I would like all of you to take a moment and check out Steamboys, a radioshow podcast by a really great guy and dear friend of mine Jason..

This is a link to the first episode of Steamboys, Meeting the Team

Jason has written, produced, and directed this. He has taken his idea and made it real. It has voice acting, special effects, original music, and most importantly, passion.

I hope you all enjoy this.

I also hope you all talk about it, share it, hashtag it, do whatever it is you do!!!

    • Family...the bad kind

      ErokDragun Just here

So, my wifes aunt and uncle cam to visit....without any notification, and have stayed for 4 days. I am pretty sure (and extremely hopeful) they are leaving tomorrow.

Yes, I may sound like an asshole, but do any of you have that one person in your family that makes sure that everything that happens, every conversation that is had, every place that is gone to, and every meal that is prepared has to be "approved" by them first? That's what her aunt is like. She is old, in poor health, and and always having a new medical issue. The uncle is a good man, but you can tell he is at his wits end with her. She makes constant demands for him to do something, or get something, or whatever......and the worse part is her demands, 9 out of 10 times are completely frivolous bullshit, yet she behaves like the fate of the world hangs out them.

We had some simple plans this weekend. Get a tree, decorate it and the house, and relax. That all went up in smoke as soon as she showed up, because she is a fervent catholic, and she assumes we all are too, no matter how many times we tell her otherwise. Had we actually moved to do any of that, she would have demanded we did it the way she likes, and I or Gretchen would have told her to kiss our ass, and t would have been another tear in my wife's family. So, now the weekend is gone, and we accomplished nothing we wanted, and our holiday plans have now been put off a week.

She never shuts up...anytime any of us try to say anything, she butts in with her story that somehow relates to what we just said, and the only way we can get back o topic is to talk over her until she shuts up.

Lets do a little time line. Thursday, she had an appointment in NOLA at one of the Ochsner's medical facilities. She had something done, and while on her way to see us for a brief meeting, she had some kind of mishap with one of the IV's she always has in her, and had to go to the local hospital to fix it. They couldnt do it right, so they had to stay a few days. Of course we said they could stay with us. smiley3.gif

The uncle had to get a bunch of medical equipment shipped to us, and now our house is full of boxes. Our tables and counters are full of stuff, and she keeps demanding more stuff.

Have any of you ever known someone who demands every one in their presence be in their entourage?

Have you ever known any one whose very presence seems to suck the living space out an area?

Have you ever known any one who demands all the attention be on them?

and the worst thing....I am not sure if she is aware of her behavior. She has always been a demanding woman (to the point that I do my best to never make eye contact with her), but she has become a chore to be in the same room with.

Gretchen used to adore her....now, she is desperate for her to leave because of the constant stress she causes.

There was one interaction where I tried to humor her inane comments and converse with her. She begged me to stop keeping Gretchen away from the Catholic church. I had to fight hard to suppress a laugh. I have more belief in things divine that Gretchen ever has. She is an agnostic, closer on the spectrum to atheist. If any one would be keeping another away from a church, she would be the one doing the stopping (likely from a Rastafarian meeting, since that's the only place I could ever consider going), but that's how things work with her. Her opinion about things is the way things are, and facts are ignored. It hurts my brain at first, my soul later.

Hopefully, they are leaving in the morning.

      Anywho....sorry for the rant

Maj-Eks- there are two types, Soldiers and Possessors.
Soldiers. Minimum 9’ tall, and about 4 ‘ wide. Pale blue skin, and a huge skeletal structure. Skin and muscle are pulled very tight over bones, to create a walking skeleton look. Soldiers are tech and weapon loving, and wear armor, and carry huge weapons. Their midsection is a large cavity which they normally fill with supplies and the like. Their vital organs are either held tight to the spine or sucked up inside the rib cage. Their lower spine is substantially wide.
Possessors – the tallest of them is 6’6â€. They have the same general appearance as soldiers, but dress completely different. They wear robes and loose flowing outfits. They are one of the sources of the Grim Reaper myths, due to being the last thing humans see before they are possessed. Most of them carry the same types of swords Thorn uses, and they are the source for where he gets his.

Fade has two stories…the one he tells people that is inline with the Resistor history that he constantly changes, and then, there is his real story. Starting in 1802 when Humphry Davy began the long process it took humans to create artificial light, the entire process had a secondary knowledge base building, which culminated in a mathematical, thought process that allowed for the harmonic sync of the human brain and wavelengths of light. This understanding and control lead to a very different present than the one our primary story is set in.

