    • My Hope For RWBY Volume 4 (#JusticeForYang)

Well everyone, RWBY Volume 4 is here! Now that it's begun, I feel like I should talk about something that I've been worried about for months now: Yang's character development, or in this case, lack thereof.

As we know, Yang got shafted the first three volumes. As a main character in the show (HER NAME IS IN THE TITLE!), you'd expect her to get a high level of character development, right? Well, that never happened. Instead, we had arcs focused on Jaune, Pyrrha, Blake, Weiss, and Ruby. But what about our Sun Goddess? Nothing.

Oh sure, we get a two minute speech in Volume 2. Okay, well that did give us more character development than all of Volume 1 combined, but it still wasn't much. Think about how much Blake or Jaune has got. Then look at Yang. Her name is in the title of the show, yet sidekicks like Jaune gets arcs for themselves. It made me feel like Miles and Kerry just didn't care enough about Yang or consider her important enough to deserve character development. Then we got the Volume 2 after credits scene.

That had me SO excited that she would finally get something! HER MOTHER?!?! That's got to be important and that'll certainly be an arc, right?! RIGHT?!? Nope. Volume 3 comes around, we get a thirty second back and forth between her and Qrow (my mom showed up. Yep, thought so. K. Bye), and THAT WAS IT! A complete waste of potential on EVERY front. What could have been a defining moment for Yang was squandered because they don't care as much about our busty blonde as they do characters like Jaune or Pyrrha. It's not like Yang is part of the main team or anything!

Sigh, sorry, getting off track. So, for the first three volumes, every chance Yang had to get character development was squandered, and we never saw her really grow. Now, Volume 4 is around, and it's the perfect time for a Yang arc! To see this incredibly bombastic and charismatic person suddenly brought back to Earth by this crushing blow from Adam sets up SO many good conversations we could see play out, both with herself internally and with Taiyang. Hell, even Raven could show up! So much potential to see our Yang get the character development she so desperately needs and undoubtedly deserves.

However, I can feel my hopes draining with every second at this point. After looking at the Volume 4 intro, and the fact that Yang has the least screen time of ALL the protagonists of Team RWBY (everyone gets a fight sequence and Yang is ignored) is troublesome. Could Miles and Kerry screw the pooch again and fail to give Yang the development she is set up for? Possibly, as it's not like we haven't seen potential for Yang's character growth ruined before. I mean, at this point, we've gotten more characterization about Yang from RWBY Chibi than we have from the actual show. And that's not even canon!

What I'm trying to say is, Miles and Kerry, please don't squander this opportunity. Yang is so perfectly set up for an arc that looks deep into her psyche and her personality! We could finally see Yang grow as a person, both mentally and physically, if done right! Please don't ruin that opportunity by either ignoring it entirely or making it thirty second scenes where you constantly cut away from her. Yang is a part of Team RWBY, too. Yet she's been ignored for the last three volumes, pushed aside for the side characters like Jaune and Penny. I hope this volume changes that.

    • 343, this is a plea from the custom game and forge communities

For those who wish to not leave the site:

The past few weeks have been incredibly turbulent for competitive players and non-competitive players alike. We were all hyped for Halo 5. Many thought they were done with you after the MCC disaster of 2014, but you brought us back. You promised something for everyone. You promised a return to form. And in some ways, you were absolutely right.

The gameplay is incredibly fun, and IS a return to form. No more loadouts, no more armor abilities, you brought Halo's game play back and threw the Halo 4/COD in Space Game play out the window. And for that I commemorate you on.

