      Then there were six...

I'm really enjoying Ten Little Roosters, but with the whole Red Herring clarification now I'm really confused as to what to class as too obvious...

The first episode my first thought was Gavin, then I convinced myself it was Chris, obviously a mistake. I thought Chris for the second episode was even more obvious, but it was pre red-herring journal so went with it anyway. Now I don't know what to think...

Also, my initial choices for killer and survivor are most certainly wrong (both are still alive, I'm just pretty sure they won't be by the end), but I'm fairly sure my second choice for each are on course.

Anyway, bit of a ramble, but I guess that's just where my brain is right now

(Not sure why I didn't tell this story before, probably some weird dream about it ending up on the podcast or something)

So a couple of years ago, I was interviewing for my first job out of university. The interview ended up being split over two days, with me having breakfast with the team on the second day. After breakfast, we had another round of questions and one of the last questions they asked me was "Who's Burnie".

Obviously, I figured straight away it was the magnificent Burnie Burns that they were talking about, but why was this relevant? Then I wincingly remembered. I had the domain at the time and had it linked to from various places. However, I was in the process of modifying it and as a placeholder while I worked out what to do with it, I had decided to reference the Burnie vs Tasmania story and all there was on the site was the phrase "Burnie sucks cock" in big black letters.

So there I was in this interview, aware that they'd seen this on a site that they knew I was behind. I grinned and proceeded to tell them the whole Burnie vs Tasmania story and that I was referencing that in my placeholder text. They then offered me the job. smiley0.gif

So the moral of the story, don't worry too much about what you post on the internet, just as long as you can justify it

      MCM award ceremony

So, MCM was this weekend and it was pretty fantastic. I got round to see plenty of games and other bits and bobs on friday and slowly started realising just how many other RvBUK people had shown up. I popped by the Rooster Teeth stall as well to buy all of the merch I've been meaning to get for ages and say hi to Miles and Kerry (and give them jaffa cakes). As great as Friday was, saturday was Miles (hehe) better. With the Rooster Teeth panel, trying to break out a crate (badly), RWBY photo shoot and hanging out in the pub, all topped off with Miles and Kerry showing up (and getting to beat them both in Smash Bros.), well, I gotta say it was all pretty fantastic.

But you're not here to hear me waffle away about that, so with further adieu, let's proceed to this year's MCM awards!

      Best Quote
"What the fuck is a jar-fa cake?" - Miles, twice, on separate occasions

      Best insult
"I am pressing triangle you queefnugget!" - , playing dragonball Z

      Worst decision
Choosing jigglypuff for the next match after beating Miles at Smash Bros.

      Worst nickname:
      Saggy - thanks @IeuanHughRit...

      Best organiser:
The one and only @jamilio, you did a great job!

      Biggest pounce hug:
      @CaptainNai , who else?

      Best beard:
@Kinross07 none of the rest of you saw it

      Best Cosplay:
There was a pretty fricking sweet Ganondorf, although I didn't take a picture. Jaune in a dress also gets bonus points though

      Best forgery
CJ, for copying the stamps so people could get drinks from the bar

      Tell me all your secrets
      Do it

Hopefully see you all again next year! (or sooner!)

      RvBUK 2014

      Short version:

I was at RvBUk this weekend with just a small chunk of our awesome community. Fun times were had, lots of games were played, I now realise how important it is to renew my efforts to make it to RTX next year. The UK event has grown significantly over the past few years and I'd highly recommend it! #DanSucks #TeamNeil2k14

      Long version:

It was a typical British summer as my train pulled into Leicester, with the sky a murky grew and one of those towers that shows the temperature registering a shrugable 19 degrees. I made my way to the Phoenix Centre where I was to find this year's RvB UK event. Warmly greeted by Jason (@jamilio) I found myself back at the event that I had only attended 4 years prior. You see, four years ago, in a small pub on the outskirts of Leicester, RvB UK (the second one) was just 10 (or so) of us sitting in the back of a pub watching RvB and playing video games. My fondest memory of this must be two teams of 4 trying to get through splosion man multiplayer faster than the other, resulting in obvious chaos. The event I was coming to today had grown leaps and bounds since then though!

After a couple of quick games to warm up, we then proceeded to the screenings, where we learned the grim tale of Death Knight love story (not the film itself, the grim tale of watching it) and, it being an RvB event and all, the entirety of season 9 (some things make more sense again now).

The afternoon was reserved for the behemoths of gaming to participate in their battles of epicness. It was, however, replaced with playing mario kart for a bit. My confidence was high coming into it, but turns out after playing Mario Kart 8, playing the Wii version feels a little rusty. I scraped through to the final with two second places (from third going into the last race both times), then came second in the final as well. I actually felt like I'd lost in a fair fight to Neil in the last race, unlike Dan (@The_Hybrid) who'd been hilariously screwed over at the last moment in every race (the video will be up somewhere eventually, I'm sure).