George Murphy is better known, in some circles, as DJ Igntius Rox, a brilliant and talented performer and composer. He is new to the scene, but has quickly risen due to his new sound and incredible live shows. No one on this realm know that he stepped through a portal his father created to hide him from the authorities in his reality. At a young age, George loved music, and the love of music grew into something else when he started to learn the basic mathematic concepts taught to everyone for testing and recruitment purposes. Had his father not notice his gift, he would have surely been isolated and studied. George has the ability to create and control light with his thoughts naturally instead of academically due to his affinity with music.

He joined the Underground when he saw the effects of the Maj-Ek at a mansion party he was invited to play at.

Raised in a religious, yet knowledgeable family, she was always a bit sheltered from the real world…until it came crashing in on her during her mid teens. Her father was rural preacher and her mother was a midwife. She grew up with a strong compassion and functional knowledge of reproduction as well as farm and plant life. The Maj-Ek arrived one cold spring day. That day ended with her land a blasted ruin and her parents dead, and her siblings dead or missing. A few hours later, all the damage to the plant and grounds was gone. Her powers erupted in the control and rapid growth of flora of all types. She became a healer and heart of the modern resistors. Do not mistake kindness for weakness though. She is a fierce and powerful warrior.

Oldest of 5 siblings Rehgan More helped her mom raise her siblings when dad ran off with a newer model. He had a good job and still paid plenty of child support, but he was never there, and Rehgan had to raise herself and her siblings, because mom checked out for awhile. Once all the kids were old enough, and mom got her life back together, Rehgan began going out more and hanging with her friends. One night, she heard about an after party that she felt an intense pull to go to. Once there, she could not shake a very bad feeling. After a short while she felt someone nearby going through intense agony. Her protection instinct kicked in and she went ot find who it was. She opened a door to a room and saw a few heavily corrupted human agents standing around Don, who appeared to be slowly collapsing in on himself. She dove for him before the agents could react, and the moment she touched him, their powers activated to spectacular effect. She drained completely, all emotions and psychic energy, from the agents and that allowed her to tap into the Emotional Cloud of the area and she used the love of everyone around and brought Don back from the brink. Afterwards she becomes and Empath, able to screw with primal energies and thoughts. Don never fully recovers, and is always a little off. He can rewrite reality. In all kinds of ways, most not understood, some not even theorized. He is a dues ex machina. Infinite cosmic power…little bitty mind space

As a child Don Plaston enjoyed a normal American upbringing. Son of a government official and his wife, he got a good education, and went to college. While in college, at a rave one night, he was approached by an upper classmen who he had meet in several classes. This upperclassman knew about a great after party, and convinced Don to join him. While at this party, Don was given, what he was told was a tablet of Ecstasy. In fact the pill was a one of a kind trigger meant to run Don into a dimensional portal from Earth to Maj-Ek Prime and allow a stable beach head. The upperclassman and the whole after party was set up to lure Don in. The Maj-Ek knew of him from his father, and had slowly been modifying his genetic code for his whole life. The plan would have worked if not for a fly in the ointment by the name of …Pixie (see description)

He is one of the few Resistors to activate without direct Maj-Ek intervention, but due to a subconscious activation method used by resistors back in the 80’s. When Ahsha Kord was a young child, he got into early video games. The games were created by a group of Resistors hoping to find new soldiers for the war without the normal Maj-Ek bodycount. Ahsha was the only one known to have activated this way. The games allowed his brain to process information faster, this allowed him to advance his fathers micronization technology thousand fold. By the time he was in high school he was on the verge of active, if basic nanotechnology, and soon after, figured out a bioorganic bridging system…and soon after that, began his implants.

Now he is more machinery than man, and has an incredible control of technology. He is in a constant flux of what humanity means and what it is…does his actions for humanity matter more than his apparent loss of “normalcy
Trans became a Resistor after meeting Thorn and realizing his ability had a purpose.

That would be a cool effect. May I draw flames around (not so he is covered in flames, but maybe separate flames here and there) instead of just around his feet?

      • ErokDragun FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold Just here

we can make his power effect be something akin to flame. like a strange color flame that he reforms from after he steps out of a body.

        regardless, it looks brilliant

Yeah its flames - which I thought turned out nice - although the reason for the flames was pretty much just, that I ran out of paper, and had to come up with an excuse for not drawing the bottompart. A happy accident smiley0.gif

In regards to the hat, that'll be no problem. The drawing was also more in order for me to have something approved in regards to outfit smiley1.gif

wow dude! that is amazing! yeah, you got the look down pat. a few notes though, make the hat thinner at the top, but not much, and give the top edge the kind of ragged look the cloak/coat has, which, btw, is awesome! is the effect in front part of the coat or some f/x form his power? Or is it just flames? I think I like that look for his power. Is his left leg concealed?

      1. I sent you a request. It says it's me. I don't have a laptop, so using it while gaming would have to be through Skype mobile on my end, but I don't think that makes a difference. I guess we'll find out.