There is something, though, that has disappointed and will continue to disappoint Halo fans: the custom games and forge. Now before I continue let me say I understand your pushing of Forge to December. I'd rather you release a fixed, more polished Forge a month late than a buggy, half of the features missing forge. But it seems like you've already released a buggy, half of the features missing section in Halo 5; I'm of course referring to the abysmal custom game options. If you would, let me list out the Halo 3 Basic Game types:

      • Slayer
      • Oddball
      • King of the Hill
      • Capture the Flag
      • Assault
      • Territories
      • Juggernaut
      • Infection
      • VIP

Now, if you'll allow me to continue, let me show you Halo Reach's starting game types:

      • Slayer
      • Assault
      • Invasion
      • Infection
      • Capture the Flag
      • Stockpile
      • Headhunter
      • Rally
      • Juggernaut
      • King of the Hill
      • Oddball
      • Territories
      • DLC Insane (Chess, Grifball, etc)

Now let us look at your first game, Halo 4's game types:

      • Slayer
      • Regicide
      • Oddball
      • Capture the Flag
      • Flood
      • Dominion
      • Extraction
      • King of the Hill
      • Grifball
      • DLC Ricochet

Okay, much less than Reach, but still not terrible. I'm not going to count Master Chief Collection because that has 4 games of game modes that would only make H5 look worse. Speaking of that, now let us look at Halo 5's game modes:

      • Slayer (+FFA Slayer, Shotty Snipers, and SWAT)
      • Capture the Flag (+Neutral Flag)
      • Strongholds
      • Breakout

Wow, that is...wow....343, I hope you have plans to expand upon this. Because honestly, this hurt me harder than any of your previous blunders did. More than the 50 file map limit of MCC, more than the lack of File Browser in MCC, etc. This hurt the most. And the custom game editing options are even worse. Here are some of the common custom game options missing from H5:

      • Changing map weapon spawns
      • Bonus points
      • No random weapons option
      • No ability to eliminate secondary weapons
      • No removable vehicle spawning
      • No forced colors
      • No visible effects application
      • No weapon damage modification
      • No respawn traits
      • No leader traits
      • No unlimited ammo or bottomless clip
      • No editable custom game descriptions

343, I, as a forger and custom game creator, am fairly insulted, and I can assure you the casual community is as well. We get it, you wanted to cater to the HARDCORE players, but that doesn't mean you remove things for the casual audience. And these weren't removed for technical reasons, these were removed because you tried to rush the game for the hardcore audience and didn't care about the rest of us. You didn't care about the custom game community. You thought, "oh well, they'll just play matchmaking anyway. No one cares about them!" Well look where you are now, losing hundreds of players an hour to Call of Duty, because the game has no unique game modes. Nothing fun or exciting, just hardcore game modes. If by Christmas you haven't included the previously mentioned custom game options, some sort of social playlist, and the following game modes, Halo 5 will become desolate:

      • Oddball
      • King of the Hill
      • Infection (not Flood, infection)
      • Assault
      • Juggernaut/Regicide
      • BTB ANYTHING (Slayer, CTF, etc)

343, you released Halo 5 with barebones options for the custom game players and started the game off without Forge. I know you think the competitive community is the important one, but think of it this way, who stays around when the matchmaking dies down? The custom game players and forgers. Well, you're losing them by eliminating everything they enjoyed. Hope you see this and fix it as soon as possible. Or else Halo 5 will be more of a husk than it already is. You made the game play fun, now let us have fun with it instead of be competitive with it.

    • RIP Monty Oum

Monty, well Monty can't be described in words. In fact, he rarely said many words. But he didn't need to, Monty let his actions speak for him: whether it was coming out on the Internet Box panel in a rice patty hat, to ripping keys off his keyboard, to making his dream of RWBY a reality. Monty, you were an inspiration to anyone who had a dream.

I only spoke with Monty once, when he did his AMA on Reddit, I messaged him thanking him for all the work he's done. He said thanks. Typical Monty, so few words, so much emotion. I remember first seeing him walk past me in the Internet Box panel carrying Chinese food and wearing a rice patty hat, it was spectacular.

Monty, you were amazing, and you will be missed so incredibly much. But I know you're in a better place now. I know I can say that from me and all of the RT Family, we love you Monty! Rest in Peace!
