Introducing some new characters, after a little bit more flashback to the ship's first encounter with the drones after their civilisation is all but gone...

      Plexit 8: Settling In

I've been creating this comic for a while and I'm loving getting into a regular routine with it. Knowing what people think of it makes it all the better for me - I do like my external validation ;-)

But there's more. I release special extras on the Facebook page and even more extras on my patrons-only feed on Patreon. I'm also in the process of creating some merchandise that you can get discounted if you're a patron :-)

Meanwhile, I'm really looking forward to more RvB. I haven't stopped to mention it here in a while, but when I realised that season 15 continues the story, I was ecstatic. I can't wait to see what's going on here - and hopefully get some flashbacks to tell us what happened after season 13 cut out  grin  green_heart

(Edit: Emojis really need to include a teal heart. Seriously.)

Six whole episodes already! Yep! Aaaaand there's an extra next week that I'm bursting to share... and I'm already putting the finishing details into the first six panels of episode 7!

      Episode 6: Earl Grey, Hot

A homeless girl I talk to in Oxford has just seen all her stuff taken away and binned by the council. Tent, bedding, dog toys... she has a rucksack, a blanket and a change of clothes, full stop.
If you're in the area and you have anything that might be of use to her, please get in touch - I'll hunt through my own stuff tonight.

Someone high up in the council really hates homeless people, as evidenced by the prior occasions where public pressure has been needed to stop them criminalising homelessness - and they're closing the (hugely insufficient as it is) shelters one by one.

      I'm so angry.

Sorry! I sort of forgot I was even on here. Somehow. I'd forget my own head if it weren't attached...

Funny story, actually... as I was getting off the bus this morning, I looked at the driver and went, "OMG, who's that guy?!" Then I realised that I actually didn't remember getting on the bus -.-

So, comics! Lots and lots of comics! I was absolutely buried in making all the geometry for these scenes...

Plexit 3: History continued - the computer finishes its story

There's a "next comic" link at the bottom, but here's what's waiting for you:

      Plexit 4: Are You In?

Plexit 5: Take Me With You

But wait, there's more! The Facebook page has exclusive extra images!

This Saturday will be episode 6... and we're now on a 2-week cycle. On the Saturdays between comics, I also try to include special extras that are published on the Facebook page ;-)

      Hi,

Sadly, I don't have any real personal experience with the S6 (I used one for about 30 seconds when adding one to my WiFi network - nothing more.)
I've rooted an S3 for software development purposes and that was a good, solid ohone. That said I have heard that there are issues with the USB port on some models wearing out and therefore not accepting a charge.
Personally, I can't justify the outlay to purchase such phones outright or on a contract, so no, sadly i can't help you here.

No, sorry, I don't know any decent software development companies that could do what you ask. I did work for a company like that once but sadly that company is no more.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

I thought you might enjoy this article.

The actual quality of Crack's articles can vary pretty widely, but anything David Wong writes is worth reading. It usually centers on thoughtful observations about society, relevant to whatever's in the news at the time, and whether society as a whole is reacting appropriately to the situation. (Spoiler: we never react appropriately to anything.)

The #2 point is exactly how the British Colonial aristocracy went about ending and preventing insurrection through the late 1600's and early to mid 1700's, by introducing policies and promoting social opinions which divided black slaves and white indentured servants. Up to that point, the groups identified with each other fairly easily, and were often very much aware that their leaders represented a common oppressor. Another part of this, which goes back even farther, is turning the lower and middle class whites against any and all Indians through, fear of war (ironically, typically achieved by provoking violence from one or both sides), while using their position of relative power to keep blacks and Indians physically--and therefore philosophically--separate from each other, while playing off of pre-existing political atmospheres to keep the Indians fighting each other, rather than them. The repercussions of all of this are still enormously prevalent in American culture, politics and socio-economic demographics. In contrast, the Feminist and Abolitionist movements of the early 1800's both achieved momentum and degrees of success because they were able to recognise right away that they needed to work together.

Eh, I'm surviving for now. Trying not to think too much about what those dirty blues are going to do when they get down to business. I posted that journal and went to play GalCiv2 for the rest of Friday, then I spent Saturday in Assassin's Creed 2, then met a friend who's visiting from Canada yesterday. I have a second interview for a pretty decent-looking job on Thursday, so here's hoping I get that... and I'm trying to start up a local co-operative shop to make available some of the things we have to travel into Swindon to buy right now - and cheaper than you'd get them out there, putting the profits into community projects to mitigate some of the damage this government will cause.

What do you think about the stuff going on in Greece? The media here isn't covering it much (except that the right-wing thinks it's the third worst thing ever to happen, after gay marriage moving toward national legalisation and Islam ever existing), because "OH NOES, COMYOONIZM!!!!11"

Also, do you know anything about the other Leftist fringe parties (like the Podemos Party in Spain) that are apparently gaining a lot of support in their respective countries?