When I saw today's poll I thought for a second it was going to be about the Amalgam universe. That brings me to this:

      Ideas for polls:
Best character from Amalgam (Super-Soldier, Dark Claw, Dr. Strangefate, Iron Lantern, Amazon, Other - Please specify)

      Best alternate version
(Superman: Earth 1, Red Son, Kingdom Come, Crime Syndicate, etc)
(Batman: Earth 1, Gotham by Gaslight, DKR, etc)

Best Legacy identity (You've already done GL)
(Robin: Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Tim Drake, Carrie, Stephanie Brown, Damian Wayne)
(Batgirl: Barbara Gordon, Cassandra Cain, Stephanie Brown)
(Batman: Bruce Wayne, Jean-Paul Whatshisface, Dick Grayson, Terry McGinnis)
(Thor: Donald Blake, Eric Masterson, Beta Ray Bill, Dargo)

      Favourite Herald of Galactus
(Air Walker, Silver Surfer, Nova, Morg, Terrax the Tamer, Firelord, Red Shift, Johnny Storm the Invisible Boy)

I've been into comic-related stuff since I was a kid, and read a bunch of random issues as a kid, but never enough to keep up with any sort of continuity. It's only been in the last few years that I've been able to read a whole lot more and keep up. Tim's been my favorite of the Robins for a while, but I love what they've done with him since Bruce's "death" and return. Red Robin has been great, from what I've read (up through issue 12 of the solo series, and what I've read of him in Grayson-Batman stories).

Though I hear he's yet another casualty of DC's recent reboot and loses some of his badassery.

He had a broken neck, clip of pistol rounds to the brain, and took a crash into a jungle world... he hated Raheem before and all the guy did was not die! Now he's going to be super pissed... and HALF JONESY!

damn fine way to end it good sir, I heartily enjoyed it!!

Tarsus is as dead as they get. And no clone or robot. I will miss the ole Terminator.

      Orlando with Puma.

No dates yet but a touch after Dark Knight Rises comes out. It goes without saying you and yours are invited to join. To my knowledge Tack, Baraxis, and Geekers are either coming for sure or trying to make it work with their schedules. And it's likely spreading.

You know how it is. Right now it's mostly in the air. But the Family gathering around the last Nolan Bat-movie... It's a simple but great idea.

'm passionate about the bard and happen to love the monologue. it does tie directly to faulkner's thoughts on the topic (though the sentence originally was 'life is a tale told by an idiot, full of..."

I just called you on it because I knew you could take a little ribbing.

Mackers is one of my favorites. Yeah being a theatre guy I've got my superstitions. but you should check out Patrick Stewart playing him. Not to mention come up to NY sometime. I want to direct it and aim to act in it a few times before I die :-)

In response to making Jesus the villain.

I actually did do something along those lines in my current WIP titled Teapot.
In the end the villain is reveled to be the sacrificial figure a guardian who chose a path of evil in order to attract a conflicting power capable of saving his world.

felt a bit too much like BushWhacked to me....still, good descriptions and setting control!

Dac said something similar. He also mentioned Event Horizon.

The intent was to do a Lovecraft style story. The ship was actually more in line with how much of Lovecraft's stories tended to involve ships (even if just secondarily like if it was a port town). In particular I was looking at Call of Cthulu's fishermen tale. The one about the group that came across the sunken city and went nutso.

I'll also throw in there's a bit of Alien in there. The whole distress call not being a distress call and how the Thing With No Name's mere presence terraforms the ship.

Also this chapter exists entirely because of you. Your demand to have Steven show up again made me think about "Are there any Mentactulus stories I want to tell this season?" And I had room for a one shot. So I wrote one with the idea that I wanted to do a Raheem Cosmic Horror story. And this is the result.

You cool behcaz yaw maek tehm cakes an' fourm mod an' point gunz aht peepull saeeing "ah liek peenut butta an' jelleh sand-witches." (Smarty pants translation: You cool because you make them cakes and forum mod and point guns at people's faces saying, "I like peanut butter and jelly sandwiches" But cool picture...I feel scared to wisecrack because I'm scared you might shoot me with that gun. But look at the bright side you get to clean up all the after-blood from your comments page. So yeah cool picture. Do you only read Wildstorm or do you read others like DC (I know Wildstorm is part of DC) and Marvel?

How about: "just because I know what a dilithium recrystalitation chamber is, does that make me a nerd?"

      As obscure as it gets.

I'm trying to edit a script the director of next year's show has sent me, and at one point there's a bit that says "insert obscure Star Trek reference here". The full line of dialogue is "Just because I know (insert), does that make me a nerd?" Are you able to think of something I could toss in there?

(And I didn't write that line...seems a bit blunt for me)
