier cause I basically had to pack up everything into the car before getting breakfast and lining up for the RT Podcast (to anyone who has not yet watched it…vomit warning. Seriously. There’s some gross stuff.)
The morning was rough. Early wakeups are never an easy thing for me. It felt like the hottest day, the crepe place even had a line (and got my order wrong, good thing my banana allergy isn’t deadly, just very uncomfortable). But after that bumpy start, the rest of the day was amazing! Did some shopping in the Expo hall, met up with @Kiaxet and we decided to check out the Five Nights at Roosterteeth Immersion Experience thingy. On our way there, we ran into @Yssa, who joined up with us, and we were able to cling together during it. It wasn’t as panic-inducing as I expected (I have an anxiety disorder, so most haunted house things tend to make me flip out), instead it was just good spooky fun.
After that we ran into @Samantha and her family. Her son was having a grand time whacking her cousin with a Kylo Ren lightsaber, while the group of us discussed the existential horror that is Thomas the Tank Engine (guys I lived with Thomas-obsessed kids. I know way more about it than I wish I did. That universe is messed up…)
Saw some awesome cosplayers, chatted with a few folks, then made my way to get autographs. Turns out Myshu, @Kempob, and Sailorgirl were in charge of the line I was in, so I got to chat off and on with them. As well as some lovely people in line with me. (And @madmanmoe even showed up to say hi)
So I met Jen Brown, Jason Rose, and @Shannon. I mostly kept my chill. I’m pretty sure. I really hope I did. XD
After that I basically just wandered the Expo hall until it closed… and finally found that Wash cosplay I saw on the first day! Win!
Had dinner at IHOP, invited others to join me but alas, I was alone for the meal. It was damned tasty though. Mmm savory crepes….
Headed to Billiards to setup for the Lounge… for us to discover there was a scheduling SNAFU and everything started an hour early. Oops.
The Lounge was a good, chill ending to the weekend and got to see more folks one last time before heading out. Finally got a chance to meet @williams in person (He’s such a sweetheart), and got to personally thank Mica for being a part of making the LGBT panel happen.
We stayed at SynOfGrave’s a couple nights to recover. This included mead, Ant-Man, and Mahoromatic. And possibly using black powder to blow up his backyard…. I blame the mead. Don’t drink on July 4th in Texas. You do crazy things.... like blow up the backyard.
When we got home yesterday morning, we discovered the cat had puked everywhere…and attracted flies. So I had a fun day of cleaning and poor Shu had a fun day at work. And I got called in to work a day early for today. Welcome home to us, huh? XD
All in all, though, it was an AMAZING weekend. I had loads of fun, and did so much. It helped incredibly in the battle against my anxiety and to get out of the mindset I’ve been in for so long. The one telling me I can’t do things on my own. Most of the weekend, I did on my own steam, and money, and choice. And it turned out fantastic.
Thanks to everyone I met, and worked alongside, and friends I got to give hugs to. So much happened and its already become something of a blur. It was an experience I greatly needed. I don’t know where I’ll be next year, so its still undecided if I’ll be there. But I have no regrets about it this year. Not even a little.
Wow… What a weekend.
Pics are on the way. Still sorting them out....