I suspect that a lot of that development resulted from people simply following the US's examples, especially during the Cold War, when if you weren't super right-wing, pro-capitalism, then it must mean you were some kind of communist, and therefore, against freedom. Humans tend to polarise issues like that anyway, but American culture is particularly inclined toward it; asserting a centrist position on almost anything, political or not, tends to be an effective way of turning both sides against you and group you in with the other side. I get the feeling that a lot of people regard me as some sort of weird extremist because I have a tendency to act as Devil's advocate. A common example of this is where I defend Obama. I don't like him, and I didn't vote for him in either case (though, in retrospect, I'm glad he won out of the two choices available; What'shisname spent a few months early last year going on about how we should be putting troops in Ukraine to fight the pro-Russian separatists, which is probably the worst way would could have reacted short of actually nuking someone), but I live in a town where I think that about a third of people honestly believe that his only goal is to undermine America as much as he can. . . Like we're living in some kind of cartoon, where good and evil are absolutes, and everyone is one side or the other.

This leaves it to me, often, to point out just how bad things are and have been for at least the last couple of decades, and how he honestly hasn't done anything to make things worse overall, and he at least tried to fix out fucking ridiculous for-profit health care system in a way that both parties could see a benefit from.

Yeah, it seems like the EU is going to frell in a handbasket recently - but it's because they're all run by far-right austerity addicts that think every problem can be solved by cutting budgets and introducing "tough new laws" that make life harder for the commoner "because you need it." Then there's Putin being an asshole as ever and the whole world going, "well, if he's going to be an asshole, we'll just be assholes right back at him." Even Caboose would call them dumb at this stage.

      • jaxom_rahl

What little little filters through the media about Podemos does little more than to describe them as "fringe left-wing," though I can't remember seeing them mentioned more than once or twice until Greece's financial situation reemerged as a side story within the last month.

I don't have a lot of information on the whole thing, but the best conclusion I've been able to draw up till now is that Greece is still in the shit (I already knew that--I'd read a little about their persistent economic problems, particularly their 30%+ unemployment) and that rather than continuing to work with them to improve their situation, Angela Merkel and the other top EU leaders are just kind of being assholes, which really seems to defeat the purpose of having an international union. If this is correct, I can see why there would be substantial support in Greece for leaving the Euro. I seem to remember her being a source of obstruction during the early attempts to peacefully resolve the Ukraine dispute last year, too.

I know a few bits here and there, but I confess I'm not paying too much attention to the international scene at the moment as most people here are only getting what little the puppet show media gives them - which translates as "guize look how Greece's fail policies r fail lol." Trying to tell them differently would just be a derail that would serve to open me up to every half-ass criticism the papers throw at Syriza. Better to fight a whole separate battle.
I do know that Podemos has been making gains for a while - it was actually reading about their success over the summer that got me started on really moving this forward again. Though it's certainly an exaggeration to call either of them left-wing fringe parties. They're just left-wing parties, both of them quite moderate on the scale. Well, if you compare them to the cluster of Western main parties occupying the upper-right part of the upper-right quadrant on a 2D political scale, then it probably does seem slightly fringe... but that's just the classic conversational restriction. "If you want to control the population without their knowledge, restrict the acceptable viewpoints to a very narrow range and then encourage very lively debate within that range - they'll never notice." (Then along came the internet smiley0.gif )

What I have seen in Greece is that they're now starting to capitulate to the demands of the European Troika, because, since Greece lacks its own currency, they have the power to make life really tough for Greece - and they will, if they have to, so that they can turn round and say to everyone else, "see, we told you it wouldn't work!"

Interesting. I'm kind of torn on larger vs. smaller unions. Generally, the larger a state is, the more easily it corrupts, since more levels of government are needed to keep everything together. This is a legitimate point the American right-wing likes to wave around. It's also one of the major ways that they manage to attract people who aren't bigotedly religious, well off enough that they're ignorant to the needs of the lower classes, or just plain fucking crazy. They go on and on about devolving the federal government and granting states more right to choose. There is one major flaw in this, however; historically, state governments have used that freedom to institute blatantly discriminatory legislation. This isn't just limited to things like Jim Crow and anti-gay laws, either; back before there was a federal welfare program, most states had their own welfare of sorts, but a lot of them intentionally disallowed, alongside non-whites, unwed mothers.