Grifball went less well, with our rag-tag team only winning our opening game (although I will take pride in getting the opening goal within 10 seconds and the other team not even realising it had happened). Finally, in worms, the last tournament of the day Nai (@CaptainNai) found out when someone offers you a truce, you take it, as after declining my offer, I promptly wiped three of his worms out in one go (before getting swiftly knocked out myself).

I would just like to take this point to say I would've liked to have stayed out with everyone in the evenings a little longer than I did (leaving just after midnight on both nights). It's a shame that I couldn't, but that's just me being paranoid abut the scenarios that could unfold when you have 2 room keys between three people. Definitely something I would aim to resolve next time!

Saturday was filled with more gaming, although primarily of the board/card type, with some Cards aganst Humanity and Munckin (which involved me further torturing Nai). Thos games took a while, so the only thing I can remember from the day was the Lord Puggington games panel. As a fellow indie developer, but who's mostly worked alone, it was interesting to hear their perspective and I look forward to following more of their stuff soon! For the evening, we retired to the cookie jar for a night of drinking and the blue, a pretty good combination really!

With the gaming all packed up, sunday opened with the prospect of a much quieter day. After recording a couple of AHWU shout outs (not entirely sure how well they'll turn out...) we headed off to lazer tag to wrap up the event. Turns out I do my best when I stand in plain sight shooting everything that moves (who knew?), even if it meant I instead got shot by the slackers staying in the lobby manning the remote controlled turret.

Sadly, with our games played, it was my time to head off. I bid my goodbyes, hugging anyone who was keen (perhaps less pleasant than normal given everyone was now all hot and sweaty) and heading back to the station to return from when I came. All in all a fantastic time and I will certainly be back next year!

Shout out to everyone else I can remember/have been able to find!
      @Eoin @Kleelasseter @TheLadderMan @palmeirl @TopherBeadle @Hightower

I'll have to try and use this as a springboard to get back into the community as well. Obviously it's been too long since I made this for any of the community hunter gang to accept me as their own smiley2.gif

      Games and Stuff

So, due to going to see the blood and ice cream trilogy (World's End, woOoo!), I'm going to be missing out on the RvB: UK game night this Thursday yet again.

So! In lieu of this, I'd like to arrange a little get together for anyone who'd like to play some games tomorrow evening (Wednesday). I'll be around to organise some games from 7pm tomorrow evening, so if you're interested, leave a message here and send me a friend request on Xbox Live (Gingerlink).

As for what we'll play, it kind of depends on what people want. My first choice would be GTA IV, but I'd also be up for Halo, Borderlands 2 (not actually started it myself yet) or any other suggestions (assuming I own it). Heck, if someone wants a throwdown on Rockstar table tennis, then I'm game smiley1.gif

I wanted to write something about my karting today (which went surprisingly well, thank you very much), but now I feel guilty about not having written anything about the RvB UK game night, so here goes!

Good times had by all I believe on Minecraft! Thanks to @CaptainNai for organising it and @oscark @Stuartwhel @Tudor and @LeeFosterr for being there. I apologise for going all quiet after the forest fire incident, I got lost down a cave and didn't really find anything useful in there for ages. Hopefully next time I'll actually work out something interesting to do :)

Then Halo 4 funs were had, pretty much just random games with @CaptainNai @jamilio Hammy and George_V, but a lot of fun. I really enjoy these games and it makes playing halo really good fun again. I've kind of gotten out of playing it without any regular people to play with (although not much has changed, most of my halo 3 times was spent in the Lone Wolves playlist, which I actually got pretty good at) but I'll be jumping right online when we have these halo nights.(or if anyone else wants to play some games online! smiley0.gif )

So less lurking and more posting! Primarily about games!

I picked up the beta for scrolls yesterday (the latest game from Mojang, creators of minecraft). It's a deck building strategy game, which obviously makes it quite different from Minecraft. Aside from a few beta bugs, I had a lot of fun with it and would recommend it if you're at all into strategy games!

To be honest, the main reason I think I got hooked was I got obliterated so completely in my first few games I was busy trying to work out how. Eventually, at 2am, I managed to win an online game against someone by the skin of my teeth, which was very satisfying, although probably doesn't quite make up for how tired I felt this morning...

So I've been called out for not posting much any more, which is actually kind of nice in a weird way, but I guess it means I should start posting again. It might take a while before I find thing I can happily join in on, so it might have to be journal posts for a little bit.

On that note, I've found an indie game I would like to share with you (not one of my own). It's free to download and worth downloading because the writing is fantastic. If I say much more, it will ruin it, so have at ye!
      Save the Date

I think 30-45 mins is a good time estimate for how long it should take. This is the kind of game I'd quite like to chat to people about, so leave some messages in the comments

if there's someone else i should send this message to or somewhere else i should put messages like this please let me know but here:
during first person let's plays (halo, minecraft, the ship) it'd be nice if there was a translucent color coded overlay around the edge of the screen so you know immediately who's screen you're looking at without having to glance at the top left corner every few seconds. For example, Geoff always picks orange armor so have a see through orange border around the screen and jack picks green armor so have a green border when you switch to jack's screen.