This type of thing applies on a larger level, of course. The period of relative peace that we've enjoyed since the end of WWII would probably not have been possible without organisations like NATO and the UN being in place to help level the field. Turkey is currently locked out of the EU primarily over some human rights issues; their desire to join is probably the best chance that those issues will be resolved. I've come to the conclusion that the UN should play a larger role in global politics; with issues like ISIL, the Israel-Palastine situation and the Ukrainian Crisis, it gets hard to tell whether the people it actually effects are being represented in the media (except for when it's obvious that they're not), and politicians will always just push for either the thing that personally enriches them, or whatever they think will get the masses--and their votes--on their side, which means that their positions are intertwined with whatever the biased media outlets are putting out for the public. A shocking number of people here think that Israel's bombing of Gaza, including the strikes on UN schools turned refugee centers is entirely justified, because everyone on Fox, and most of the people who cover the story for other networks, basically just go on and scream, "Fuck yeah, Israel!" I don't think the US should intervene on anyone's side, unless it's to grant refugee status to the civilians who are being bombed, because this fucking Wold Police bullshit just isn't working out. I do, however, think that, given the circumstances of the situation, the bombing of Gaza does constitute some degree of genocide, and that the UN has both the authority and the responsibility to do something about it. When someone does try to represent both sides of the issue, Sean Hannity will, repeatedly, shout "if someone shot x rockets at your house, what would you do?" I know that if my defense grid and the actual quality of those rockets made them totally impotent, I wouldn't respond by killing 2000 civilians.

How does it feel to follow the train of thought of Jaxom for a couple of paragraphs?

I don't think Ireland is so much an issue - at the moment, things seem to be quite quiet there. But there are several areas of England that have a popular view of being a separate entity from the south-eastern classical England - those are now seeing campaigns to have their own devolved Parliaments.
To be honest, I can understand their annoyance - they all get maligned and ignored by different sections of the government (one government associate said something about allowing fracking "up in the desolate north" rather than in his green and pleasant land - that rightly pissed off a lot of northerners) and are rarely treated in the media as anything other than a novelty in parts foreign. That's probably the next big fight regardless - though several of the people I'm trying to encourage to stand for election (because they have talents I'd want to put in a cabinet position) are northerners and Midlands folk. I think that might go some way to a more representative government, when the folk in the back room making the decisions are from places other than London and Cambridge smiley8.gif
The other one's Cornwall - the Cornish have pretty much always seen themselves as separate, so this has fuelled their thing and there's a campaign for a devolved Cornish Assembly.
Really, though, I think we're in an age where we need to work together more, not split up into 30 separate states. When you look at the way the internet is bringing people together, creating international communities and political movements, breaking down those artificial divisions... in that light, the idea of creating new divisions seems absurd.

      • jaxom_rahl

I had this dark, pessimistic thought earlier. Keep in mind, this is all just based off of what I know about cultural and political climates in countries I've never been to.

Yesterday, I was hearing something on the radio about the Scottish independence vote, saying that it was pretty close, but that independence was definitely in the lead. Given history, I'm inclined to think that if the vote succeeds, it might spark a similar movement in Northern Ireland to leave the U.K. and join the Republic. I think that such a vote would fail, but in that case, there's a significant chance that a small handful of the very most hardcore, Republicans there might decide that the whole thing is just proof that they need the IRA back. Said group would then carry out some act of violence, and the government, in typical fashion, would respond by doing something incredibly stupid and inflammatory. In short, the whole thing might lead to a rapid resumption of the hostilities in Ireland.

As a Brit who follows politics, what are your thoughts on this?

In a nutshell... both sides are throwing about a lot of unsupported claims, often directly contrary to each other and sometimes even nonsensical. However, since the issue is whether it should split from the UK, the onus is on the SNP to prove that they can actually do this shit and not completely fuck up the country worse than those dirty blues could ever hope to do from down here.
So far, I see no evidence to support such an assertion. Which means, were I up there, I'd be voting no.

What do you mean you haven't got one?!

      I'm shocked, flabbergasted even.
It's such a nice looking game. If ripping spines out of peoples backs were pretty this game would be a butterfly.

Now I'm tempted to send you a copy (the shipping would probably be more then the actual game) I did own two copies at one point but I believe I gave it to my uncle when he got his Xbox...

You've no previous experience that could possibly prepare you for how truly easy it is to decimate these little kids.

I have yet to meet a predator who utilizes the xenomorph visor.
So once I've killed the lights within a level the game degenerates into a string of continuous assassinations.

YouTube. You might be a little way behind, but you get to see up to ep 5 of Recreation in decent resolution. My laptop also won't play the site's videos at all. It's mainly 'cos they use silly fringe companies like Blip.tv instead of well-known and compatible companies like YouTube.

      • Biolith

Issue is my computer doesn't like running the videos at any sort of framerate that would make it so I could watch it. Instead, I get stills for a couple of seconds before it changes.

So, I just got fed up with it and said 'fuck this shit, I'm watching something else'.

I didn't unwatch, I just had other things to do than post on forums. I am not offended by any of this, and actually took it all with a grain of salt. My only real concern is that people are directing negativity toward the other 'team' for any conceivable reason that comes up.
